Best Quiet Case for Silent 4K Gaming at High FPS on Max Settings

Hi All,
My first build was in 2016 and was built in a Corsair 900D.

Have cases come a long way since then?

I am considering upgrading my existing system (started a thread on the WC section) or more than likely doing a new build. Is the 900D still regarded as a good case?

I want a silent 4k high fps killer.

* Update to original post
- The case only needs to accomdate 1 hefty GPU like 3090.
- It will be WC
- will only use m.2 ssd*

It'll depend on what you're planning to use, and how much you're willing to drop on Noctua's.

Also: Keep an extra special eye on the video card coolers.
 
I'm a big fan of Fractal, had a Define R5 and just upgraded to a Define 7 XL. Loudest thing in my case is my (still relatively silent) GPU.
The XL is absolutely overkill unless you're planning on having more than 6 Hard Drives.
 
As above, fractal define R6/7 are made with sound dampening materials inside, you can also look into Be Quiet cases.
 
Best case for silent gaming is Phanteks P400A RGB (no joke – less obstructions > more airflow/less turbulence > lower temps > lower fan speed possible > lower noise). Throw in arctic liquid 280 cooler as exhaust on top and you are in for a treat. At least that is what I would do if I was building gaming machine right now. Next step would be to hope neither your GPU or PSU presents you with pleasantries of coil while :) That and as few traditional hdd's as possible as seeking sound of mechanical hdd can be louder than entire PC.

Edit: Sadly P400A is largely abysmal full WC case. I 'd say 900D is still good case (unless you really want humongous dual chamber case, didnt really look into those after my failed attempts with X9 and W100) and, if you are in adventurous mood, even a good candidate for dual loop – bottom side + front radiators as intake for CPU and back + top rads as exhaust for GPU. If you are mostly gaming you most definitely will have better internal case temperature as GPU will generate most of the heat (which will be immediately exhausted) while maintaining CPU at lowest possible temperature.

I will check it out. I am not too great with WC so not too adventurous. I am amazed my existing rig never had any issues.

No one knows how big the 3090 will be on release.
We don't know if the FE cooler will be effective vs partner coolers.
There's no data on how much heat they'll generate, or how much airflow the 3090 will need before you see temp at edge or throttling.

SFF case design I believe will have to iterate to accommodate new gpus if any leaks are to be believed.

I believe there will be value in blocking the 3090, seems like a big hot card ideal for open loops.

Here's the problem(s) you're going to run into:

We don't know shit functionally about the 3090 yet. FE vs Aftermarket, etc? It may be a 3 slot card, and a lot of small cases are capped at 2 slots.

You're trying to stuff a fuckton of heat (We already know the 3090 will be hot at nearly 300W?) along with a high end CPU, and other gear, into a shoebox.

You have two choices, really:

Upgrade the case size, for Air, or switch to watercooling.

So what would be the highest good quality case that you would suggest for this setup. Quiet is important for me.

You aren't set on cooling solution yet, and I suspect an open loop isn't suited for the responses to questions you've replied with.

3090 is supposed to be a Titan replacement gpu.

You should look at independent reviews based on the games you play tempered by the monitor you own and go from there.

For example, I have a 100hz older Acer x34. I use it for productivity and Civ. Civ is the only game I currently play on that monitor. I don't need to exceed 100hz at any graphical setting with it. It is noticeably slow playing Cod on it compared to my 1440p or 1080p monitor. Therefore I will focus down RTS and 1player game state if any reviewer bothers testing Cyberpunk 2077 on a out of print 34" 3440x1440 ultrawide. If not, I'm out of luck and have to base my concerns on my previous experiences with my setup. I may want to play Serious Sam 4 on my ultrawide for the 1player experience + no worrying about twitch 270 spinning in MP. I doubt anyone is testing Sam 4 on my setup. I'll have to extrapolate, or deal with what I've bought blind.

You have to have something fixed in place or it's a giant moving target that doesn't satisfy requirements properly.

I always play the latest AAA titles like COD, Cyberpunk etc and often fall back to company of heroes 2 and civilization.

Are you talking about a TV?

Start with attainable reality, don't mentally jump over a 850hp factory built street car bc nitro dragsters are the biggest HP thing on 4 wheels.

When you play fighting games or shooters you'll notice resolutions higher than 1440p introduce latency.

There's a reason why the 1080p 240hz monitor is currently the darling of pro gamers.

Why does higher resolution cause latency? If the GPU can handle it and is an pcie4 slot it shouldn't be a problem right?

On the screen front I was thinking the Samsung G9

I think it is doable for less than half that with a 3090 and other good components. I think maximising my enjoyment is a very good reason. I haven't built or bought a computer since 2016 and it is overdue.

1500 Card, 1500 Screen, I can't imagine you're getting a cheap CPU/Board/Case, so there's another 1000+....

I mean, I have no idea what you're doing after you build it, but from the cheap seats, it looks like you're throwing money at it in a ridiculous fashion

It certainly isn't cheap but it lasts me a good 3 to 4 years, it is tax deductible against my business saving me 20%. It is worth it to me especially given the time I spend working and playing behind a screen.
