RUMOR: NVIDIA to announce the GeForce RTX 3000 in August

For sure. And a used 2080ti is what I was getting at for buying one at all presently. I’m in agreement with others here that if you are looking at spending 1k and up for a gpu then wait for the 3000 series.

Money is getting tight for a lot of folks, luxury and hobby items will take a beating. Nvidia may have to stimulate their own economy, keep the buyers buying to make it good for Nvidia on the generation after Ampere. That said, going from a 1080 Ti to 3080 Ti should be a sufficient jump to warrant a good consideration. If Nvidia keeps current price structure, Next Gen Consoles are reasonable, AMD prices are reasonable it will be Nvidia that won't get the sells.

Perhaps. However mindshare is huge and the green team moves plenty of GPUs in about any market. Obviously right now is totally different so we shall see.

Side note: Anyone check out EVGA.com? Tons of 20 series GPUs are sold out. Pretty sure a bunch of people blew their Trump bucks on those.

Supply chain broken, a lot of EVGA stuff is made in China. I would expect more video card scarcity as time goes on.

Still holding to end of year or beginning 2021. AMD still hasnt release their ray tracing cards. So might be paper launch in August. Gives me more time to save up.

been slowly saving up, providing my job doesnt tank and fire me I will be on track for $1000 budget this year to replace my gtx 1080. Will be nice because then I can move my 1080 to my htpc and replace my poor old R9 290 lol

Really? Because I haven't had issues getting stuff from China. Supply chain seems to be backlogged a bit but by no means broken.

I am pretty well off and I am not buying an Nvidia card until the new ones come out and prices become more sane. I feel like Nvidia did a bit of gouging with the price points on this last gen of cards. I actually expected the mining craze dying out to have a more positive impact on prices but I don't think it ever fully materialized...

They will move their mid range stuff just fine at current prices. Their halo level products will not change much. It is a niche market in itself that really doesn't sell as many cards as you think. Generally people who don't blink at a $1200 card is not going to care about the virus. The people who can afford a $1200 gpu are more then likely not ones that are struggling atm.

That's flawed logic, a lot of those small business owners, entreprenuers etc. that blew their cash on these kinds of things are no more, or are using what capital they have to keep staff idled so they themselves are not out in the streets.

The economy may actually help supply.
I hope.
Less folks will be in financial shape to burn over 1000 on a Ti. So maybe there will be stock?
Ive been saving all my bottle refunds and Im set.
Plus my slanted logic.....Sli is dead, so I only need one card......:)
Then scrounge a 2080 Ti for my VR......

If it keeps the scalpers from buying up the supply, that would be something.

God I hope the AMD and Intel releases are on the horizon when this card launches. AMD getting competitive did wonders for Intel's CPU pricing ( from a consumer perspective), I can only hope those die shots I saw today of the intel GPU (largest ever made by 4x) has a trickle down 3080ti competitor consumer part. That would be quite a welcome to the party for intel.
I'd still buy the 3080ti this generation over the intel. Drivers.

Pretty sure i'll get the 3080Ti when it launches. If it's about $1200 or below i'll get it, or wait a while if its over $1500. Hoping to get the G9 Odyssey monitor and the new card would be a good fit for it imho. Figure i'll offer my 2080Ti to one of my family members for around $300 or so. (My computer is at least 4-5 years newer than theirs are so they get a first chance to buy whatever parts I upgrade on it)

$1200. Wowzers, you must have an "Uncle Moneybags." I'm just a poor slob working peon, so I would be happy to take that 2080 off your hands for $300. (I'm also not a gamer, so I spend accordingly.)

Currently i have the money to upgrade my computer every few years. My family members never upgrade anything unless it breaks so my leftover stuff is usually at least 4 or 5+ years newer than what they have. (I've pretty much have sold my last few computer builds to family members at rock-bottom prices...lol) Could get a lot back selling to others but family harmony is worth it. (y)

DP 2 as well or preferred. Should be able to take DP 2 and adapt to HDMI 2.1 since DP 2 is more capable. Without either I see no point in buying next gen.

Well HDMI 2.1 outputs means we can game at 4k120 right now. DP 2.0 is less important simply because the displays aren't there.

With DSC HDMI 2.1 it should pretty much be usable for everything, 144mhz 4K or even 5K should not be an issue as far as I can tell. The quality should be virtually the same. Not sure on DP 2.0 the cabling requirements and restrictions it may have.

Sounds like you have your priorities in order, good on you! I hand my old stuff down to my kids or family most of the time. I sold on here like once to someone who sounded in need for cheap, it was an RX 560 for like $40 shipped. It cost me $20 to ship, lol. Still have to figure out what to do with my old 280x.

HDMI 2.1 has its own cabling requirements including maximum length. All digital signals over copper have the same limitations.

Hoping for a new rtx card for under $300 with 8gb+ vram.
And under 120w. I need a new HTPC card.
I thought, 'surely this exists...' but a quick trip to Newegg disproved that theory...

Granted, there's very little use for >1650 for an HTPC, but that's not RTX and you'll likely want the stouter version in Ampere if you want to enable RT on a lower-end card, so I guess that's worth waiting for!

I guess HTPC is the wrong word. I have a 1650 super in a fractal node 202 in the living room. Nice little "console" for couch PC gaming. Handles older titles very well at 1440p/4k but it's starting to chug on PS4 era game engines.

Built my wife a system in one of those, has an RX460 in it now but I have a 1050Ti to swap in if I decide to try it for HTPC use simply because it's compact and quiet. She likes laptops better...

DP 2.0 supports even higher data rates (and resolutions) than HDMI 2.1. To hit DP 2's max rates (80gbit/s before compression), active cabling will be required beyond 3ft as with Thunderbolt 3. Since usb-c/tb3 connectors are also official diplsayport connectors it just boils down to what that medium can transmit.
Since there's already USB-C ports on some RTX cards I wonder if this will just be extended to DP2 support only on the 1 usb-c port, or if the new card will also support "half speed" or less DP 2.0 over regular DP connectors on the new cards.

I got RTX 2070 pre-ordered and will probably do the same with RTX 3070
Top-end cards like 3080Ti will be released first so it will be easy to predict performance of cheaper models based on their specs.

We don't really know that. We only have 3 Titan generations and the first two were legit die shrinks (16nm and 28nm) and both of those the Ti launched after the x80. Only the 2080 Ti launched first, but 12nm isn't a real die shrink, since 12nm/16nm/20nm are all basically the same process density with changes to features like FinFETs.

How much time after the release of the 3080 until a 3060 (or maybe even a 3050)? Not trying to start a rumor here, but with the increasing power with each generation, there might be a market niche for a 3050.

On average about 3-4 months after the flagship cards, but who knows how COVID might affect that, if their production is lower than usual I would expect them to concentrate on 3070/80 supply.
