iPhone 12 Won't Include Charger Or EarPods In Box

Yep, the past 4 or so iphones I've had, I just took the phone out of the box and stashed away the box with accessories unused. I think that Apple KNOWS that the majority of buyers do this. With that said, I see this as a way for Apple to be more eco friendly. Whether they genuinely care or are just doing it for business purposes is beyond me. I don't remember the source but I read last week that its estimated that there are 300,000+ tons of ewaste in regards to phone chargers. Thats a lot. So Apple is potentially reducing ewaste. Additionally, by getting rid of the charger, the boxes can be more compact. Thereby reducing carbon emissions because you are able to ship more of them in a shipping container for instance.

So the typical Apple basher just sees "Iphone 12 rumored to ship without a charger" but the more sensible/educated person will dig deeper and find the reasons why.

Let's backup. I had one of those Macbooks with the Nvidia chip and they replaced my logic board 2 years out of warranty because they did a recall program (Or whatever you call it). Apple DID do something about those macbooks. Also, lets remember the butterfly keyboards. They extended warranties for users with the Macbook keyboard issues and replaced keyboards for customers even if they were years out of warranty. Apple recognized that the keyboard was shit but did an extension after a large portion of users experienced issues. Apple did do something about that. Apple has done several other recall programs for other defects as well and these were for older products too.

So your claim that Apple doesn't do shit for their customers is untrue.

The majority of Apple product users don't know crap about software/hardware but that their Apple products just work. They also know that if there's an issue with their product, they have incredible customer support such as the genius bar or the ridiculously easy and quick turnaround repairs.

So while Apple may be crap in areas that the majority of Apple users don't care about (Hardware, materials used) they are the KING in areas that the majority of Apple users DO care about. Customer support and ease of use.

And lastly, the part of the status symbol. Maybe 12 years ago but today, I don't think anyone gives a shit about if you have a Apple product nor do I think that other people think its a status symbol. The only people that say this are non Apple users....
This is definitely true. I have an iPhone, but it's a smart phone. I use to use Android. I don't know how they are now, but back then, I found settings for android to be a PITA (not that I felt Apple was perfect either). A Galaxy s20+ vs an 11 Pro Max is in the same ballpark. S20 + has a slightly bigger screen and 5g (which is currently pretty useless for me), while the iPhone has 2x as much internal storage. iPhone is 50 bucks more. I'm unlikely to fill up 256GB of storage on my phone and I'm pretty sure the next iPhone will have 5G.

All in all, this comes down to what you prefer. And I will admit if you want a cheaper model, then Android almost certainly has more options. When I buy my next phone (probably not for a few more years), it'll probably be the latest model, albeit purchased 4 or 5 months after launch and likely on the secondary market. I've gotten great deals on brand new iPhones that way.

Good. Less plastic shit that gets tossed because no one uses that shit in the first place.

The fact that they still included the shit usb charger cube that couldn't even charge the phone while you used it was stupid and a waste.

And who uses the EarPods that came with the phone? They suck.

I need them. I use the cords at home, now have 3 kids who I buy iPads for, sometimes used that don’t come with accessories. I’m fine with that since they are used, but new I expect to have them.
One cord is used at home, one for my car, and one for my work truck. So I’ll take any extra cords I can take, because the ones in my work truck only last about a year since I use them so much. My wife is in the same boat where she needs one for home, her car, and at her office. I also need cords to charge their iPads in my car, so that’s 2 each per car. Having an extra cord from each new phone comes in handy. I’ll never have enough cords honestly.

If Apple deducts the cost of the charger, cord and EarPods from the phone price, I’m okay with that. No way I’ll buy a new iPhone at regular price Without those accessories. With Apple phones I don’t even care to have the latest and greatest one. I’m fine with staying a generation or two behind, so I’d rather buy used. This way I’d save money, even after buying the accessories.

The iPhone 11 Pro comes with an 18W charger, so that's not always true. And the pack-in EarPods... well, lots of people either can't justify the outlay for better earbuds or just don't care for or need more. If you're using them to take calls or listen to podcasts, you're not missing much.

With that said: I'm of mixed minds on the move if true. Apple no doubt sees this as a way to cut costs, and it might not lower prices as a result... but it's also true that a lot of this stuff is just unnecessary e-waste if you already have a charger or a set of earbuds.

