The great video card dump of 2020 has begun!!!

Buy a new EVGA card register when you get it then sign up for the stepup program. You will be tied to the difference in price from your card a an XCBlack version of whatever you want to stepup to but you wont lose any money or playing time.
Thanks for this. Just to clarify, if I were to spring for a 2070 Super, it doesnt lock me into the x70 lineup, does it? I would be able be able to step up to the 3080? That pretty much solves the problem right there. Its not a problem of the price tag, I've known I was upgrading this generation since I went vega in early 2018. Its the availablity concern combined with no longer having a card to wait with.

Edit- eclypse, Im well past my OC days - as long as its a stable card with decent temps at stock clocks, I would be happy. I upgraded to x570 in anticipation of Zen 3 - once I get this GPU knocked out, the only thing left in the build is whatever the newest 8c/16t 300 dollar sku will be.

Starting to see a few somewhat enticing deals on 2080 supers today. An MSI ventus sold for $400 locally on CL. Watched an EVGA gaming black go for winning bid of $420 on fee bay. Would be a big step up from my RX 480 for sure. Roughly 130%?

You can upgrade to any EVGA card you please within 90 days. You aren’t locked into any series or lineup. Make sure you buy from them directly or an authorized retailer though or else you aren’t eligible to step up.

My 5700xt was a huge step up from my 480x. The 480x is for 1080@144, the 5700xt is 1440@144. The 2080ti will do 4K pretty well. If you want numbers..

Performance at 1080
480x - 38%
5700xt - 74%
2080ti - 100%

Did you not see the live Doom Eternals gameplay FPS difference at 4K with everything on between the 2080ti and the 3080? In many cases it was double the FPS. Someone else posted it and you can see real world game play numbers with that demo. This is also most likely with less than optimal pre-release drivers.

Overall based on leaked benchmarks it’s not close to double. Here’s a nice summary:

https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/com...&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3

I game at 1080p and so I’ll definitely wait on 3080 ti and Big Navi before I switch out my 2080 Ti.

Ok, just re-acclimated myself with the program. That settles it, Theres an Evga 2070 Super at my local Best Buy I can pick up today. I’ll have 14 days to NOT register it in case I’m able to pick up a 3080 on launch day.. so I can return without jacking it up warranty rights for the next person. If not, I’ll use the StepUp program to and it will cost me roughly 200 bucks.

THIS right here is why (H) is awesome.

You'll get put on a waiting list for step up IIRC. You just have to be on the waiting list within 90 days of purchase. No idea how long the wait is.

I figured as much. As long I get confirmation that I am on the list, and I have a solid performing card as the stopgap, I won’t mind the wait. Probably allows me to appreciate the leap that much more. Even before it died, the nitro couldn’t play Horizon at native res with high enough frames to freesync to kick in. The 2070 S by itself would have been a game changer, lol.

It's okay. Buy what you want. You aren't going to get top of the line for 1080 Ti prices no matter what you whine about. It is what it is. There's always lessor performance from AMD...

Who's whining?

And now seeing 1080Ti's going up quick, funny some people trying to sell them for $700CAD, but some below $500 CAD.

We're talking about benchmarks and you quoted me talking about prices and whining. Not sure what your point was here.

Sorry brother. I guess I'm tired of folks crying about high-end cost for high-end performance. All of us just don't care about price when all is said and done. Just ignore me. No sweat.

Haha all good, I just want to see some more numbers from multiple sources. If I can snag a 3090 w/that BB stacked discount then I'm getting it on day one otherwise i'm gonna hold out for 3080 Ti/Big Navi.

Again, video demo already linked showing double the FPS at 4K in Doom Eternal. You can go watch it yourself in this thread. I'll take actual video evidence of performance vs someone posting in reddit no matter who they are.

I don't doubt the FPS is great in Doom at 4K, but that doesn't mean it's always double or close to double 90% of the time. Based on the leaked benchmarks, the 3080 excels at 4K vs 2080 Ti but the gap closes quite a bit at lower resolutions. Will wait on more benchmarks regardless, just a few days now.

Lower resolutions are CPU limited. We need faster CPU's.

Never said it was. I said that it is crazy that it is that the new 3080 card is showing up to double the FPS in that Doom Eternal actual gameplay video. The guy then tried to tell me it isn't double FPS. This is after I literally watched the video of it being double FPS. I never said it was always double FPS in all situations. That would be a massive strawman argument.

Dropping in with an update to my situation. Best buy employee gave me the knowing nod when I asked specifically for the EVGA 2070. $569 price, roughly 615 after tax. They had an FE 2070 S, in stock at 499, and they had an MSI 2060 S card listed at 449, which made me chuckle. That said...

Oof. This card fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. Never been a fan of clear plastic shrouds and this one is just...nah. Reminds me of those Altezza style taillights the ricers used to put on Civic and Accords (sub Silverados and Yukons if you're from the country) in the mid 00's. Surprisingly small compared to the old chonker. Performance is a totally different beast, though. Tested HZD @ 3840x1200, set to ultra, min framerates were upper 50s during an intense fight with a pair of rockbreakers. The 1600 is the obvious weak link - a faster CPU probably gives me a base of mid/high 60s. Color me impressed! Getting by with this while waiting in the step up list is the definition of a first world problem.

Nice! EVGA step is so nice around hardware releases. Enjoy until you get the real deal.

I got an alert for this, but I thought it was just the watercooler only (price was cut off)..
They were gone before I realized. sad.

