Jensen Huang announces Ampere prices

Well..err......ahem.........carry on, then. Well Done.....

I'm with DanNeely .. Goodbye GTX 1080. We'll be seeing used 2080Tis in the fs/ft forum here for $349 by new years :p
I like how he said it's time for Pascal owners to upgrade. I mean... maybe? $500 is still a lot and anyone who owns a GTX 1080 is probably still comfortable with it. I was hoping to see the 3060 announced with pricing but nothing. If the RTX 3060 is as fast as the RTX 2080 TI or a bit slower then consoles may have a hard time selling, but that's assuming a lot including pricing. Guess I'll be picking up a used RTX 2070 by Christmas time for cheap.

AMD though is going to have a hard time with Big Navi pricing after Nvidia's announcement. Of course with anything we need benchmarks before determining anything.

Nvidia gave everyone what they wanted while still increasing the price on the top end GPU (3090). Everyone wins IF the benchmarks support the claims.

My used 1080 I got 2 years ago will probably be retired soon.

A 1080 owner is a 3080 owner. Price isnt a factor.

Upgrading from my 2080 to a 3080. And that's a large performance increase for a reasonable price.

lets just hope they have enough to go around. anybody heard anything on 3rd party cards? wonder if they'll be cheaper?

I really want to see a tear down of those cards. The PCBs look fantastic and completely different. I knew they were going to have to make big changes to cut PCB costs and complexity and that it would require some interesting engineering solutions and they did not disappoint there. The new power requirements on these things makes way more sense now.

Sounds about right to me. You would expect xx80 series owners to want to upgrade to newer xx80 series cards. Most of us just didn't with Turing because the 2080 wasn't the greatest upgrade ever. I would imagine a 3060 in the $349 range would be an upgrade too, but not really a huge generational upgrade you would want.

I'll be going from 1080 to 3080 without question. 1080 is feeling dated to me ever since RDR2 launched, I can barely get 1440P out of that game. I'll also grab a 2080Ti from the used market when they plummet to less than $400 for my secondary rig!!

I was honestly expecting the 3080 to come in around $999, so nvidia really dropped a bomb on us here. $699 is only 100 more than the 1080 at launch and the leap in performance looks to be unbelievable.

Regarding AMD.. oh boy.. I sure hope they have a show to put on themselves.. We'll all be getting major power for reasonable prices AT LAST.

Nah, AIBs they're going to add their inferior coolers with RGB colors and raise the prices $20-100 as usual.

On the bright side, the AIBs better show superior temperatures if they expect us to drop extra cash on their cards.. I expect some major re-designs are taking place right now. Otherwise I'll be patient until I can get a (probably better binned) reference card..

Maybe but the pricing for those others are downed right dare I say reasonable......

Or maybe they just re-named their product stack and increased prices.

3080 for $699 would have been the 3070
3070 for $499 would have been the 3060
3090 for $1499 would have been the 3080

We'll probably get a 3090Ti for like $2500 - $3000

They played the name shift game and now people say prices are cheaper? Gullible much?

Geez, the whining can't stop. Why would anyone expect a 3060 to be faster than a 2080 Ti? It's the price that matters not the label on the box.

How much for a tin foil hat?

Not if the perfromance numbers are to be believed. the 3090 looks like it is suitable titan successor, and the 3070 is supposedly slighlty better than a 2080ti, which would be typical. The 2070 was about in line with 1080 performance.

Given the size of that thing, I don't know that there will be a Ti anything. Or even a 3090 super. That's going to have fitment issues in a lot of cases I suspect.

That would be a failure to nvidia if they make 3090ti to $2k+ price. Nobody in their right mind to get that over 3090.

These prices look good to me. That said, it also confirms what we instinctively knew all along, that Nvidia priced their cards as they did because they could, not because they needed to. :cautious::p:eek:
I still think they needed too to some degree, they had a crap ton of R&D costs to cover in those cards. And looking at all the new tech they announced in their presentation that’s really super cool. So I’m not complaining one way or another, but I wonder what AMD is going to bring to the table here.

So if I get this right the 3070 is faster than a RTX 2080 Ti and $500? Good luck AMD.
Not long ago I put my foot in my mouth and swore "no way would Jensen let a new xx70 card beat previous gen flagship Ti card". Granted, a 1070 did beat 980Ti as someone pointed out. What I hadn't factored was Jensen knows lots of Pascal owners sat out Turing, and the presentation made it very apparent he wants those Pascal owners to upgrade now.

This Ampere launch is very much unfolding like Pascal Part II.

Is it safe to assume right now that 3080ti will be next year? and 3090 is actually the titan replacement? all speculation but $1199, for 3080ti and maybe 16gig of vram instead of 24 like the 3090 right now. Thoughts?
I'd lay money on a 3080Ti at $899 or $999 in March/April 2021. And its not going to have an even 16GB because of bus width constraints.

Haha. Who cares what game they played when a $499 card is going to stomp the 2080Ti that currently costs at least twice as much? This is an insane launch. Nvidia rick rolled us all, with the vast majority of people expecting a $999 3080 that would be barely better than a 2080Ti. Every single thread painted it as such. Now we're getting a card that annihilates the 2080Ti for $699. Woot! I guess I'm gullible!

How would that be typical? My 2080 is faster than 1080Ti more often than not.

Definitely not typical.. Haven't seen anything like this since the 970 came around and made the 780Ti a joke. If his charts are accurate (which we can't confirm nor deny until benchmarks), this would be a much wider gap than even that.

2080 Ti performance for $499 is an unreasonable price increase according to GotNoRice? Some people want too much...

Tech moves forward. Each generation of new tech is supposed to be faster relative to it's price.

And if anyone has actual benchmarks that are more than simple rumors, by all means feel free to post them. Otherwise what are you going on about as if you actually know how fast these will be?

Nvidia’s slides maybe?

Okay, if 2080 Ti performance for $499 is so unreasonable and a price increase-- whats a reasonable price then? Is it supposed to be $299? $350?
