Firepro S9150 for Milkyway@home

I was wondering if anybody is running Firepro S9150's for Milkyway@home and what feedback on that is. I was able to pick one up on the cheap on eBay, and it was listed as new old stock. I'm still figuring out how to properly cool it(any feedback on that is appreciated!), but it seems like it will do around 750,000 PPD on Milkyway@home. I also have a 7950 that does 500,000 PPD, so I was expecting a bit more from the Firepro based on the specs. It also doesn't seem to show the temperature in any programs which is concerning.
 
We had a forum member who was running them for MW and he mentioned heat was a problem even with 3k+ rpm deltas

I appreciate the information! I ordered 2 40MM 9000 RPM fans that I'm waiting on that I think will fit on end of the card and I can make some type of shroud for airflow, but not sure how well it will work. I do wonder if I would be better off with 2 cards, and a single really high RPM 120MM fan pointing at them. In the short term I had just cable tied a 120MM fan and an 80MM fan directly to the heatsink, and then faced a very large fan directly at it as well that seemed to keep temps somewhat under control, but it was just for testing. There are a lot of the cards being sold at very low prices currently.
 
I appreciate everybody's help, and just sent Tayunz a message directly on Milkyway@home. I will share what I'm able to figure out on my own as well. I didn't account for the PCI express power connectors being where I was going to put one of the 40mm fans, so I still have more to figure out, but even one high RPM fan seems to be cooling it somewhat okay. I still have not found a program that shows clock speed or temperature, but I can tell from how long the MilkyWay tasks are taking it doesn't seem to be throttling.

Lol that's fair. There was a post about these cards on that team's forum a little while ago and the main feedback from what I remember was just that there was somebody on Hardforum that had used them at one point on Milkyway@home.

I went ahead and created a new account, just for a few days, to use my 7950 on Milkyway for [H] since I appreciate that I got somewhat pointed in the right direction. If I figure out a good way to cool the Firepro card and figure anything more out on PPD I'll post back as well.
 
I bought a 75mm replacement fan (BASA0725R2U) for a HD 5870/5970/6970 blower style GPU to try and fab up my own fan housing. But ended up getting a cheaply priced whole EVGA 980ti cooler and cut it up to fit on that bracket plate that come with the FirePro. Then fabbed up a plate from aluminum for the hacked blower to mount to, then mounting the plate to that FirePro plate that mounts the the back of the GPU. There's about 1/2 to 3/4" gap between the back of the GPU and my modded blower and it adds about 4 to 5" more to the GPU lol, but if you run it in an open bench then now worries.

Hope your imagination can see what I'm talking about. Cause the fan actually plugs into the connector on the GPU and can be control with software.

That's all the tips I'm sharing for now :)
 
Of course those Kraken coolers they talk about in that thread seem much nicer...AND EASIER!
 
Icecold did you ever get your S9150 up and running?
I didn't, but it's probably a good time to readdress it and take another shot at it. I'll do some work on getting functioning cooling on it over the next couple days and see if I can find an AMD driver that seems to work right with it. I have several older cards that I could possibly salvage a cooler from such as a GTX 480, as well as several other fans, etc. Do you know what type of PPD it should get on MW if it's all functioning properly? I appreciate all of the help!
 
I have this up and running, and it seems to be working okay. I'll leave it run for a couple days and see how things go. I used the 20.Q1.2 AMD driver(had to put that I was using a W9100 when downloading the driver, putting in S9150 as my model downloaded a very old driver). I do get a GPU load and temperature reading in GPU-Z which is a big step up from where I was at last time. I have it running 4 WU's at a time and they take about 1:35 each to complete. I ended up cutting a piece out of the plastic shroud on the card itself and then hot gluing 2 high rpm 40mm fans in place along with some old cut up credit card pieces to make a fan shroud. This is then plugged into a manual fan controller to control the fan speed. It cools pretty well, fits in a microatx case, and all the hot air is exhausted out of the back of the card, but it is loud. Does 800-900k PPD seem right for this card?
 
Seems like a decent amount of points to me. That is just under what two 280x would get together, so if you can do that with less power you are ahead in my books.

I'll hook my Killawatt to it at some point in the next week or so and see what the total power draw is. It seems to be running really well and I haven't had any computation errors that I know of. Temp is between 50 and 60 degrees depending on ambient temperature. I have it in my garage since those high RPM fans are so loud so there is a lot of variation in ambient temperature. It looks like the price has went up on eBay I'm not really sure why.
