PS5 Release Window Officially Announced

Sign me up for the digital edition with that furry game. That way, when the furry game gets a boxed edition I can buy it and won't be tempted to open it. ^_^;

still no word on pricing?...I can't see this being less then $600...it's going to be interesting to see if people are willing to shell out the $$

I know it's ultimately not important... But I think it looks terrible. I wouldn't be happy showing this off under my tv. Why the hell is there so much extra plastic everywhere? It looks like a children's toy.

I drastically prefer the clean, simplistic aesthetic that Microsoft has adopted.

The digital edition design is starting to grow on me (though I still think it will be a dust/fingerprint magnet) and it looks so much better than the drive-based PS5. I'm surprised they didn't just include a USB-based external Blu-ray drive as an add-on and keep the slim aesthetic default. All in all, I do prefer the stout cube design of the XSX.

The game reveal themselves - nothing that will make me buy day one. Sorta surprised that the Demon's Souls remaster will have a 'quality' and 'performance' mode setting. Figured that was a stop gap solution for the mid-cycle consoles (PS4 Pro and Xbox One X) until the next gen came in with everything running 60fps @ high IQ. I see that the 'cartoon-y aesthetic' is here to stay for this generation, not that I mind, I think the Nintendo-ish looking art-styles look great.

I didn’t see that about Demons Souls having two modes, but I’m not all that surprised. As consoles move closer to PC like set ups I don’t see anything wrong with giving people choices between framerate and FPS. Sure the majority you’ll want to hit 60fps, but some slower paced games locked at 30 hitting more fidelity (resolution, shadows, lod distance etc) can be a worthy trade off.

I dig the design, but I'm not crazy about the white. Hopefully the plastic shell is relatively painless to pop off so you can paint it something else.

I'm a little torn about which one to get. I sold my Xbox, so I no longer have a 4K Blu-Ray player. At the same time, I haven't bought a physical game in a decade and I only own a couple 4K disks. They all have normal versions, too.
Gonna watch the pricing for the two models pretty carefully. If it's like $50-75 difference, I'll just get the disk model. If it's $100 or more, I'll probably skip it.

That's been done already and trust me it sucked...

There have been a few placeholder prices that have popped up on various Amazon websites. They've ranged from $499-$699 so far.
I find the pricing silence between Sony and MS to be pretty amusing. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before and it's not like pre-orders for both systems won't sell out immediately anyway.

Waiting on scalpers to promise their preorder on eBay for anyone who pays them $1,500.

The week before Thanksgiving - I like it. Assuming I can get one, that'll be nice for the long weekend.

I might be crazy but I think I saw this patent months ago or even earlier.

Give me a price and a way to lock it down so I'm not having to do dumb things to get one on/around launch day. That's all I want.

My strategy will be to just pre-order both on Amazon the moment they go live.

I haven't decided yet if I even want either of the consoles.... but given that Amazon doesn't charge before shipping, there is no harm in pre-ordering and then using the time leading up to launch to make my decision.

I have zero interest in MS's system, but I definitely want a PS5. Preferably the disk one (I want a movie player), but I'll take either.
The knock on Amazon pre-ordering is actually that policy. Loads of people essentially lock them down but end up not getting them. Don't hate the player, hate the game...I know.
I'd actually rather people have to have some skin in the game so they can't do that.

At the moment, I'm the opposite. I'm much more interested in Microsoft's offering, purely for their touted 4K upscaling and HDR being applied to all BC titles. That's a massive draw for me. Their first party offerings I can get on PC, but there is a wealth of older titles that I can't magically make HDR on PC. If this works, and works well, i'm sold. As for PS5, my only interest is in first party titles (again, anything I can get on PC, I will). The stuff they showed off already doesn't really interest me, so again we're back to how their BC looks. If I can play my existing PS4 library AND get a better experience on PS5, i'd buy one at launch. If the titles aren't improved, then i'll just hold onto my PS4 until Sony pushes out some titles that interest me.

I would really like that to be real. Black at least helps hide their stupid design a little better.

I doubt it's real though. Looks extremely photoshopped.

It calls that out in the article, and it's supposedly from an actual marketing slide from a Sony presentation.

It does look photoshopped, and a black console could be a reaction to the negative reception the white one got, and it's just not manufactured yet.

I couldn’t care less what’s in the Xbox if the games suck.

The colors are all just way too off. The blue hue on the console, the white on the controller, and the fact that the controller's black doesn't match the console's black. Even the top-right edge of the console almost looks like there is a hair of white. The detail in the console also doesn't quite match the camera next to it. And of course the fact that it's a low resolution, blurry photo which we know is a very common tactic to hide Photoshop imperfections.

I don't think Sony cares about the negative reception their design got. They didn't when everyone called the PS3 a foreman grill. The only time they've ever made a change like this under pressure was the hideous boomerang controller, and according to them that was never final anyway (not that I believe them). Sony knows they will sell every unit they make, whether it's white, black, orange, hot pink, or camouflage. People can bitch all they want that it's ugly and it doesn't matter. I think it looks like trash... I'll still buy it if it has the games I want to play. Sony knows this, and with the economy being in the wonky state that it is, I don't see them taking unnecessary risks or incurring unnecessary expenses. They already have two SKU's to manufacture with the disk and no-disk models, tossing in a black options means now they have three or four SKU's to juggle. It doesn't seem justifiable to me.

I'm confident we'll see a black PS5. I'm also confident it will be a good while after launch, either as a special edition tie in to a major game release, or as a means of generating new interest when sales start to slow.

I'd love to be wrong, because I'd buy black over white any day... but I don't expect it one bit.

Wut? You're quoting my comment about the Xbox's supposed backwards compatibility claims (which apply to ALL titles, not just MS first party). Whether or not you like MS's games doesn't seem relevant to what you are quoting (unless you think every multi-platform game also sucks).

Yeah I have reading comprehension issues apparently.

If they released this with a modern version of SOCOM..forget it.

A modern version of SOCOM would be third-person Call of Duty. If you like SOCOM, you do not want a modern version of SOCOM. Tactical shooters are a niche these days. If SOCOM ever came back, it would be made to appeal to a larger audience. It would be as much SOCOM as Siege is Rainbow Six.

I don't get it why does anyone buy a new console on release? At least wait until there are at least two worthy AAA titles on it :D

I think it's safe to say most of the AAA yet to come this year will be on them. There won't be many exclusives, but that doesn't mean the cross-gen games won't be a better experience on the new consoles. For those who want their games the best they can be (and don't PC)... getting a new console is the means to that end.

I automatically assumed everyone on H has a PC. For the general public I understand. I mean I've played two games on the PS4 that I think was worth getting a console for, over the entire generation, the rest were totally missable. And now that number has reduced to 1, because HZD will now be on PC, so I basically bought a PS4 PRO for one game. Not a great investment. That's why I'm even more on the fence if I ever get a PS5.

I waited a bit to get the PS4, I got it when they came out with the Uncharted collection bundle.

On the PS5, the only reason I'm contemplating getting it quicker, is the backwards compatibility with PS4 games, so I can play or replay those while I wait on a PS5 game that I'm excited for, like the next God of War.

Or, maybe I'll wait this time around for the PS5 pro.

I'll still get it one day.
