Announcement for upcoming announcement

Wow that is pathetic, wtf are they even thinking. They could have everything they need to do a launch presentation like Kyle suggested the day before ampere went on sale and it would have made a huge statement even if they didn't persuade everyone. Now they are expecting people to wait over a month instead of knee jerk buying an ampere card if they come across one.

Announcement for end of October, lol AMD. Late and probably won’t bring anything new to the table. 3080 performance for $50-100 less?

So the Zen 3 announcements shows 2 CCX and 1 I/O on the Zen 3 chip. Does that mean it's a max of 8 cores? (4 for each?) - giving the 10900k a leg up?

I honestly don't get this. Let's say that they announce on the 28th, and they offer 3080 raster and RT performance for 50-100 less. It's pointless because it's two months after Ampere??

Since it's almost impossible to get launches right on top of each other, how close to they have to be before it's "why bother. Lol"

It’s stupid. If they rush it then same people be saying they are going to rush it and have driver issues. You can’t win lol. And it’s not even 2 months from 3080. I doubt nvidia is going to have great supply for first few months.

Zen3 has 8 cores per CCX... so 10900k will not have a leg up, and it's replacement is supposedely only getting 8 cores, so does that make it a leg down? Unlike Intel, AMD is not likely to start reducing core counts. IF the 3100 vs 3300x comparison is anything to go by (1 ccx vs 2 ccx setup), then we will see a performance advantage in all CPU's that switch to a single CCX configuration with no change in clocks or architecture improvements. It will be interesting to see how they decide to segment the market and utilize partial CCX's.

They are thinking more than you are. Nvidia has a paper launch their cards will not be in consumer hands for another 7 to 8 weeks. That gices AMD a chance to produce a large channel of product, improve their drivers, and do last minute tweaks before production to make sure therir skus are competitive to Nvidia. So who is stupid you, Nvidia , or AMD???

Tell more about all this paper launch info you have.

I'd actually be very surprised if the 3090 is anything but vaporware outside of the first 3 minutes it goes on sale. Maybe not Cascade Lake style vaporware, but close.

So should I wait for RDNA3 , just asking for a friend?

I'm waiting for big navi no matter what. Have not appreciated how nvidia has conducted business. And I want AMD to be able to compete again. And the only way to do that is to give them my money. So I'm waiting for big navi and will be buying the next gen. And I'm not an amd gpu fanboy. I currently have a 1080.

Well. Looks lot is going to be announced. I suspect this since amd is not pushing RDNA at the end of zen 3 event and giving it dedicated event probably shows some confidence.

Now that we are seeing 3080 average around 30% better than 2080 ti. Amd themselves right now don’t know how it compares because all game benches aren’t out yet but amd did guess where ampere would land so I don’t think they are surprise. Now in ray tracing nvidia will likely be faster that’s my guess.

Why would you be very surprised? Have I missed some kind of announcement about shortages or some legit articles indicating that supplies will be strained?
I'd like to know more actually.

It's okay. You aren't the market segment.

TLDR - Samsung yields aren't where they expected. Might take some time to catch up to demand.

Hopefully not true. I heard elsewhere the 3090 would be in tight supply but the 3080 would be much more available. Might not be the case...

Lots of rumors like that. Easy rumor to create, and have appear true, because hot products are always in short supply.

Buzz behind this product is VERY high, so first wave is guaranteed to sell out fast. There is only so much stockpiling they can do.

Really depends on how accurate the "industry source" is I guess. It's a little more substantial than a rumor but hard to evaluate without knowing the source.

"But if I can't get a card day-one, itz a paper launch" = wailing babies in restaurant

The main problem is this perception by some that global GPU computing demand and prices would stay the same as the past 5-15 years. But it's not just fickle gamers as only market for these cards anymore.

The reality is AMD will also be a "PaPeR LaUncH" even if they have a million cards on retail shelves day-one - they'll be scooped up and sold out. This is the market reality. "But shouldn't Covid mean less people buying" --- no, it's the opposite. Forget what you think you know.

If all of the info in that video is true then we are in for an interesting fall. What worried me from that video is that the ray tracing performance of RDNA2 might be inferior to Turing depending on which source of his is correct. The better ray tracing performance of Ampere will most definitely sway me towards Nvidia once again.

Yar, interesting video. I'm not overly familiar with this guy, but apparently he had a good track record? Either way, it's making it easier to at least wait to see what AMD offers before springing for a RTX 3080 (or TI version, if true).

I keep going back and forth on whether I want to wait or jump into a 3080 or even 3090. The smart thing to do is wait but when it comes to your hobbies that you are passionate about you don't always make the smarter decision 🤣

Most people buy what looks good and tests good for their hobby and then evaluates how it performs when something else comes out. If that means spending twice.......oh well.

How likely is that anyone would be disappointed enough in a 3080+ to feel the need to upgrade again that soon.

Ampere looks great, and it appear buyers will be creating a large demand for them, you could try to buy one, and still might find yourself watching the AMD event with no Ampere in hand.

No real choice for me. Since I am interested in 3060 class at best, and don't even have the PC to put it in yet. I only have a PSU for my next build.

Let's be honest. You are a mid to low-end market purchaser. I understand your stance, but some of us are high-end or bust.

You and I are separate market segments.

My experience is, he consolidates all the rumors, checks for consistency, and vets them out.
So its basically rumor but still a pretty good guesstimate. Not like tweaktown or wccftech.

So buy a 3090 and be done. Do you really think AMD will challenge the 3090?

I have to see for myself whether or not a 3090 is worth the cost. I suspect for my taste it will be but I want to try them both.

AMD can only challenge the 3090 if they subsidize their offering with Ryzen profits.

If they sell it for the same price as the 3090, or less, but are actually building really beefy chips that cost literally $1000+ to make per chip, they might be able to produce something technically better than the 3090.

The issue is that it'll have to be a paper launch. I'm talking enterprise level tech, sold at consumer prices, with each sale a monetary loss for AMD, but a huge bonus to their ability to smash through markets. If they make even just a few thousand of them, it might be enough to Kill Nvidia.

The chance that they do this is incredibly high, isn't it? =p

AMD isn't going to challenge the 3090.

Confirmed: RTX3080 to disrupt 4k gaming, supports 8k gaming!

oh boy!

Confirmed by reviewer benchmarks too! (i.e. not by a misleading forum thread more than 7 months old)
