> NVIDIA's new Ampere-based GeForce RTX 3080 is said to be around 15-25% better than the RTX 2080 Ti, which will be a big deal if the GeForce RTX 3080 is priced at $799. The slightly lower-end GeForce RTX 3070 will reportedly offer RTX 2080 Ti level performance for $599 -- which is going to really shake things up.

> We should see NVIDIA's new GeForce RTX 3090 feature a huge 24GB of next-gen GDDR6X memory at 21Gbps, while the GeForce RTX 3080 will have 10GB of GDDR6X at 19Gbps.

> Here's an easier break down for you:

> GeForce RTX 3090: $1399

> GeForce RTX 3080: $799

> GeForce RTX 3070: $599

> GeForce RTX 3060: $399

Someone answer this for me then... How is it that a card will have 2080ti level performance for half the price of what I paid for a 2080ti? What the fuck did I spend $1200 on? Why were the RTX 2080tis so overpriced then? I'm not saying that hindsight is 20/20 but what I'm saying is that my assumption with the 2080ti prices (even to this day) was that this was a new price norm. That the new "ultra" cards short of the Titans obviously would be at minimum $1k but now you can get 2080ti level performance for half the price of what even the current top end cards still sell for? 2080tis are still starting at $1k. I've never seen a performance to price difference this radical in a next gen video card compared to the previous top end card in my life.

First these pricese are rumors/guesses, as are the performance numbers.

Next it seems more likely that 3070 will NOT perform like 2080 Ti. It has significantly less memory BW. The only supposed leaked benchmarks are for 3080 and 3090 which are lining up with their memory bandwidth. If 3070 lines up with memory bandwidth, it will perform more like 2080 Super, than a 2080 Ti.

Next, you didn't have to play $1200 for an RTX 2080 Ti. The theoretically start at $1000, just like this rumor guess of 3070 theoretically starting at $600. Good luck finding a $600 3070 if it were actually near 2080 Ti performance.

Even though those are all good guess, I would add $100 for FE cards or any AIB card you could buy any time soon.

So it's mostly BS, in the case of 3070 that upset you, it will probably cost more, and perform less.

Would that make you feel better.

Finally you do know, that what you are complaining about, is exactly the kind of progress most people hope for?

Good one right there! Right? Please tell me that was sarcasm (which doesn't translate well over the internet).

You paid the early adopters tax and for two years of access to high performance. Using your logic, people should be pissed that they paid $1000 for an 8-core CPU two years ago when Intel sells faster 8-cores today for $300.

We can only hope this is the norm. It’s not like we’ve never seen this before. The 1060 is faster than the 780 Ti.

Ikr? I paid $1000 for a 1ghz p3 20 years. I could get 5ghz now for $400 wtf? Makes no damn sense.

Wonder what percentage of the performance of the 3090 the 3080 will be.. 75? 85? more? less?

Its called the progression of technology. My Hercules 64mb DDR Geforce 2 Ultra was 936 dollars,should I whine and bitch ? No.

I get the feeling nVidia is changing their pricing structure. I think these 3000's series model numbers will be the equivalent of the following last gen cards...

3090 = RTX Titan
3080 = 2080 Ti
3070 = 2080
3060 = 2070

I forsee this being a very expensive generation of cards.

Good that makes it easier for those of us who has no problem spending money to get what we want. For every person who hesitates buying due to price there a person who would snatch it up in a heartbeat.

3090 is a 2080 Ti price increase and a Titan price cut.

Nah the Titan has yet to be released. 3090 is the new Ti.

Isn't there an nVidia event or something today that's supposed to announce all this stuff?

We will know soon. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/special-event/

As for the price, hoping for a cut to 21 rather than the usual 99

> GeForce RTX 3090: $1399 $1321.21

> GeForce RTX 3080: $799 $721.21

> GeForce RTX 3070: $599 $521.21

> GeForce RTX 3060: $399 $321.21

....wishful thinking, lol

It will be like last time, those prices will only be available for a short amount of time, enough so Nvidia won't have to lie about the "attractive" price vs performance figures it will paint up tomorrow, they align perfectly with my own guesses but it's the "unrealistic" pricing that definitely won't be available forever and only in the US (rest of the world like in europe we never got to see the nice pricing of the suggested MSRP launch pricing of 2xxx series).

It will be only specific models for like a week, after that Nvidia plays the supply & demand card, makes sure the volume is small enough that it has to warrant the demand play its course to drive up the prices as it'll be sold out everywhere for the first couple of months.

If I was living in the US I'd definitely consider a 3070 at $599 as a 1070 Ti replacement.

I don’t know if I’d agree it’s a 1:1 ratio, as stats for sales say otherwise.

But I get your point.

Nice summary. You're one of the few I've seen who actually understands that nVidia is balancing consumer expectations with MSRP while working with AIBs to tightly control actual prices through supply.

Cards available for purchase at MSRP will be extremely ephemeral because they're not meant to be sold at MSRP.

FE cards always sell for MSRP at NVidia.com. Supply and demand effects price of AIB cards. Just like it does for AMD GPUs...

FE cards are in a way the equivalent to the Black Friday $100 4k TV of which Best Buy has 10 in stock, at least at launch -- they sell out in minutes. They're meant to be an anchor for the MSRP. Post launch, FE is another lever through which nV controls pricing (either accreting or diluting) and takes power away from AIBs.

News flash. Stuff in demand, sells out. This happens to every hot new GPU/CPU.
