Assassin's Creed Valhalla

This is the first AC game that I am excited for, love the viking setting, never finished Odyssey but may have to before this game comes out. Just hope they optimize the game better than the previous installments.

If this is the Odyssey engine with a new setting I am fine. If they improve it, I may have to build a new PC with something more than a 2070 Super.

It did give my regular RTX 2070 some trouble, but I mainly got 50-70 frame rates. I assume this will be a bit more demanding.

So, apparently the German Ubisoft store mentioned the composers for Valhalla. If it's true these are the three people working on music for the game:

Jesper Kyd! (back for the first time since Brotherhood!)
Sarah Schachner (Did AC: Origins)
Einar Selvik (Norwegian metal musician, been looking up his music and I really dig it.)

I'm thrilled about this: Jesper Kyd returns to Assassin's Creed for this game. :D

will Valhalla be using AnvilNext 2.0?...it's been used since Unity...of course they've continued to improve and update the engine and it still looks great but is AnvilNext 3.0 ready?

15 studios worked on this one game?...is that some sort of record as far as number of studios working on a single game?

I finished The Last Kingdom on Netflix a couple weeks back and just binged season 4-6 of Vikings. This announcement came just at the right time!

Really enjoyed TLK, great show, look forward to another season.

Vikings on the other hand, lost my attention after S3. The start was bumpy (poor acting), but it got better, lost me in season 4, just couldn't get through it. TBH, TLK was a much, much better show with more likeable characters.

Agreed, TLK blows Vikings out of the water.

I started watching Vikings from the beginning and stopped after Season 3, too. Then after I finished TLK, I still had that "Vikings" kick, so decided to finish Vikings, which I'm glad I did.

Anyone going to preorder this game without any gameplay?

the AC games don't need any gameplay videos...most people have played enough of the series to know what to expect...a huge semi open world with a Viking theme...and lots of stabbings

Seems like it's going to be AC:O but set in the North Sea area, with base building.

But preordering? From Ubisoft? Hmm...

Julien Chièze: The first thing that interests the players is the size of the world compared to what you have done previously in odyssey, origins, which are the last two. Is it similar, is it bigger, is it comparable?

Julien Laferrière: I would actually say in terms of range it is probably a bit larger than Assassins Creed Odyssey. I do not have the exact figures at this stage, but we have not only created the whole country, which is in this case England, but also to a good part of Norway too. There are other secret worlds, which I can not speak about today, which contributed to the size of the game. It's not a small game, it is a game which is clearly ambitious, which will offer many many hours of gameplay for the players.

You have my attention now...

That doesn't mean much. If most of the game world is just like Odyssey where much of it is just lifeless nothing I don't see the point of the size.

I only appreciate a larger game world if there is actually stuff in that world to be discovered like Skyrim where literally every nook and cranny of the map is filled with interesting dungeons, etc.

What am I reading here, all the Skyrim dungeons were the same 2 layouts copy-pasted all over the map. Great game but mile-wide, inch-deep.

I have a good feeling about Valhalla, axe combat just does something for my sense of self completion.

I preordered both Origins and Odyssey and wasn't disappointed, but I get what you're saying. AC games are literally the ONLY games I have pre-ordered (maybe ever...I can't think of another one. Maybe Diablo III? ).

I would pre-order this. Ubisoft Montreal/Quebec seem to put out great games. Something from Massive, such as The Division 2, I would never pre-order.

The last game I paid full price for was Diablo 3 in 2012. If ubi is going to use egs and Ubisoft Connect to shaft e-tailer discounts, then I wont be buying their games. I remember pre-ordering both WD2 and Origins for $25. Even Odyssey I got for like $44.

i will be dead and buried in the ground before i pay full price for a pc game.

Oh geez. If ever there were games worth full prices it is the recent Assassin's Creed games. Odyssey was 254 hours for one play through. The game is massive. Valhalla is said to be even bigger.

I kind of agree with that, but at the same time, delaying gratification for 6 months will net you a game that's half off... I completely enjoyed my 233 hour 100% completion play through also though, and didn't mind paying full price (as strange as that sounds). I think I even bought the DLC right out of the gate...something like $80-90 total.

