Gabe Newell Would Prefer a Xbox Series X over the PlayStation 5

You mean those multi millions of gamers that play those "twitch" games and even have money making eleagues set up for them? Ummm sure OK...

It is inevitable for what exactly? Not trying to argue with you just need a clarification on what point you are trying to make. Are you saying consoles are going to make PC gaming obsolete?

I apologize, sometimes I don't make my comments as clear as they should be.

It is inevitable that gaming on the Console / PC is going to be indistinguishable from each other and in most games this is already largely true. IMO the only real advantage of a PC over the console was eye candy since most of the AAA PC games were already console games that were ported. Your said that it was false because of the exception in competitive twitch games (not used as a derogatory here) where pc players have the keyboard/mouse advantage and the ability to stream for e-leagues. But my point was that that consoles are already using a keyboard / mouse with the games following suit and the consoles also have built in streaming support. The advantages of the PC are rapidly evaporating and even in those twitch games eventually the only remaining advantage will still be the eye candy.

I am not saying that Console > PC or anything of the like. What I am saying is the console already largely does fill the function of a gaming pc and as the advantages of the pc evaporates, spending thousands of dollars every 2-3 years on a gaming pc for no meaningful advantage over the $600/ 4 years alternative is going to seal that industries fate in the long run. I think we are going to see more and more of these companies embracing this for their own long term survival.

I know they had keyboard/mouse options back during the original Xbox 360 days. Not sure if what they have now is better or getting better but it sounds like it?

In the year 2000 you could play Quake 3 Arena on Dreamcast with keyboard and mouse and a VGA monitor to play at 640x480p. You could play online multiplayer using the built in 56k modem or swap it out for a broadband adapter, and you could play crossplatform against PC players.
You could also straight up browse the internet on a Dreamcast with a keyboard and mouse and do a lot of things you could do with a PC. There were plans to make it even more like a PC with hard-drive type add-ons so you could have bigger game updates, download more maps, etc.

That was 20 years ago. Things have regressed since then and only recently has cross-platform become popular. Keyboard and mouse support is still rare.
Maybe consoles and PC will become more alike, but console makers like to have complete control and close off their systems. It was an Epic battle to get Sony to allow cross-platform.

This is the thing: I'm mostly not interested in playing games in the console format, and I know I'm not alone there. At the same time Sony and Microsoft don't seem to be that interested in pushing the PC format to consoles, while the reverse is generally possible.

Ya, it is getting better but it isn't perfect. You can use a keyboard / mouse for a number of xbox one games now, not to mention web browser, discord, streaming, and chat functions. You can also run your xbox on your pc like a gaming version of remote desktop or steam streaming and use a controller + keyboard/mouse.

I don't understand what you mean by format.

Probably as simple as self interest here. Xbox games are the ones that also get Windows ports, and thus can generate Steam Revenue. PS5 exclusives won't come to PC, and won't earn anymore more Steam money...
Exactly what it is IMO. Gabe prefers the console that dont compete with his platform.

Controller -> limited set top box -> TV -> 10' UI
vs.
Controller + whatever you want -> whatever form-factor you want -> whatever display you want -> whatever UI you want
