CDW Outlet Finds

man i get a company discount but shit on CDW is still over priced or prices from like 6 months ago. This is just personally what ive seen.

It really seems to depend on the product. Some of the outlet sales have been prices I couldn't find anywhere else when comparing (though that was pre-shipping cost). Their "regular" non-outlet prices don't seem to be that competitive, though.

I see some T630 thin clients floating around

$154.99. Not sure how great of a deal that is overall but definitely decent compared to new price. 8GB RAM / 128GB flash variant (which i think is the highest configuration for these?)
Might be better off with a mini PC like a ThinkCentre Tiny or something, but I believe these may be fanless? I can't tell.
In the time that you guys noticed these the guys over at servethehome already bought them. They're a common platform to run lightweight virtual machines or use as a head-end for a cluster. The expanded chassis version that accepts a pcie card is commonly used for a pfsense build.

In stock form, they're great to use as a power sipping completely silent rdp client. I actually use an older Wyse z90s7 to rdp into any/all of the machines that I have in various places. I sometimes forget that I even use one until times like this as it's just silent.

As a thin client, they can also be locked down very hard, so they make great head-ends for seniors and kids that will otherwise mess up a full computer. As long as it's just general productivity, you can keep a system/vm/server elsewhere and just have a thin client, monitor, and keyboard for the user that they cannot change. I used some very old Neoware thin clients in a setup like this to keep my parents from constantly trashing systems full of gunk.

I've found that the places that have better prices and are still selling genuine goods takes much longer to get--like Provantage and Compsource. Items from these companies are definitely cheaper, but it will sometimes take weeks to get it. That's okay if you can plan ahead, but if I need something more immediately, CDW's regular price is the best I can find for the real thing in a faster timeframe. Of course if I'm planning ahead, I'm buying from the outlet and getting it cheaper than anywhere else. (y)

Any good deals on usb flash drives
The only flash drives I've seen in the outlet are those which are not consumer--fips encrypted, etc. But this is the current outlet where there's almost nothing anymore.

They are annoying slow these days. Also, I was told yesterday on chat that they weren't able to generate a quote for me since they aren't sales reps, which is the first time I've heard that. She gave me the name of my sales rep and I emailed him and never heard back. Bye bye 5% I guess!

friend on FB bought something a month or 2 ago and nothing, zip zilch, nada, then got charged the other day 1 or some months later. We had vendor like that at work and we just stopped using them.

Wow, that's not good to hear. :( I wonder if it is a sales issue or supply? Ingram Micro, the distributor they buy from, was bought out by the chinese a couple of years back so who knows if that's now a problem.

Was this on an outlet item or just regular? Because for regular stuff they're pretty good about sending the order conf just like every other company and going from there.

I'm noticing that as well. A friend at work said he was looking for a ups for his rack. Normally there are several to choose from but nothing for the last week or so.
Yeah I've seen that too. There was only even a single rack mount last time I checked. :( Just shows how much sales have slowed down.

Now that being said, I forgot about the power supply shortage and these 750w units sitting in the outlet. They're not the best price, but considering they're in stock at a discount may mean more right now.

I was watching that one...was wondering how low it would go, lol.
Yeah, I had a "bite" price. The weird thing - the first listing for it said "new - blemished packaging" which then changed to "used - like new".

Received it yesterday and the card was in original box (serials matched) but in an antistatic bag for a 2080ti. Imagine my face when I saw the bag said 2080ti. o_O. Haven't tested yet, but I've had a good experience with PNY warranty and CDW is 2.5 hours away from me in IL.

Their vernon hills warehouse is 20min from me....I used to go to their showroom all the time.

I hope you actually got a 2080Ti...that would be epic. Good luck!

I just picked up an 860 Evo 500GB for $44 shipped!!! MOAR SSD!
I saw that one. :D I knew someone would get a deal on it. :)

There's some really good deals on 12TB and 16TB SAS enterprise drives in the works, and lots of drives too so probably enough for everyone: (y)

So when I placed my most recent outlet order I found out why there was a lull in outlet items--CDW closed their warehouse for an entire week while implementing a full blown business continuity plan. It actually took everyone by surprise as they sent an email out on a Friday evening, so everyone scrambled to get out critical orders and then they stopped all shipping and revamped the warehouse procedures for long-term safety as well as implemented a full blown wfh setup for the call center reps. It took about a week to hammer out the bugs after they came back online, but I asked the rep and he said it's been working great ever since. :) And outlet inventories have been increasing as well. :D

And on a side note, I think I might start being a little quiet here except on non-storage items as I've had drives I needed ordered out from under me for months now. :( I hate to do it, but I've got a drive demand I've needed to fill for better part of a year now. :(

I've actually been watching those 16tb drives but its hard to justify 1200+ atm. Then amazon had some deals on 12tb shuckables and I bit. 700 was a little easier to swallow. Hope I don't get burned but since I got 4 copies of my data I feel pretty confident I can live with the white labels.

This is how I felt about the whole CDW outlet deals when you first started the thread way back...and then I figuired if other people buy the stuff out from under me, it's better for my wallet.
For fileserver I've been buying cheap HP enclosures and 3TB sas drives. It's rock solid. 3TB sas drives go under $25 shipped on ebay.

I hate to be that dude.. but for the many times that I've been here and the 2 times we have talked... I've NEVER bought any of the storage drives you've posted.

Until now. Bought 20 of the 12TB Seatage's. $227.99 each.

I feel like I owe you a beer.