(Also: anyone want to put money down on Samsung following suit with its next wave of phones?)

Ahh. I didn’t know they updated the charger, finally.

My XS Max came with the old pos.

“Waah! Mommy! People on the internet disagree with me! Make them see that I’m right and the world revolves around me!” That’s all I get from your word salad.
More like this actually.

Apple lightning cables have been garbage for years, I have some $2 dynex ones I got back when BestBuy put them on sale all the time, they have held up fantasy for 5+ years now, not a single one has broken or frayed.
The problem with Apple lightening cables is that they corrode on one pin on both sides which is why they sometimes don't work. You'll see this black stain on them if you look careful. The solution for me is to use a dremel polisher and that removes the corrosion.

You really don't get it. These are phones and computers -- tools to accomplish things and maybe have some fun.
You bought the wrong tools.
And no matter how much you insist to the contrary, the demonstrable truth is that at least some Apple products are just fine for those tasks.
A broken clock can be right twice a day, doesn't mean you should be using that clock.
I didn't use the word "adults" lightly -- you're a grown-ass person, you shouldn't be wound up by someone preferring gadgets you don't use.
Because I repair these products for adults and I know their flaws, and Apple has a lot of flaws. I've done some crazy shit to fix Apple laptops, though admitely iPhones are super easy to fix compared to most Android phones. So Apple has that going for them.
I don't need to sideload apps to own a product.
By sideloading you mean downloading an APK or doing the ADB command to sideload an application through TWRP because those are two totally different things? Either way, you can't do it without Jailbreaking your device, which I've done and lately it's not worth the trouble. Jailbreaks today only work so long as you don't reboot the Apple device. Once you reboot it you lose the jailbreak. Assuming there's a jailbreak for your version of iOS.
There are advantages to sideloaded apps, I'm aware -- but I also prefer to pay people for their work when their living depends on it.
Don't get too focused on commercial free YouTube, which I feel sorry for people who have to actually watch YouTube commercials. There's a lot of other things you can't do as an Apple user compared to Android. Like change my UI, change just about anything I please. You are limited and you pay extra to be limited.

This won't happen. Another rumor of it coming with the 20w adapter which I believe is more true.

Never say never. I could see either scenario happening, especially with the EU keen to minimize e-waste.

I do believe that for iPhone Pro though they will ship it with 18/20w chargers. But the other thing is I also think Apple is going to start its regular iPhone 12 at a much lower price than previous generations. With a 4 phone launch with the 5th being the SE2 at the bottom, I expect there will be a much lower entry level even for the latest tech. Meaning, if you really do need a charger/headphones, you'll still be able to get your phone and the charger and headphones separately for less than you could before with it all included in the box. Or more to the point, skip buying headphones that are just "in the box headphones" and invest all your money in a set you actually want (like air-pods, and yes obviously Apple knows the adoption rates).
Apple charge less? Doing this in the interest of "waste" and the "consumer." LOL!

Quit being an Appleogist. They're trying to bilk you for more money!

Sounds more of Apple being Apple.
Yup.

This won't happen. Another rumor of it coming with the 20w adapter which I believe is more true.

Eh. I could see it happening. If not from Apple than from Samsung or another phone manufacturer. Even if the chargers and earpods only cost pennies to make when you multiply that across several million devices, it's a heck of a lot of money saved.

They have done it for the past two years in a row while removing nothing from the box.
Both the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 had lower starting prices than previous generations of launched phones. In total, between them a $100 decrease.
With that, people have already received their discount. If Apple removes headphones and chargers, buyers would still be coming out ahead compared to two years ago.
I would say I'm paying far more attention to the situation than you are, and you're ignorant at best and a hater at worst.

It also shows that you don't understand the pressures of doing overseas business. The EU isn't a small voting block. What EU commissions decide to charge, change, or regulate, can have massive implications on business like Apple that operate all over the world.
It's similar to how just California can change the way the entire rest of the country creates cars, especially in regards to emissions. So, the EU states that eWaste is a problem and puts pressure on Apple because people aren't using this stuff from the box and its ending up in landfill. Whether you believe the EU or not, that is their (the EU's) stated reason.
Apple's job isn't to figure out why there is a regulation, it's just to figure out the solutions that make sense for the company. Which generally means skirting around the problem. A price drop and separate chargers and headphones are much more likely in that situation. This gives Apple the ability to ship more phones by decreasing packaging size while also meeting regulatory body requirements.

