RTX 3xxx performance speculation

VRAM doubt it is slowly creeping in, but I game at ultra widescreen 1440p 144hz so I think I will be ok with a 3080 10gb and then upgrade to a 3080 ti or 4080 down the line.
I'd personally really prefer a double memory 3080. It's not that 10GB is too low now, but that I tend to keep my GPUs for three or four years.

Yes, if you plan to keep it for 4 years then I would probably wait for the double memory one. I have a feeling 10 GB won't be enough in 2-3 years if you game at 4K.

made this this morning reading more people bitching that they should get a trade up on there 2080ti... lol

You know I wouldn't be too upset yet. For all we know the 3070 performs better than the 2080ti in RTX and DLSS....All we saw were a bunch of marketing slides.

Just my 0.02c.

We know the specs and have a vague review.... how did you arrive at 35%?
That's based on previous launches, and leaked benchmarks showing about that.
No only that, but the doubling of performance was shown to be in RTX mode, which I believe. I don't think it's going to scale that well for non-RTX loads.

More rumors 3000 series rumors. Some of them date back a few months bit they seem to be getting traction in the tech community.

GA106 and GA107 have been tapped out for a few months so it looks like nVidia is going to 4 die packages as presumed.

GA106: This looks to be 192 bit. The 3060 will use this and rumored to be 12GB. That seems backwards, but it has been done before. (3GB 1060 vs 4GB 1050ti) There will most likely be a more cut down version with 6GB later in the year (3050ti?)

GA107: No info I could find, but probably 128 bit. (3050 4/8 GB and something else cut down - 3030 with 96 bit?) Nvidia really needs to attack the budget gpus harder this time. That Series S is a hell of a deal.

3060ti: This will be GA104-200, so similiar to what the 2060 Super was to the 2070. Most likely next year.
[ If we stop saying 'Super' the name will go away ]

They showed performance for both.

Also:

When the slide says RTX 3070 is equal or faster than 2080 Ti, are we talking about traditional rasterization or DLSS/RT workloads? Very important if you could clear it up, since no traditional rasterization benchmarks were shown, only RT/DLSS supporting games.

[Justin Walker] We are talking about both. Games that only support traditional rasterization and games that support RTX (RT+DLSS).

So really no granularity on what it means at all...

No, just that they were talking about both rasterized and ray tracing when they made the 3070 vs 2080ti claims which was relevant to the post I quoted.

im i reading this right 30 to 50% better over the 2080ti for the 3080... then figure the 3090 is another 20ish % faster FUUUCK ME
Looks closer to that 30% mark vs 2080Ti. 3090 is probably 50%+ faster than the 2080Ti.
Also could be fake, looks like those guys have previously faked results.

Using the 3080 vs 2080ti being 30% faster and the 3090 being 18% faster than the 3080 then the 3090 is 53% faster than a 2080ti.

Using DF’s 3080 vs 2080 comparison I got the 3090 is 76% faster than a 2080ti.

Using the card’s teraflops or cuda cores (assuming similar Mhz) it would suggest even faster... which implies 53-76% 3090 vs 2080ti is actually a decently realistic range.

One thing is certain - Ampere is a beast. Just by how much.

Hmmm so there is a press driver out which means samples have gone out to the press then I assume?

Considering that first reviews unlock on the 14th yeah they had to get them out and probably the first day the leak happened.

Hey. Availabality rtx 3090 is 24 september? I want order from nvidia official. Also must sell my 2080 Ti Aorus Waterforce :D

Okay, I actually really appreciate being proven wrong like this. NVIDIA is going super aggressive in pricing, I guess. That's rather surprising.

I ended up returning my Corsair RM750x...had 1 day left to return it so I made the decision...will be getting an RM850x...it's probably overkill for my needs but I'd rather play it safe and have some extra headroom for the future...plus the 850x is only $10 more expensive then the 750x

750W will be fine.!!

750W will be fine.!!

yes I'm sure it is but an extra $10 for piece of mind...plus Nvidia recommends 750 watts so I'd prefer getting something above that (even if they are calculating a worst case scenario)...I also like to keep my builds for 5+ years (my current one is 10 years old) so going for higher then needed is a good move

Yeah so go to 850W without lost cash is fine then :) nice. I have actually Seasonic TX-750W PRIME TITANIUM PLUS and its enough for Rtx 3090. Hope so !!! HeHe.

the number of rumored Ampere cards within the first 3 months is crazy...3090, 3080 (10GB and 20GB), 3070 (8GB and 16GB), 3060...you'd think that Big Navi just took the performance crown from Nvidia

Not far off normal except allowing AIBs to sell double memory cards, which might be overdue given the number of people who seem to want more memory, at least until they see the price tag.

So... I have been thinking a lot.

The he memory situation might have been done in an effort to make the launch have the biggest splash as possible. Surely Nvidia was keenly aware of the biggest grip of their 2000 series RTX line, which by far was the price increase. I would expect any company driven towards success to put effort towards controlling their image.

Seems logical that the memory configurations aren't accidental, that it is to do with cost. So the memory is a result of a cost cutting choices. And this fits pretty well with what I said above. There are always trade offs, especially in making graphics cards.

So I am wondering, will their quickly be a ton of board partner cards with twice the memory. So, if there is wide spread double the memory cards coming quickly down the pipe, perhaps the memory configurations of the launching FE editions was mostly about creating buzz that that could further resonate because of the lower pricing. Surely Nvidia wanted to make the biggest splash possible and really, when you think about it, it was the unexpected pricing that drove the excitement.

If this was a conscious effort, it's pretty genius. So for me, I would find what I have suggested more plausible if we see a huge wave of 2x memory aftermarket vendor cards coming down the pipe. Within three months or so, the length of time an AiB partner needs to get a product readied and available.
