Has anyone found a similar monitor that's not curved?

Or whether or not it's weird to use a curved monitor next to a flat one

I have a 27" 1440p TN with gsync, and I'm looking for a monitor to complement it, I'm looking for 27" 1440p VA or IPs, and at least 72 hz so it can smoothly display 24p content.

Decent deal. I'm waiting for a 1440p 144hz 27" IPS monitor to drop to this price.

If you guys can settle for 1080p/144/IPS, microcenter (and probably Amazon?) has the XV240Y for $180.
They also have a 1080p/280hz/IPS VG259QM for $320 & is on nvidias certifeid "g-sync compatible" list but is actually freesync.

24" 1080p... while it is a step up from the TN 1080p 60 hz 24" monitors I have now, I want monitors that I will keep for the next few years.

I was watching the LG 27GL83A-B that pops up on Amazon for $350 but I kept missing it when it got restocked (sells out in minutes and lately people who snagged them have had to wait a month to get them). I'm sure I'll be happy with a VA monitor though since I have never used anything but TN.

Have used all three types of panels and for me VA wins out by mile due to the contrast vs. IPS / TN; blacks truly are black not some sort of grey.

90% of the games that I am playing today with my 1070 I would still want a 1080p panel because of the higher frame rate and the ability to eeek out more peformance if needed (graphics settings) vs not having that ability because of lack of fillrate (1440p). Frame rate > eye candy, you can't physically sense (mouse / keyboard movements) eye candy.

The same monitor will be 2 to 2.5x and in euros here in Germany. Enjoy your access to amazingly cheap hardware you guys.

I think Acer has more monitor models than anyone. I'm sure they have the same thing in a flat screen. Trick is finding the various models in stock, though the Acer store sometimes has them when you can't find them elsewhere.

I'm on my second Acer monitor now. I have an Acer laptop too. Been happy with their monitors and they are priced lower than other brands. I'm just using an Acer 27" 1080p IPS monitor. It was cheap and it's all I need. My vision is shit so I can't tell subtle differences anyway. 1080p is better for me because it makes everything bigger on screen.

Monitor arrived, no dead/stuck pixels. The curved thing is weird but I think I'll get used to it. 1440 res is great for having two things open next to each other, 1080 was a little too small for that. A lot of websites are narrow leaving a bunch of wasted space which is much more noticeable. Acer put the ports close to the bottom edge, if you don't use a 90 degree cable it is impossible to not have the cable sticking out the bottom (the included DP cable is straight, the power cable is 90 degree). You can see in reviews Acer's thin bezel is kind of a lie, yes it is thin but there is also about 1/4" of nothing between the bezel and the actual panel. When the monitor is on it looks like the picture isn't fully filling the screen. Haven't had the chance to try gaming yet.

I use 2 x 32" monitors and one is curved and it's my main. The only thing weird is looking at my flat one. It's just not as nice to look at, or as easy on the eyes. Just imo.

I had a Samsung monitor that used the same panel as this.... pretty sure Acer didn't make the panel and Samsung did. Performance was great and blacks/colors were too. Text was okay for me so I switched to my current ASUS IPS one but the colors and blacks are not as good as the Samsung curved.

I'm guessing because as they get larger you get dimmer edges from more extreme viewing angles?

No, it’s more about the curve of the main monitor and the flatness of the other. The curve makes the monitor seem further away but more natural. Whereas the middle of the screen on the flat one seems a lot closer(technically it is because it’s flat). Both at same distance from chair. It’s just easier to adjust to the curve screen than the flat one.

Round about what I was saying, just not as well as you. That said, wouldn't 2 curved monitors look kind of weird? I have at times swiveled my monitor 90° to get a vertical monitor for various reason (emulating games, reading articles, etc) couldn't exactly get away with doing that on a curved monitor.

If you are willing to stick with 1080p and want a really 'clean' picture with loads of features...and have a Costco card, go get the LG 27GL63T-B for $179.99 down from $249.99.
I just installed mine yesterday.
It has a very crisp picture and very defined images with HDR selected.
I was initially looking at 2560/144Hz monitors but I couldn't justify the higher than average price tag.
That 27GL63T-B has G-Sync and Free-Sync, HDR, 1 ms MBR and a whole host of other features.
It is also an IPS panel.
A 'win' in my book.

Is there a reason why this being 4 ms is OK for serious gaming? Rather than 1 ms?

1ms monitors in this price range are TN panels. So you have to decided which is best for your, 1ms TN or 4ms VA/IPS. Or spend more and get 1ms VA/IPS.

I'm not sure the difference, I'll have to look into it

Hardware unboxed liked this one quite a bit. Especially in response times.

I'm in the market for a new display and if it weren't for the fact that I REALLY want a 32 inch: I would be buying that. Unfortunately,Viotek does not yet offer an easily identified, equivalent panel in 32 inches. What I mean by that is that they offer several 32 inch VA panels. Most of which are curved. and they all list incredibly similar specs, for wildly varying prices. And there aren't much if any pro reviews, to filter out the good ones.

That has a 1 Ms MPRT but had a 3 Ms GTG, how's that even possible?

I thought MPRT was harder for the monitor and would always be higher than GTG?!

viotek uses panels from all the big panel manufactures but they're generally non qualified versions used for Samsung, Acer, and LG. sometimes all within the same model so it's a little hard to give a definitive review when there's a chance of buying 2 monitors and them having different panels. but that's the risk you take to save a buck.

GTG is purely in the hands of the potential of the panel and how well tuned the overdrive is.

MPRT can be augmented with black frame insertion and/or a strobing backlight.

If you watch hardwareunboxed's test, I don't recall any number getting down to 1ms. But, its pretty dang low in most regards for a VA. And sits pretty decently against some IPS.

1ms MPRT is essentially a strobing trick, which exploits the way our eyes react to a strobe light. If they run a strobe at 1ms, which is well timed with whatever is happening on your display, it essentially tricks your eyes into see visual info from the screen, at 1ms. Even though the reality of the panel itself, is different. Its not perfect. But if tuned right, it can be pretty effective.

That really doesn’t happen you can’t change panels models within the same model. The mold won’t really allow it. The same panel is used throughout the lifespan of a model. If the panel changes then the mold needs to change.

1ms or 4ms are often mistaken for measure latency but, it's actually indicative of a crock containing bull feces as indicated here:

for flat non curved screens, especialy with laptops the mold does not chance the but, LCD does change. also the glas comes from one of 2 factories in the world, i know one if not both is Panasonic. at least some years ago that was the case. i'd link the article ifi had stumble upon it randomly 5+ years ago. also 4k came aobut as they saved money on diamond cutters by not separating the 4 1080p panels.