However, I realize this is all wasted breath on you. This post is more for other people that will actually read information.

Honestly, I’d be fine with this if Apple at least offers both for FREE if a customer wants them. Don’t include it in the box, but allow it as a free add-on online, or at the store if someone needs them.

I have at least 4 generations worth untouched at this point so the move makes sense, but at least give customers the option.

I don't think you understand consumer behavior. People take free stuff because it's free. Leading to the same eWaste problem they're trying to avoid, especially in the case of the EU.

It would probably make more sense to offer either or both at a discounted price when purchased with a phone. However, I don't think that move is necessary either if there is price reductions on the phone again this year for the third year in a row.
Simply having a suggestion to buy these items during checkout if you need them makes far more sense and the same with their sales reps in store.

Well I just don't like the fact that they're so expensive and taco cnt have one; hence hate.
Can’t tell if you’re trolling.
But I used to say the same thing. Now I have a lot of high end Apple hardware and it holds up, worth the initial sticker shock.

Also resale value. Show my any 6 year old base model windows laptop that sells for $600 used now. I just sold a 2014 base model MacBook 13 for that. Easily.

I have never had a single issue selling a Apple product. In fact they have sold very fast. Probably has more to do with my trader ratings and the condition I keep my items in, but still. Good luck selling any android phone 6 months after release for anywhere near what you paid. But don’t worry, the prices on those phones drop like bricks and usually are on sale or buy one get one or whatever from carriers, within months of release.

people hate on Apple in general and especially iPhones and MacBooks. But they probably do not own them. And the demand is definitely there for them. Google and Samsung should take a note.

At the very core, I doubt this is environmental waste issue; only a cover statement.

Feel free to spend half a second Googling and 10 minutes reading.

https://techcrunch.com/2020/01/30/e...lightning-connector-with-latest-e-waste-push/
TechCrunch Article said:
The European parliament has voted overwhelmingly for tougher action to reduce e-waste, calling for the Commission to come up with beefed up rules by July 2020.
Specifically, the parliament wants the Commission to adopt the delegated act foreseen in the 2014 Radio Equipment Directive by that deadline — or else table a legislative measure by the same date, at the latest.
The resolution, which was approved by 582 votes to 40, points out that MEPs have been calling for a single charger for mobile devices for more than a decade now. But the Commission has repeatedly postponed taking steps to force an industry-wide shift. Subtext: We’re tired of the ongoing charging cable nightmare.
The parliament says there is now “an urgent need” for EU regulatory action on the issue — to shrink e-waste, empower consumers to make sustainable choices, and allow EU citizens to “fully participate in an efficient and well-functioning internal market”.
The resolution notes that around 50 million metric tons of e-waste is generated globally per year, with an average of more than 6 kg per person.
While, in Europe in 2016, the figure for total e-waste generated was 12.3 million metric tonnes, equivalent to 16.6 kg on average per inhabitant — with the parliament asserting this represents “an unnecessary environmental footprint that can be reduced”.
To date, the Commission’s approach to the charger e-waste issue has been to lean on industry to take voluntary steps to reduce unnecessary variety. Which has resulted in a reduction of the number of charger types on the market — down from 30+ in 2009 to just three today — but still no universal charger which works across brands and device types (phones, tablets, e-readers etc).
(emphasis mine)

tl;dr: EU wants a single standard for chargers as they believe this will eliminate eWaste (whether it will or not is dubious). The simplest way to side step these rules and allow the EU to have their way is to not provide them. Feel free to read up. There are literally dozens of articles on this exact subject inside of this year (2020).

That doesn't make it good, it just means there's a lot of idiots who also believe that a Apple has value. Just look at the situation with COV19 and how many states have to pause to reopen because they opened too early. Stupidity is abound.

I rarely pay more than $100 for my Android phones for this reason. I refuse to buy Samsung phones because changing the LCD usually costs more than what the phone is worth.
people hate on Apple in general and especially iPhones and MacBooks. But they probably do not own them. And the demand is definitely there for them. Google and Samsung should take a note.
Using that logic, people who use Apple products never hate them. I can give you reasons why not to use Apple products while your reasoning to use them is resale value. I've had Apple products but mostly to fix for family members. I would never daily drive one.

