Budget 3tb or 4tb NAS drive?

Let me start with 1 year is nothing in terms of usage that said also questions for you~
What price do you consider budget?
Do you need 7200 rpm or are 5400 rpm sufficient?
SAS or SATA?
What OS/usage are you using them for other than "NAS drive" qualifications?

I know 1 year is not a lot but they do work fine and nothing disastrous.
Less than £100 per drive.
I would say 5400rpm but those P300's do not get too hot and are not loud, so why not?
SATA
Freenas
Main use is Plex server and file server for home LAN.
 
Well, I can attest to the fact that whatever Toshiba makes is reliable.
These drives seem solid. But what about the ones that want faster read/write capabilities?
They would have to rely on SSDs, right?

That is why those P300's are my drive of choice being 7200rpm.

SSD's seem overkill for my specific use for the time being.

Note SMR drive warning (not recommended for NAS use)

if the HDD has a large cache on such a small HDD (like 128mbr or 256mb) very high chance its a SMR drive

just google the drive your looking at and add SMR on the end of search as that will give you any SMR results if there are any (if its doesnt then it should be a CMR/PMR drive)

for toshiba for no SMR you need N300 as thats the nas version (as you have to be silly to sell a SMR as a NAS hdd ,well WD Red "non pro" got found out doing it so WD is extremely stupid dropping SMR into a NAS HDD)

The 4TB+ drives are SMR, not the 3TB :D
