Fallout 76

$13 a month is rather steep to me for in game currency, storage stash and a private world. To each their own though.
Don't forget the tent which is also overpowered for mat hoarding.
My stash is 90% mats, I would constantly dump things only to need them later and be forced to farm. I don't play FO76 anymore but if I ever come back I am definitely getting FO1st. Would've bought it in a heart beat if it existed back then.

Where the tents really shine is when you have a team of 3-6 people or so on at the same time and can use all the tent and camp locations for quick travel.

Is there a decent mod manager out there for 76? Or do you guys just handle mods manually (there's not a ton of good ones out there, so wouldn't be that big of a deal, I guess).

Some of the gear in this game is just really cool looking.

We’re releasing Update 19 for Fallout 76 today, which introduces Ally Customization, includes new and returning events, updates for automatic item naming, backpack skin improvements, and new limited-time Nuclear Winter Challenges and cosmetic rewards. We’ve also addressed a wide variety of bugs, including many issues reported by the community.

---

Update 19 Highlights

  • Ally Customization: Give your Allies stylish new looks by sharing your wardrobe with them using the new option to customize their outfits.
  • Hunt for the Treasure Hunter: Mole Miners have discovered treasure in the Ash Heap! Starting May 21, hunt them down to claim their loot for yourself during a new limited-time event.
  • Fasnacht Parade: By popular demand, this Seasonal Event is returning for a full week starting May 25, and there are plenty of new Fasnacht Masks up for grabs.
  • Item Naming Updates: We’ve made improvements to the way your weapons and armors are automatically named when you apply new mods and skins.
  • Backpack Updates: Changing your Backpack’s appearance is now as simple as applying a skin, and you can now apply them to Small Backpacks, too!
  • (NW) Limited-Time Challenges: Unlock new cosmetic rewards by completing limited-time Challenges in Nuclear Winter, from May 19 – June 11.

I want to try building a CAMP up the side of a cliff. Like base it at the bottom, build up the cliff face, and have a patio/lookout roughly level with the top of the cliff. Anybody know a good spot with a significant vertical cliff face to build such a thing, maybe with some worthwhile resources nearby? Not sure how high the game will let you build, but I'm thinking something a good 4-5 stories tall.

I might see what I can do with the cliff east of Harper's Ferry, but I'm guessing it's a bit too tall.

You'll see mountains directly North West of Whitespings; I have my base built there. I tried to go for the "build from the bottom up" vibe, which I semi accomplished, but got lazy since I kept fucking it up. Granted, it is still on the mountain so I just built a staircase to my roof and it allows me to overlook a good chunk of the map.

Ha, so I fast traveled to The Deep to check out the area you were taking about and found a perfect spot immediately north of there. I could build from the ground up to a ledge about 7 stories or so up.

Here's a few shots of what I've got so far. I don't have a whole lot of CAMP-related plans yet on this character, so it needs some work still. 7 full floors with a partial 8th floor for the ledge entryway. Foundations are elevated, so entryway is about a full level up from the ground. I couldn't fully build at the ledge level. It would only let me place things that started at the floor, so I figured I'd make it a basic landing.

Ground level is small water purifier behind concrete walls.
1st floor is small with just stairs and fusion reactor hidden behind walls.
2nd floor is cooking station and guest bed.
3rd floor is all crafting stations.
4th and 5th are currently just open and bare
6th floor is private personal quarters with private patio
7th floor is Beckett's Cliffside Patio Bar and Grill

That's a pretty cool base, Parja Nicely done and from what I read, good spot, too. Won't be too long before I'll be joining you all online for some FO76 action.

So, should I be concentrating on playing this game? i just pop in here and there.

Parja that base looks awesome.

Despite my last post saying I'd likely never play this again, after hearing a bunch of good things about Wastelanders I gave it another shot. Yes the game is still a buggy mess (although better than it was when I last played) but Wastelanders has absolutely made this feel much more like a Fallout game. I just passed the 100 hour mark on my new character this weekend. I still have not finished the Wastelanders quest lines yet since I was replaying a lot of the original content. I actually launched my first nuke yesterday (solo) which I never came close to doing before. The scorch queen raids are fun for now expect for the fact that they are bullet sponges. I may switch over to melee since that seems to be the way to go for them but I haven't decided yet.

I finally have a base that isn't just a box and that I'm happy with. The only downside is apparently it is in a location where settlers randomly spawn so sometimes I come back and there is a dead settler on the ground or hanging out of the ceiling... Good old Bethesda.

