Just picked this up for $120 and grabbed a $5 PCIE 4x controller for it for my old X99 board. This drive is pretty fast for the money. It kills my old 960 Evo 500GB drive- must be at least 20-30% faster.

It's amazing how much technology improves in just a few years- I think I paid about the same thing for my 960 Evo a few years back.
 
Man, you must have had some bad luck because I wouldn't wish a Maxtor on anyone back in the day. I've had no problems except with Kingstons nand swap years ago, Samsung's 840evo issues and a san disk ssd rando dying 2 years ago.
 
I get the same 5yr warranty as I would with a WD Black 750 and the Adata is a little faster. For that kind of money it makes little difference.

Still blows me away how much faster it is than the 960 EVO.

I have an Adata 6000 series drive that even with a heatsink on it, hits triple figures in heat.
 
I have the cheap little heatsink strip they provided with the drive. I doubt it even does anything.

Little extreme there.....

maybe your experiences during the PATA100 days was different than mine....when getting more than a year out of a hard drive was considered decent.

I use proper heatsinks like the heavier copper square ones or the Raspberry Pi CPU cooler heatsinks.

Yeah, i suppose I can get one for a few bucks but these things are so cheap now that it’s not really worth the effort. When the time comes for me to rebuild my setup (still rock in’ a [email protected]) I’ll do it right.

Honestly my setup still games well enough for me at 4k. I think Cyberpunk will put it to the test.

Hey nothing wrong with the 5820K. I just got a good deal on a 5960X to replace mine. That has put off me needing to upgrade the whole rig for a while longer.
 
I have the 2TB version of this. Purchased in Jan 2020 while in Japan. Finally got around to installing it last week - already dead. Opened laptop from sleep, all my icons and such in start were missing, etc. Rebooted, infinite automatic repair loop. Put original Samsung PM961 back into laptop to boot off of, put this drive in my NVMe USB3.1 adapter, drive says about 40GB used - had over 1TB of data on it.

I have ten year old spinners that I've been expecting to come up dead every time I turn them on, but they just keep spinning...

I don't really feel like it's worth putting much more into my system. The only reason why I added the ADATA was that my 500GB 960 Evo was filling up quickly.

I'm waiting for the next gen of GPUs to come out before I decide what to do. I doubt even a 3080/3080Ti will be CPU limited on a 5820k @ 4.3GHz, 4k/60Hz. We'll see if I decide to go Ryzen 4000 or 5000.