Cool. This is why there is choice in the market. You can buy whatever you want.
The impasse is basically that apparently only your opinion is the correct one and people with differing opinions to yours are idiots.
There are multiple forms of value or another way of saying that is there are different things that people value. Basically all you're doing is taking a shit on people that have different values to yours while espousing that you're right and they're wrong. So we'll sit and get into circular arguments that will never get solved because there will be no resolution or ever seeing eye to eye.

Thumbs up to that I guess? If you enjoy that?

This isn't about values or how it makes you feel but facts. You don't like facts then by all means tell me how it makes you feel. But the reality is Apple doesn't favor function over esthetics and this back fired a lot on Apple users. It also doesn't help that Mac OSX is ONLY for Apple hardware, despite the plethora of Hackintosh's out in the wild. If Apple were to allow Mac OSX to be installed on capable hardware then it would open up the ecosystem.

Actually, yes.

Commission welcomes industry's commitment to provide a common charger for mobile phones (29 June 2009)
As a result major producers of mobile phones have agreed to harmonise chargers in the EU. In a Memorandum of Understanding (“MoU”), which was submitted to the Commission today, the industry commits to provide chargers compatibility on the basis of the Micro-USB connector.
[...]
The following companies have signed the MoU: Apple, LG, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, Research in Motion (RIM), Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Texas Instruments.
So, no, Apple is still not doing what they originally agreed to do in the EU. They have signed up 11 years ago.
They put a single USB-C on the 2015 Macbook and later on the 3rd gen iPad. What stopped them from using it on the iPhones in the past 5 years, if they want to satisfy the EU and reduce eWaste?
And no, the USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter doesn't count as it contributes toward eWaste, since you wouldn't need an extra cable if you didn't have to use Thunderbolt.

This isn't about values or how it makes you feel but facts. You don't like facts then by all means tell me how it makes you feel.
People are getting the work done just fine regardless of your positions on whether or not you like what Apple does or whether you feel like their products are built well or not. You have your set of annecdotal evidence and everyone else has theirs.
So if we're going to talk about "facts" then for the most part people are using Apple hardware with zero issues for years at a pace that far out strips Windows in terms of overall cost of ownership.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/when-...-is-it-time-for-mac-users-to-move-to-windows/

It's your opinion that "they're garbage". Like it's your opinion that people are idiots. It is literally impossible for you to know everyone elses experiences. Like it's literally impossible for you to know IQ's of every person or the reasons for why every individual person is on a particular platform.

But the reality is Apple doesn't favor function over esthetics and this back fired a lot on Apple users.
Feel free to site actual evidence. Since you're here to give facts. Also while you're doing that, show me statistics and not single anecdotal usage cases.

It also doesn't help that Mac OSX is ONLY for Apple hardware, despite the plethora of Hackintosh's out in the wild. If Apple were to allow Mac OSX to be installed on capable hardware then it would open up the ecosystem.
That isn't their prerogative or their business model. And this isn't even an argument against the platform. But to answer your question in a way that I know will not satisfy you because you're obsessed with the idea that any and all form of customization makes things better: Apple has no interest in trying to support all the hardware configurations that Windows does. The macOS platform has been as nimble as it has been because it has very limited hardware variation, tight control, and can therefore program all of its software in direct concert to the variations of hardware that it knows its sold. They also constantly and consistently depreciate hardware and generally support hardware for 5-10 years depending on where that item fits on their hardware stack. Meaning that they know what hardware variations need compatibility moving forward and if a Mac is operating on a specific desktop OS they know the breadth of the variation of hardware that it could be.

This is in stark contrast to Windows that generally supports everything, but requires hardware devs to actually make drivers. And 32-bit versus 64-bit driver support and the quagmire of GPU support as well as all the other hardware variations that there can possibly be (although Microsoft does have it's own universal, basic set). It is a minor miracle that there aren't IRQ problems constantly in Windows, they've made their enterprise camel as wide as it can possibly be while maintaining some level of continuity. But I'm not interested in Window's quagmire anymore. Or their stability problems. Or their telemetry. Or their updates that get pushed that break things. And if you are, that's fine. But again, that's why there is choice in the market. And I have zero interest in Microsoft's implementation that I would say is far more problematic to me getting my work done. At the end of the day we're discussing trade-offs. And as much as you like your set of trade-offs on Windows, I don't. Like has been noted in this thread multiple times, even by you, people on Windows knows that Windows is terrible. If everything is terrible, you pick the option with the least terrible traits for what you do. And frankly Apple has less terrible traits for me than Microsoft (and also I use Mac specific software that Windows doesn't have anyway).

