“The game play is fun to play and will provide hours of entertainment, but I’d like to spend the rest of this review discussing my concerns with what the female characters were wearing and my opinion on how I felt gender roles were portrayed and how it made me feel attacked.”

- A Polygon or Kotaku reviewer, probably

Pretty sure Cyberpunk lore actually has hot swappable dicks and cooters so the game is relatively woke by default.

But unless I can be hanging brain in game with a set of big ol' bappies to match as my 3090 Ti renders them in immaculate ray traced detail, I worry it won't be woke enough.

starting to be glad I never pre-ordered this game (even though I still think it'll be at least pretty good)

Yup, its funny. Each time we've gotten close I think, eh I'll like what I've seen so far I'll pre order to support the GoG/CDProject guys. And then boom. A 6 month delay and now a 2 month delay. Gotta make it a holiday game to sell consoles and video cards. Heck maybe even new AMD cpus.

"I's not woke enough! Give us 5 more months!"

CDPR
probably
That's quite possibly a contributing factor to the delay in light of the recent insanity gripping the world. Just the other day I was thinking on how the powers that be at Rockstar have probably had meetings regarding GTA 6's development and how to best join the corporate virtue signaling bandwagon. Rockstar was already getting pretty woke in an embarrassingly on-the-nose Neil Breen kind of way with GTA 5. I'm sure GTA 6 will be replete with preachy virtue signaling badness.

I understood the first delay, but I'm a little skeptical of this one. If the game is really as "done" as they mention in this ad, then do they really need more than the next 2+ months for bug fixes and the like? With this timing two things come to mind - either making it ready for next-gen consoles (which, I'm unsure if they'd be launched by the date CDPR notes. Mid-November would be the earliest possible launch date for a "Holiday 2020" PS5 / XBSX launch I imagine - a week or so before Black Friday), or they're concerned about the content somehow. Frankly, if they're delaying it to make it friendly with consoles, either current or next gen, then... I never really favor that. Release it for PC first in September, then bring it to consoles later on if there is an issue. I'm sure some will mention "you can't do that! All the console players would throw a fit!", but I remind them all the times that PC versions have been delayed for NON-technical reasons, launched months or even year(s) after the console version, or other sorts of exclusivity; practices that need to stop. If its an issue of game content, I'm not sure that's going to be an issue as big as some may worry about here. The people who are going to complain about game content are going to do it no matter what and no matter when, so I can't see how another 2 months are going to fix that.

Ultimately, if its just a matter of them not being "done", technical issues to resolve like being able to implement RDNA2 raytracing w/ Vulkan or something, COVID19 messing with their development process, not wanting to have to force their workers into exploitative "crunch" etc... that's one thing. If its specifically to cater to consoles / parity release on next gen or to give extra time for "feedback" from certain elements of the journalistic/reviewing community in favor of editing content ( I dont' consider the latter very likely), then I consider it a waste and would prefer they stick to the original date for PC launch at least.

It’s not 2 months of bug fixes. It’s 2 months of testing to find the bugs in the first place. If you’ve ever had to test software you wouldn’t be surprised. Testing open world user driven games like cyberpunk is a complete testing nightmare as the developer can’t test for user behavior.

I'm aware of this, but its not like this game has been exactly rushed out the door. They expect that on top of existing delays and the time before the original September release, there won't be enough? Its amazing how many people are nowhere near that charitable with other titles (some with even larger scope), but all right. Regardless, if the implication is really that next-gen hardware or any of the other elements are not involved here?

After all, having to test it all on next-gen dev kits would definitely add to the testing burden. Release so close to the holiday potential release cycle of new console hardware likely means adjustment for a launch or near launch title for the platforms, especially with such a high profile title. Nobody wants to be the big giant , long awaited title released a week or two before PS5/XBSX and have to content with their reviews marred by "Well, its great but I can only imagine what it would have been if they'd waited 2 weeks and released it on next-gen" type opinions. Conversely, if they launched in September months before new consoles, they could launch for PC / current gen and then come up with an enhanced next-gen port separately and nobody would "blame" them, the same way that they would if it was within the range of new hardware launch. Thus, it seems they'd be likely to invest further resources in next-gen console being within the window of original release of the title>

I think in this case the devs have earned goodwill based on the generally high quality of their previous games. That and a lot of people expect new unreleased hardware will be needed to maximize the games potential anyway so people are willing to wait.

We can always speculate or come up with conspiracy theories but that’s all they will be. You’re probably right that it’s more complicated than simply needing more time to test.

It is not ready, clearly they stated ". . . Fix a lot of bugs" in their statement. Only mistake I see is they gave dates vice waiting a month in advance to announce a date of release. A goal date is fine with understanding when done will be the actual date. The game looks extremely complex, detailed, they also stated fixing player mechanics. Hopefully they will have a decent release when ready.

I am not even excited for this any more.. I mean... I am sure it will be fun... maybe I am just tempering my expectations..

They want time to incorporate outrage feedback. Too many Black villains is racist or too few is racist? That kind of no win bullshit. If they give a cushion between press & release, they can 'fix' the randomly generated outrage. If the journos don't point anything out now, they can't say much later.