With these what I usually do is wait until I'm in the month of release and then see if GMG or someone throws me a nice discount. I'm a fanboy for these games for the most part so when I have gotten 20 percent off from GMG, for example, and I go all in it's more well worth it to me for the hundreds of hours of awesome play I get out of these.

If you get enough points in Uplay, you can also get a 20% off coupon there.

I really hope this game has some shields and isn't all dual wielding. I also hope it does away with the bounty hunters. I always hated those in Odyssey. I was always spammed constantly with them so never bothered to get very far. I tried to play again this weekend and finally quit after four different bounty hunters showed up at once. I only had 2 red helmets.

Regrettably, UPlay discounts are usually not viable on titles pre-launch or shortly after launch - its typically part of the fine print. .

Shields are definitely on the docket given what has been discussed thus far, including the possibility of actually dual wielding shields so..that should be interesting. Regarding the bounty hunters, in Origins / Odyssey you know you can avoid those by A) not doing criminal actions in the visibility of others. I know this is very difficult at some times such as fighting Athenian or Spartan guards when every guard you kill, seen by other guards adds to the meter. However there are other options such as B) Going to a nearby camp where there is an enemy flagged with a red icon. Defeating this enemy will clear all the wanted meter in the area. If you have bounty from multiple areas, that's its own issue and finally C) The fastest and easiest thing to do when you don;'t feel like fighting them is to simply pay off the bounty! Your map screen has a display where you'll be able to instantly pay off all your bounty for one fee, so that's always an option.

Yeah like you said it is usually caused by being attacked so it just got old. The video gameness of it was just a turn off because they always seemed to instantly appear. Somehow they sent word and these mercenaries on foot travel faster than anything for the time period. If you could disable them permanently I might find the game more enjoyable. It got to the point I stopped checking the mercenaries tab because every time I killed one a new one appeared tracking me. When the four jumped me, I had just killed 3 of them back to back in the middle of the woods. It was like a bad COD monster closet where I hadn't crossed the imaginary line to stop the spawns. I couldn't get any quests down because I was constantly dealing with them and went from 13 to 17 just fighting them.

I think if something happened because of them even if something minor like what happens in Shadow of War when you are killed it wouldn't bother me. It just seemed pointless to me and didn't add anything to the game. I get the idea behind them since it is essentially cops and the GTA rating, but it didn't add anything fun to me.

Yeah I'm done preordering games from UBI Ghost Recon Breakpoint to blame itsok game if you ignore the flaws not nearly as fun as Wildlands.

The have preorders up for the AC game but nobody seen gameplay.

Yeah that feature was shit. In Origins it wasn't that bad. Sometimes it was annoying sometimes it was fun. Could have used tweaking. If I recall it was in some other games like Rogue to. But Odyssey? Terrible implementation.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla creative director steps down following accusation of long-term affair with a fan

Assassin's Creed Valhalla creative director Ashraf Ismail has announced that he's stepping down from the project...the move follows an accusation made earlier this week that Ismail, who also worked on Assassin's Creed Origins and Black Flag, was engaged in a sexual relationship with a fan while hiding his marriage from her...

https://www.pcgamer.com/assassins-c...ollowing-accusation-of-infidelity-with-a-fan/

Well assuming he stepped down on his own, (and Ubi didn't force him out) I would guess he's trying to salvage things with his wife and deal with some of the religious-related backlash from his family.

Leaving the project means he still works at Ubi Montreal and will be back for the next game.

Definitely reminds me of Odyssey. Didn't see any bounty hunters indicated on the UI so maybe they aren't doing it?

No working links the fact that UBI took them down shows what type of company they really are. My guy on Steam even has a broken link.

Everyone on YouTube just talks about the leaked clip.

I'm not typically one to defend Ubi... But of course they wanted this down. Any developer would want it down. The videos were low quality, they no doubt are not the representation Ubi wanted in their first gameplay reveal.

There are lots of good reasons to look down on Ubi. Protecting they way their IP gets shown to the public for the first time isn't one of them.
