I posted a lot of these reviews earlier in the other thread...

The Digital Foundry review is my favourite, as it illustrates the key point: the RTX 3080 isn't for 2000-series owners (although it will provide sizeable gains), it's for 1000-series users -- they may see more than twice the speed. You certainly want it if you intend to play games at 4K.

Also, I got a kick out of DF noting "this is not a joke" when the 3080's frame rates in Doom Eternal ranged well into the hundreds in low-demand scenes. That's the kind of performance I wouldn't expect until years after the game arrived.

I missed the part that explained why they used an Non PCIe 4 Intel CPU to bench the card? Again GN just trying to drag everything into some even playing field.

I did not like the review.

They should have used pcie 4.0 because they otherwise are not benching the cards actual design features. I dont care about fairness to most people out there. Give us the raw uncut full featured performance. A Ryzen 3800x is more than enough CPU and wont bind it all.

As far as the card, im kind of but not wholly impressed. The 4k performance is not super impressive. I suppose I am more impressed with the minimums and nth% lows than I am anything else.

Just waiting on the 3090 review now.

Im biasing my opinion based on my previous 2080ti which turns out is still a super powerful card and the hype and marketing really wqs just hype more than reality.

Non-issue at this time.

Other reviewers used AMD cards with PCI-E 4.0 and it didn't look like it made any difference to me.

GN is planning to do a lot of followup content on this card, including PCI-E 3 vs PCI-E 4. Also, if you don't care about fairness then you don't care about reviews. You cannot have a ton of wildly different variables and still create valid results. If you want to know why GN picked Intel for this test, they explain it in their video talking about their new GPU test methodology. The short version is that the Intel platform provides better game performance across the board.

I've come to the conclusion if you run 4K, get the 3080. I run 4K, going to get the 3080.

The 3080 numbers from these reviews are good (great for people with 10-series or lower cards), but I wonder how much better the 3090 is going to be. Seeing just how far off Nvidia's "up to" claims were in a lot of cases makes me curious if the 3090 will even be a worthwhile upgrade over my 2080 ti, especially as I don't have a 4K display.

Nice card, nice price, you're getting what you paid for. 2080 Ti purchasers should be legitimately pissed. However, two sobering observations...Quake 2 RTX at 30fps.....I know but still......and finally this....at $1400, what is that 3090 going to deliver to justify its cost. That is where my head is at right now..........^^^^^ or this.

TechPowerUp did a surprising thing for them, and launched Ampere review with an AMD vs Intel CPU comparison. They included every game from their normal GPU review, to get a baseline of the difference, AS WELL AS TURNING ON PCIE4 vs 3.0!

Intel has a 10% performance advantage over AMD.

As everyone expected x16 pcie 4.o is still overkill :D it adds 1% of the performance improvement from going Intel.

Zen 3 can' t get here soon-enough!

Also, they found almost 70% performance improvement over the RTX 2080 at 4k, so the earlier NVIDIA-directed tests were believable (if obviously focused-on RTX titles).

Meh. Not pissed, not even annoyed. I've had this card since Feb 2019. Its more than paid for itself. I'm not going to get salty about people being able to get better performance, at a lower price, two years after the release of a previous generation card.

The 30 series launch is the definition of...meh, OK. The main thing that makes it good is the terrible pricing of the 20 series. That power draw, though, yikes.

I'd care if I played at 1080p. ~ 6% at 1440, ~1% difference at 4k. On a 9700k, waiting to see what Zen3 does.

I won't buy another 14nm+++ CPU.

Was going to do a full rebuild with Zen3 , 3090 and a new custom loop. I'm actually tempted to put a waterblock on my 2080Ti FTW3 and ride this one out.

Yeah, it doesn't matter if you never expect to be CPU-limited. But for those who can only read benchmark scores, Zen 3 would settle that score for certain.

A mere 2-7%, actually.

Saw a bunch of reviews today, I think Gamernexus nailed it. They are producing some high quality content these days.

The 3080 isn't for 4k gaming. It doesn't have enough VRAM.

Next generation games will need significantly more RAM. The 3080 is DOA. Already obsolete. More snake oil from the green team.

They knew that it was a crippling problem with the part, so they told all the shills to talk up how much VRAM doesn't matter. There's a reason why every single fucking review had a little section blocked off for TRUST US THIS CARD HAS ENOUGH VRAM REALLY YOU CAN DEFINITELY TRUST US.

Na, not at all. Got two still here in the casa and have been using them for years. Can still easily sell them for $500. So if I bought a "$700" 3080, a $200 expense for moving to next gen. So cost me $450 a year for the usage that was awesome....besides all the Space Invader cards I got at launch.

Cool, don't feel bad at all about going with and keeping my 2080 Ti. 3080 is ~20-30% better. Wasn't expecting it to be any more than that anyway.