Saw the SkillUp paid promotion. Doesn't look nearly finished. Performance is unoptimized, mouse and keyboard support not working properly, buggy, less features and assets than in the trailers, unpolished gameplay/story/progression. Basically, all the things one would expect from an ever delaying game.

"It looked pretty" was the main positive impression, and that was coming from a paid fanboy.

Nvidia's ampere cards can't come soon enough

Germany’s PC Games Hardware (PCGH), which was fortunate enough to play a recent build at one of yesterday’s press events, claims that the game doesn’t run at a consistent 60 FPS and is “jerky,” especially during driving sequences. Now, this is perfectly reasonable for a ray-traced game that’s still being optimized and bug tested, but the hardware involved was NVIDIA’s flagship GeForce GPU, the RTX 2080 Ti – and not only that, the build was supposedly running at only 1080p with DLSS 2.0 enabled!

https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/0...077s-ray-tracing-at-1080p-even-with-dlss-2-0/

Cyberpunk 2077 is sure to run a lot better after CD PROJEKT RED’s QA testers work their magic, but the anecdote doesn’t bode well for gamers who want a taste of that sweet, sweet ray tracing and thought they could get away with anything less than a flagship system.

It will have an interesting reception if it can only run RT @60fps 1080p on $2K+ systems.....

Maybe there is a little bit of pre launch hysteria here?

Well, they still have some time to come correct, and maybe that was why it was delayed.

All the previews were played on a version running over the internet. I wouldn’t read too much into performance claims based on the preview build.

Just weighing on the end here, but a good reason for performance "issues" is quite frankly ray-tracing is still taxing like crazy. I imagine it will be more than possible to play a lot closer to 4k 60fps on a 2080Ti with RT OFF. And I bet that part of what we're seeing is a 4x penalty to have RT on for the "greatest visual experience". Sure, they will continue to optimize, I have no doubt. But I do doubt that they'll be able to get a 2080Ti to the point of being able to play with RT on at 4k at playable frame-rates.

That said the great mystery really is: will nVidia 3000 series and Navi 2 get us ray-tracing to the people? Because I think it's obvious to everyone one that nVidia 2000 series did little to democratize RT across its product line, as basically only the 2080 and 2080Ti had a "usable" RT experience (eg: Control). If RT in hardware has matured enough and become optimized enough in hardware, then it may be possible to get a midrange card that could play with RT on at 1080P and top cards pushing greater than 60fps in 4k (possibly allowing for an excellent >60fps VRR experience).

After seeing a lot of videos this weekend, I am hoping I can get a 3080 Ti, or whatever name is the equivalent, before playing this game. I also haven't pre-ordered, so hoping to get the game bundled with the card.

They are a Polish developer and I can tell you they give no fucks of there is outrage and stuff.

In an interview with Germany’s PCGH, CD PROJEKT RED’s lead graphics programmer Marcin Gollent revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will only support DirectX 12 on PC. That’s of little concern to anyone blessed with modern hardware, but it’s bad news for folks who are stuck with older graphics cards and/or operating systems (e.g., Windows 8). It’s also a big disappointment for Vulkan API fans.

Regarding DX12 Ultimate, Cyberpunk 2077 will work absolutely fine with all DX12-compatible GPUs. What the “Ultimate” feature set does is it allows us to do more if the hardware allows for it. We opted to go with DX12 for two main reasons. Firstly, it is the standard API for the Xbox platforms, and with the game also coming to Xbox One, we naturally wanted to have it implemented as soon as possible. Secondly, it is the birthplace of DXR, and given we had plans to invest in DXR very early on, that made the choice to go with DX12 a pretty straightforward one.

There are API fans? :D

Sure it matters to some, but not sure why at this stage with a brand new upcoming state of the art title that obviously will look its best on modern current up to date hardware.

Vulkan fan, likely means Linux fan, that assumes if it uses Vulkan, then improved chance of a Linux port.

I know, was being pedantic in a tired attempt to be "funny".

I'm 100% sure they have a Vulkan render path running to varying degrees in their office for their next blockbuster game. They just may not want to fine tune it all right now, and/or got a little "consideration" from MS.

I love a good API fan.

and still there are people saying that the delay is great because now most of the bugs/performance issues will be fixed lol...the delay has zero/zilch/nada to do with fixing bugs etc...it has everything to do with the new console launches plus Ampere/Big Navi...if Ampere is needed to get this game running at a decent frame rate then it's a huge fail

o_O Since it is being released on the Xbone and PS4, Ampere won't be needed to get this game running except on higher settings, you know IQ settings are a thing... right?

Vulkan fan doesn't require being a Linux fan. It simply means not being forced to use one version of one operating system just to play a game.

And in a lot of games Vulkan actually performs better - Red Dead Redemption 2 for example I've benchmarked Vulkan and DX12, and I get highest FPS with Vulkan (2080Ti).

There is a huge problem with your logic. CDPR directly stated that there won't be a major next gen console update for the game at launch. The game will look better on next gen systems, but the big next gen update they announced before still won't be out at launch.

Good. No compromises for people who refuse to update their PCs.

regardless on whether the PS5 patch for the game will be available at launch I'm sure that the new console launches in and of itself are going to drive sales of the game...the PS4 version is going to work on the PS5