I still have issues with inventory management but I refuse to pay for Fallout 1st which would help a lot. I'm getting better at dealing with it. I think a lot of it will be solved when player vending machines come back... whenever the hell that may be at this point.

I think its fun, most of all I like that I can just jump in and out of a game when I feel like it, there is really no commitment.
The world is big, looks good and there's a lot to explore. With the NPC's and playing on a public server it feels very alive too.

Bugs...It seems that every open world survival/explorer game I played recently has quite a few...Conan Exiles, No Man's Sky and Fo76.
I have no explanation for that, being just a gamer. Just an observation.

Also, while the community seems fun and helpful for the most part, there is a mega toxic Bethesda hating bunch as well, that seems to have made it their life's mission to bring down the game and its creators.
I suppose they have a lot of time on their hands. A lot.

People in game are very positive tho in general.

Ha! I think it is a riot that there are some people so consumed with hate for Bethesda that it controls their life and every waking minute. What does it say about a person that rather than find something to like they instead choose to hate? What is really sad is Bethesda is probably not the only thing they hate; they are deeply disturbed...

I am enjoying 76 again particularly because of Fallout 1st. The unlimited stash is a game-changer as I never run out of repair materials. Plus I can log into a private server and take over the ammunition factory until I am filled up again without worrying about compettion.

Reconfigured a bit and redid everything in brick to class the joint up...and decorated the bar (and Beckett) for Fasnacht! I just wish I could swap out the foundations for the solid concrete ones.

Anybody have serums for sale? Looking for Bird Bones, Eagle Eyes, Grounded, Marsupial, and Egg Head. IGN is Parja1.

Oh, and anyone want to team up for the "revive a teammate" thing for the scout badges?

I've been dragging my feet with FO76 lately, not much game time period but started the new stuff yesterday and we'll see how it goes.

I welcome anything new, in any game really :)

Ha, they should probably pull that trailer. Wendigo Colossus and Legendary Perks weren't included in the latest update because of all the bad PTS feedback.

Oh, and a tip for the piece of shit ammo converter...
Hit the back button after a convert completes and you can repeat the same one.

I can't believe people are still playing this. Why? Honest question. No trolling intended. I think enough of you know me well enough and know my Fallout 4 fanboy colors loom bright and huge.

My wife still plays it pretty regularly. The new Waselanders content that came out a few months ago was on par with the first 4-5 hours of the normal game. It also made some of the normal daily events and activities more fun and worthwhile.
I haven't touched it since last Fall, but I'm tempted to hop back in now that there are a bunch of new people playing.

Steam? Beth client? Doesn't matter?

Is it possible to make the game "like Fallout 4" in some ways? What was the story on the servers, private and otherwise?

She plays on Steam now, but (like everyone) we were on the Bethesda client for the first year or so.
Server-wise, she's just playing on the normal 'ol free public servers and not the "Fallout 1st" paid services. You can hop around from server to server by disconnecting and re-connecting. You mainly do that to hunt for special events or nuke strikes.
When we played together, it was as easy as just telling the game to join someone on your friends list's game. Everything worked fine.
In terms of the game, it kinda is like Fallout 4 early on. Other than V.A.T.S. being vastly different, I played the same way, but with a greater slant toward melee.
The first few hours of the game are solid and well scripted in spite of there being no other normal human survivors. The catch is that once you get to the middle portion of the map (the game has you going west to east), the quality drops off dramatically. The story loses steam, the writing is "meh," the recordings stop, and the missions are phoned in. Huge chunks of the map are just plain devoid of anything to do. At that point, most players end up tweaking their bases and turn the game into Minecraft. Either that or they nuke certain parts of the map to unleash powerful enemies that drop better/unique gear.
Wastelanders apparently fixes a lot of that. There are now survivors and the map has filled in a lot. The new story elements and events are polished, too. I don't really know the details exactly, but I guess they've made lots of PvP and Co-Op tweaks, too. I haven't played it, but I've watched her play a bit. It looks compelling again and there are lots of new things to do.

Fun with friends, pretty casual in general, no pressure to play at any pace but your own, building, exploring etc.
The game probably makes more sense if you just look at it as a open world funky survival/builder rather than a structured FO game.

Got me a clean sink, that dispenses dirty water....
Reward from the season stuff, at least now I have water indoors haha