Apple has done little to stop the hackintosh community. If anything you should just consider that a win. If you want to spend your time eliminating one of Apple's biggest strengths (reliability) and creating custom code, driver sets, and mess with boot loaders, you have that option (hell, the OS is free even, unlikely Microsoft's option and their push towards desktops as a service as mentioned in the article above). Other people aren't going down that route because that's not how they want to spend their time. And it's certainly not how I want to spend my time.
Just as an aside, I spent a bunch of time researching hardware that would be compatibility with macOS and what it would take for me to maintain it and quite frankly it's not worth it. My peace of mind and my time are far more valuable than saving some money to create a custom build. And just as I noted before, if that's where you get your jollies, than feel free.

Actually, yes.
That explains a lot.

Not sure what your point is. The long and the short is the EU is creating more pressure. It doesn't take a genius to see that Apple's motivations are different than the EU's motivations. My statement merely is that they are doing what they have to do to comply with EU rules while skirting them. It's not in their interest to fight over charger options, which as noted, the EU wants to literally get down to one. Meaning every company should use the exact same charger. To eliminate the target on their back, they just elinimate the charger and say: "fine, then people can go and figure out their own chargning solution or buy the 1 standardized charger that the EU wants everyone to buy." This isn't rocket science.

My point is that they are preaching water and drinking wine.
Why agree to the changes if you will only skirt around them? Only acting, if you can even say that, more than a decade later too.

They have used Thunderbolt 3 on iPads and MacBooks for years. Why not on the iPhone? It would have gotten rid of all this issue years ago, benefiting consumers and the environment.
Although, probably not their bank account, however small the overall loss would have been.

They do not eliminate the charger, you can still buy the different types of chargers from Apple and, AFAIK, there's no way to return your old ones to them for recycling.
Eliminating the difference would equal to using USB-C or Thunderbolt 3, what they have signed up to do. In that case, there is no "figuring out" needed whatsoever.

I'm not sure if you meant to say that it is not in Apple's "interest to fight over the charger options".
Regardless, why are they still doing it, pushing Thunderbolt 2? Did they gain any market advantage with that? (Or just that they could charge more money for it.)

Also, back in 2009, when they signed up, most chargers had built-in cabling. So, switching that to detachable cables and USB A ports on the charger itself, instead of designing a phone with USB-C or TB3, whilst doing exactly that with the rest of their products, was skirting around the issue and giving the finger to everyone.

The iPad has never had thunderbolt and the reason they don’t have it is because Thunderbolt is Intel.

USB-C connector, Thunderbolt and charging have nothing to do with each other except the type of connector.

I've also experienced both sides of the fence, and can tell you that you clearly do not have a clue what you are talking about. One, Louis has an agenda against Apple, and has always had one since they screwed him. Google it. Two, Apple does make reliable products that work and work for years. I personally bought my Mom a 2009 Mac Mini, and its still going just fine with an SSD and upgraded ram of course. She only uses it for her pictures, email, and other banking/web stuff now. Those actually still sell for around $200. Good luck trying to get that much from a 11 year old Windows machine.

Android devices also, I had many, and all of them dropped like a rock after buying new. I stopped buying new ones after that. My last one was my Note 10 plus. It lost $600 by the time I sold it 6 months later. I bought a 11 pro max, its still worth $1100~ after 8 months. LG phones also are the worst to hold their value. I bought a V40 for like $150 bucks a while back and it was only a year old.
I've personally worked in IT for 25 years. Apple knows how to build stuff reliably. I work on Windows daily for my job, with servers, storages, backups, vmware, you name it. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase anything Apple.

That maybe true, but the fact remains, they control every part of the hardware, software, and design. That is why their products are so reliable, and hold their value so well. Windows laptops are like Android phones. That is the reason so many have issues, and so many are unsecure, and don't hold their value. Depends what you want and why there are choices.

The iPad has never had thunderbolt and the reason they don’t have it is because Thunderbolt is Intel.