For those selling Turing cards locally, you may be surprised at the price you can get. I sold (2) 2080 supers today for $500 each to different buyers. And yes they were aware of new card releases coming soon.

Just FYI, you may be able to sell for more locally.

Good for you!

2080 Ti can be sold for up to ~$US 700 in my area... this is irrational given that the upcoming 3080 will sell for the same price... but 30-50% faster (+ HDMI 2.1).
Frankly, I do not know if these buyers ignore the existence of the 3000 series or lack a bit of *processing power*.

Actually the people I sold to said they feared waiting for months on end to get a card, and frankly they didn’t need the extra horse power. Both said almost the same thing. Both seemed content with spending what they did.

It’s really only been the forums I frequent that have been dogging prices on the Turing cards. My local experiences have been very different.

$700 ish is fine if the new cards are hard to get for awhile. If the supply doesn't stabilize until after 2021 starts, it is not so bad of a price. The people feeling the hurt though are those that paid $1200 or more recently. That is a little harder to justify now even if the newer cards take a bit for supply to be readily available. Now Nvidia has done things both ways. Had huge supply ready on release day, and almost nothing like AMD typically does. If it is the former, and anyone that wants a card can get a card on release.... that $700 spent doesn't look so justified any more. If supply is readily available, then anyone that recently spent $1200 is really going to be kicking themselves if they know about it.

Truth be told though, not everyone who buys graphic cards like these keeps up to date on latest info. Many will have bought a 2080ti in recent times for $1200 and have no idea that new cards are coming out nor do they care. They wouldn't look at latest trends either. They need something now, saw it was the best, and paid the asking price. They will use that card until they need to update for whatever reason. Then do the same thing. Never knowing that if they had waited just a tiny bit of time they could have picked up a better product at a better price. That is just how some people are. They aren't into the tech scene as a hobby.

However, for those that are in the tech scene... anyone that bought recently knowing full well that new cards were due out soon I can only call schadenfreude on as I read through the internet to a degree. I mean I have a little sympathy as even I lost value in my 2080ti overnight despite owning it for awhile. I have been finding all the meme making and youtube videos funny though as well as the trend line on what the various 2XXX video cards have been going for. Surprisingly the 1XXX cards haven't really dipped that much at all if any. I don't know why anyone would be willing to pay almost $400 for a 1080ti, but I've seen a few sold for that. Crazy to me to anyone buying that for that price.

Also, for those wanting to wait on the AMD video cards to be released to see what happens, the official announcement date for those cards are 10/28 for those that didn't know already. Also, according to IgorLabs, the cards won't likely be actually released until 2021 as there hasn't been any bill of sales by AMD for product parts from 3rd party vendors. There may be a small batch of AMD in house built cards, but those will be hard to get. IgorLabs also states that the current leaked config of Big Navi at 275w will most likely have performance between the 3070 and the 3080 with a price in the middle of those two cards as well. Which means if true, the prices we see now for the Nvidia cards are going to be holding at launch. Also, it has been leaked of several more SKUs for the Nvidia 3XXX series which includes a 3060 TI/Super variant with still more CUDA cores than the current 2080ti and actually may still match the performance of the card. Expected pricing to be below $500 of the 3070 still. That will further tank the value of the 2080ti.

snip...That will further tank the value of the 2080ti.

I think this is a good thing. It will give those that normally only spend around $350 on cards to grab a great card cheap. If I was a 2060 owner I'd love to buy a 2080 Ti for $350. I don't think we'll see anything new gen with comparable performance that is so cheap. I could be wrong and AMD/NV might surprise in that cost/performance bracket.

I love it when people start chirping at me because I bought 2 2080ti’s. They are quick to remind me that they will only resell for $300. It’s all good until I ask them if the 2080ti is worth $300, how much are they going to ask for their 2060 or 5700xt.

Exactly. The level to which those cards will sink is pretty low.

Personally, I love the 5700 XT. I will scoop one up once the market stabilizes in a few months. Or sooner if I see one around the $200 mark. Would be a solid upgrade from the RX 570 in my basement rig.

I think everybody is overestimating how the prices will drop. When the $500 2070S was released everybody thought 1080ti prices would drop. They still sold for over $5-600 because no AIB 2070S cards sold for anywhere near $500 and stock was low. This was after actual reviews were out and people knew exactly what they were getting.

As long as my 1080ti doesn't die on me, I'm good until the Black Friday/holiday deals hit. The 1080ti works just fine for any games I run. Prolly get a 3080, then set my 1080ti aside as d/r, then retire my r9 295 x2 for good, it does suck up a lot more power.

...The 1080ti works just fine for any games I run.

A 1080ti still works superbly for most games unless you're playing at 4k. No reason not to hold off for stock and prices to stabilize, and see what AMD has in store. If I still had my 1080 ti, and I wasn't using a 4k monitor, I'd be having a pint and waiting for this to all blow over.

I think that's a unique 1-off situation or a very uninformed seller. I've seen brand new EVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Hybrids go for over $1000 recently. Used ones are going for $600~$700 for the past few weeks. How do I know? Because I've been watching all the FTW3 Hybrids on Ebay for weeks and just bought a 2nd one now for around $670 with some fierce bidding competition (has the original box/packaging/accessories, usually just the cards only go for the low $600 mark). I bought a 2nd one for SLI because I already know I probably won't get a Hybrid 3090 until the end of the year if I'm lucky and I just simply couldn't wait anymore. I'll upgrade to 1 or 2 RTX 3090's when I don't have to sit around and spam F5 all day.