Yep! Posting these deals is mainly to remove the temptation, lol. Like this xerox laser printer at $56:
https://www.cdw.com/product/xerox-phaser-3330-dni-mono-laser/6123488?pfm=srh

Now, do I need a laser printer? No, as I have over a dozen of them. But when the price of a printer is the cost of a cartridge? And if you're a home user the starter cartridges last years so you can upgrade to a new laser every few years just because it's in the outlet? I shouldn't do that--I should put it out there so someone else will do that and take the temptation out of my sight. :D Especially when I just bought a color version of this from the outlet for under $140 shipped, normally $280 without shipping. (y)

This is my first Xerox printer, and I really like the Xerox build quality compared to the HP and Brother lineups. You can tell the Xerox heritage in something as simple as the paper tray, which has almost no flex unlike other brands--it's just a better quality plastic and better quality product. Now, the support...er...sucks. I was told by Xerox support that win 7 wasn't supported even though their site said it was. And the drivers would crash upon install no matter how I did it. I just ended up using a older xerox win 7 color laser driver and it worked fine, but they couldn't tell me that? o_O

SAS drives are the pinnacle of drives--they are the ultra high quality drives that the SCSI lineup was versus IDE back in the day. And used SAS can be so cheap, as you've noticed. :) So what is the cheap HP enclosure you're using? I'd like to have a setup like yours. :)

I knew someone could use them. :) And solid price! $19/TB for enterprise quality with 7200rpm speed, 5yr warranty, and 2M MTBF versus the most recent 12TB easystore deal at BB at $15/TB for drives that are far inferior imo. It just makes cents to me--get it--cents. :D Okay, I won't do any more jokes. :D

If you want to get me something, if you've got an older drive from your upgrade you want to send my way I'll cover the shipping. :) Right now having some spare storage wouldn't hurt even if it's a little drive like 1-2TB. :)

There's still several of these 12TB SAS drives left and now at $220 with what looks like some evidence that they can drop to as low as $165 before exiting the outlet:
https://www.cdw.com/search/?outlet=1&key=12tb&cm_sp=cdwoutlet-_-search-_-search+all&SortBy=PriceAsc

That's $18.33/TB right now and a whopping $13.75/TB if/when they hit $165. Yes, you need an sas controller, but for more reliable drives and cheaper too? It's a worthwhile investment imo. Plus, you can find sas controllers cheap in the outlet as well:

I almost bought a PSU, but then I got hit with the $18 shipping. Still an Okay price, but...

That's the normal rate for UPS--even with my discounts I can't get cheaper than that for the same size box. Just wait for the price to drop one more time. :D

Down to 188 now! One more drop and they're below the current easystore sale price per tb. :D I haven't posted these anywhere else so this thread is the exclusive place to find the deal directly. :)

I just picked up an 1TB WD Blue m.2 sata ssd for $69 OTD. AFAIK this has dram cache, I think..

Do I use this for an XBOX 1 X internal drive upgrade with 2.5 adapter, or do I upgrade my laptop from an 850 evo 500G? Decisions, Decisions...

Nice! I keep forgetting to check the ssds there's some solid deals on 4TB ones in there every so often. (y)

Picked up a WD Gold 4TB drive for $100 out the door. According to the customer service rep it still has the full 5 year manufacturer warranty, so seems worth the gamble.

I bought two 2TB Seagate Exos drives a while back from the outlet. They arrived super quick (I think they upgraded me to 2 day shipping for free, IIRC) and both were only a month or so into their warranty according to Seagate's site. They arrived in non-retail CDW packaging, I think I remember that one had the anti static bag, one didn't. So far I've put like 9500 hours on them with zero issue.

I wouldn't have any issue ordering from them again if the price is right.

I had just bought one of the same WD Gold 4TB drives on Amazon a few weeks back for $169, so if it's just a barely-used return, that's a hell of a discount!

I regularly check CDW Outlet for drives, and am starting to see almost all the recent listings having condition of some variation of "Used" (i.e. "Used-Like New"), and seeing very few as "New" anymore.

They define Used-Like New as having passed testing but may have blemishes. When it comes to a drive, I could see how it could look pristine, pass a test, and still be totally thrashed internally, with thousands or power-on hours and/or very little life remaining in the case of an SSD.

I'm also noticing no mention of Warranty on these used item listings, only the 30 day return policy. Am I missing something, or is this essentially the same as buying used on Ebay, with no real guarantee of condition (other than that it worked during testing and doesn't have visual dents) and a very limited return window?

Edit: so for some items, I see that they do cut and paste the specifications from the retail page, which often list warranty periods (i.e. 5 year limited warranty), but since these are used, as opposed to new, there's no way to know how much warranty is left without purchasing? And for items with no warranty mentioned, I guess its just the 30 day return window?

I haven't made a return or warranty claim with CDW or for items purchased from them that I can recall; however, I had the same questions regarding the warranty on the drives. It appeared that they had copied and pasted the warranty period from the retail page, as you suggested. I had nothing better to do with a couple hours of my life, so I called their customer service center, waited on hold a while, though not that long, then asked their rep about the warranty for the Outlet listing and he said it was the standard 5-year warranty from the date of manufacture with WD. He could have been lying and it has been a long time since I processed a warranty claim with WD, but it seems worth it. When the drive comes in, I'll check it with PartedMagic or WD Data LifeGuard. As long as it passes the conveyance test and it doesn't show tens of thousands of power-on hours, I'm confident it won't be any more risky than dealing with open box items on Newegg.