USB-C connector, Thunderbolt and charging have nothing to do with each other except the type of connector.

Some people like the lightning cable.. I never had an issue with it. Also, the only time I ever plug my phone in these days is for CarPlay since it requires it. Although I will be pissed off if Apple removes the port because it’ll kill CarPlay in all the older vehicles that can only do it over cable.

As long as the charging cable is included, then I don't care. I never use the headphones or charger that is included anyways.

Which is still 90% of the vehicles out there. Even my new 2020 Highlander I have ordered, has a cable still. I think only Mercedes and BMW are the two that have wireless carplay or aftermarket radios. USB 4.0 will take over for TB3 and USB-C

What about bluetooth?! My '13 toyota has BT, can play youtube music and can make calls! (It does have cable for sound if some 9ther device needs plugging in without wireless.
You can use BT for that stuff, but CarPlay only works over cable in most vehicles, and ones that are wireless are using WiFi not Bluetooth.

Yeah, the cable that came with the Samsung Galaxy S8 is already broken about 4 months ago and I only have had the phone since April 2019. The kicker: the cable works fine when connected to a computer but, it does not function with Android Auto when moved. Sure, Android Auto may work initially but, as soon as the end is moved a certain way, the connection breaks, even on the phone I bought on ebay to test with. (The Samsung phone has other issues, as well.)

I'm really curious how you and others who go through cables quickly use your cables differently than others.

I mean, do you yank the cable out by pulling on the cord, instead of holding the connector every time? Do you drop the phone when plugged in a lot? Do you use the phone while plugged in, pulling on the cable?

I just don't get it. The only cables I've ever had die on me were the old Android MicroUSB plugs, and only then because I bought a bunch of cheap cables from MonoPrice for $2 a piece. They wound up (surprise surprise) being very cheaply made.

Right now, my main charging cable is the cable that came in the box with my previous phone, the original Pixel back in October 2016. Still working just fine, frequently plugging and unplugging it...

What's CarPlay? Does it need high bandwidth for video streaming or something hence the cable?

CarPlay. It does a lot of the same stuff as Android Auto.

I've never used Car Play so there may be some differences, but Android Auto allows you to integrate your phone with the screen that comes in most modern cars. Essentially the phone uses the cars screen for certain compatible apps, usually these are music playing apps and navigation apps but there are others.

For Android Auto it also integrates the Google Assistant voice commands into the car, and will read text messages, etc. Presumably Car Play does the same with Siri.

BT doesn't have the bandwidth to support carplay/android auto because to some extent there is screen mirroring going on along with audio. BT only has the bandwidth for audio and passing text for contacts/call info.

My bad on the iPad. I thought the USB-C port had the Thunderbolt 3 controller behind it.
However, Thunderbolt is a joint between Apple and Intel. In fact, Apple was the only company to use it for a long time.

Seriously?
They are also compatible with each other (TB3 and USB-C). It would be the stupidest thing if they weren't.
And they can both sink 100W, so they have a lot to do with charging.

So, if Apple designed the next iPhone with the USB-C like their iPads or with the Thunderbolt 3 like their MacBooks, there would be one complete wired charging solution for most, if not all, mobile phones.

Yeah, to my dismay though, Android Auto appears to still pass the audio via BT, even when plugged in using screen mirroring, which is a bummer, as bluetooth negatively affects audio quality.

The PC I use in my bedroom is a 12 years old Windows PC with Windows 10 and an SSD with 6GB of ram and works great still.
I use it for browsing, watching media, accessing my Plex server.

Only reason Apple gear holds its value is because of irrational customers who are willing to pay crazy amounts of money for used electronics.

The normal law of electronics is, as soon as you open the box, it has depreciated by 50%, then it's an additional 5% to 10% per month after that.

Without it's irrational user base Apple would be no different.

Meanwhile, I am typing this on my almost 10 year old Dell Latitude E6430s. I upgraded the RAM years ago and added an SSD, but other than that it is the same as when I got it. It even still gets 2+ hours of use out of the original battery!

My Fiance's MacBook Air of similar vintage - however - went to recycling a few years ago. Couldn't even upgrade the RAM as it was soldered to the board, and the drive used some sort of weird ass proprietary connector. Essentially it could not easily be upgraded, and thus was now useless.

I have several apple 96 watt usb-c adapters I would love to use.

But .... lightning.
