Ryzen 3900XT, 3800XT, and 3600XT allegedly to be announced by June 16th

Sounds right, you pay more for less parts ;). I'm surprised more didn't jump on that.bandwagon, but seeing as most see it as nothing, I guess the extra r&d wasn't worth the effort.
cost, a 5 cent fan with a 30 cent heatsink is a hell of a lot cheaper than that chunk of aluminum and custom bent heat pipe on the master.

Why would the chunk of aluminum need a custom bent heat pipe? A simple heat sink would probably be fine considering it's mostly fine without the fan now. Give it just a slight bit more surface area than it has now for that tiny margin of safety and it'd work just fine in any case with semi decent circulation. It's this last part why they probably felt the need for the fan to begin with, it can end up in cases that aren't well ventilated and still expected to work. If they took the existing aluminum block and removed the fan and put a few more fins on top, it wouldn't cost any more than having to install a fan on it.
 
For much hotter environments, less savvy routine cleaning, the fan will probably be needed. I've seen PCs controlling steam process in an over 100F environment on a good day lasting years and opening the pc up was pure horrifying with dead bugs, caked solid dirt on CPU cooler etc. Well in that case, the chip fan would probably be dead anyways. For A/C cooled environments, colder environments, well ventilated cases (Enthusiasts), filtered cases which are cleaned, probably not needed as much.

Not impressed with the XT versions, to me it is more a gimmick to keep the prices up while not providing the good cooler. Would like to see an actual comparison with the XT and non XT versions. For 8 cores, the 3700x seems to be the best buy.
 
I use the chipset fan to regulate the temp of my rocket NVME drives at 62C. The fan spins up on hot days but otherwise only on boot. I'm really looking forward to the XT processors, gimmicky or not I'm interested to see how FIT voltage and scaling compare to the lower binned chips. Really it only changes when I will want to grab the last processor iteration for the AM4 socket.
 
I've seen that stuttering mess with my 6700K with background processes going on, even when they are not much at all while the Ryzen systems are indeed smoother for more scenarios. Now the original 1700x was not as smooth as the 2700 and 3900x for having multiple processes going. You can have the 3900x at 100% CPU load and browse and not even know it! The 3960x does not seem as smooth when at 100% CPU (as in like Aida64 Stability test is going on).

TLDR workloads that exceed cache and precompute HOV lanes strain resources.

1:1 upgrade of cores isn't the entire story when going from something like a SB, IVB, Opteron commodity VM host to Xeon gold or Epyc.

We see storage IO improvement and generational ram reducing core contention pressure in essentially desktop computing patterns.

Now if you replay a workload that doesn't hit any of the commuter lanes and have to step back to raw compute then you'll see the high core density cpu or high frequency cpu win against a 1:1 cpu

There's a movement with older Devs to align to the metal, which are several schools of thinking younger engineers weren't exposed to that is interesting in the HPC space.

Didn't AMD say somewhere that there are no differences between the XT and non XT silicon now? It's a 100-200mhz boost clock performance diff, and with the silicon quality of Zen 2 parts being much higher now when compared to early parts, why buy the XT anyways.

They're not the same.

Watch the vid below. AMD tweaked the everything under the curve making the XT chips faster while staying under the same TDP. Wendell showed that he was getting 100-200mhz increase in allcore frequencies sustained. The other big thing is the boost holds for much longer now.

 
Yeah its not a big upgrade, but the older CPUs are still available and at less cost. I'm still glad to see the launch.

It is really interesting to see a lot of 4.6ghz+ all core overclocks on the 3600XT and above. I think that really bodes well for AMD closing on their frequency gap with Intel over time
 
The XT chips are certainly not an upgrade for current 3000 series users. However, anyone still on a nice x370 board and 1000 series cpu the XT is your endgame and a worthwhile upgrade.

That’s a better way to see the XT skus intended user base.
If I was one of those owners I’d wait until after zen3 launched to see if pricing moved down to where zen2 is right now.
If the first zen2 skus are deprecated and mass extinct before November then I’d be concerned about amd sticking to their guns on XT pricing bc that’d mean zen3 set higher $ tiers.
 
It's interesting that they offer the 3900XT now without the AMD Wraith, and instead recommend AIO coolers which in my opinion are not that much better than air coolers or even the Wraith. The 3900XT only is 100mhz faster than the 3900X , that's not worlds apart and and certainly able to be managed by a air cooler.
 
I get tired of the whole "works fine, unless I run Cinebench"... (which is to say, if you don't really need the cores, buy something cheaper).

But with that said, please test your systems with something that might actually stress "all" of your cores a bit. If whatever cooling solution you have can't handle that, the problem isn't Cinebench or whatever.

If your system can't pass Aida64, you have a problem.

(that's been my go-to for the past several years)
