Now isn't this baller?!?! This is awesome!

"We hope you enjoy playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons in yuzu, and please let us know how it works for you”, the yuzu team writes. “Expect there to be minor bugs – but hopefully these do not hinder gameplay too much. We’re working actively on fixing these issues, so expect improvements in the coming days in yuzu Early Access and mainline builds soon thereafter!”

Those interested can support the yuzu project by becoming a patron here. Animal Crossing New Horizons can also be played on PC via the Ryujinx Emulator."

I just don't care about Switch emulation. None of the exclusives are at all exciting!

And as for it being an on-the-go Steam Port player, I can already play Steam games on-the-go with Steamlink on my phone.

The only person I know who might be interested in this is The Wife, but she hates emulation, and will probably juts buy a Switch to play Animal Crossng.

Oh wow, Switch emulation is moving forward surprisingly quick.
It's one of the benefits (to us) of Nintendo using essentially an ARM processor (Tegra). In other words it's more or less a known architecture that was tweaked to whatever Nintendo has done with it. Because a lot of ARM emulation has been done already, and Nintendo is running on open API's like OpenGL/Vulcan and uses open engines like Unity and Unreal, the Switch is a lot easier to Emulate than something like a GameCube using PowerPC and custom GPU components using custom APIs. It's true there is also one custom API that Nintendo has made for the Switch: NVN. But that's still a lot easier to figure out than the GameCube stack I mentioned before.

It's all a matter of perspective. If you don't like Nintendo's games then yes it doesn't make a lot of sense. But there are obviously a lot of people that do.

So is it pirated or you buy the game and play it on pc?
was considering buying a switch but for a game or two it not worth.

A lot of character and love goes into this game so I’m hoping people aren’t pirating but whatever.

One of the big draws to Animal Crossing though is playing with your friends and visiting their islands and what not. So, if this emulation doesn’t have that it’s going to be missing something fundamentally.

you would have to get your game into a ROM somehow. And then keep getting updates ROMs for when they patch the game. If you can buy it and then do that then you could buy it and do this.

this is one of those topics that while there might be a legal way to do this, 99% of the people are using this for illegal methods. Which makes me wonder if this post violates the rule about promoting illegal activity and linking to it.

As long as people aren't linking to the roms it's perfectly legal, of course this article and guides are all assuming you have your own digital backup copy of the game.

ive wondered that too after several emu posts in the tech news...

Is ROM dumping legal?
According to all legal precedents, emulation is legal within the United States. ... So in the US, emulation is legal but downloading a copyrighted ROM from a random website is illegal. If you want to emulate with the maximum amount of legality, you'll have to dump your own ROMs directly from your cartridges.
"

To further expand on that, the same actually applies to the system software in some case. Such as PS2 emulation you need to dumb your PS2 bios for the emulator to have a bios.

Nolan7689 are all the PS2 BIOSes uniquely signed? if not couldn't you legally just own a PS2 and use a pre-dumped BIOS if they're not uniquely signed?

Possibly? I don’t know all the specifics it’s been years since I’ve messed with any of that. I just know that the readme says they can’t provide it and tell you to dump your own.

No they are not. But it is the idea that you are downloading a copyrighted data is what makes it illegal, even though the end result is exactly the same than if you were to rip it from your own console. Much like movies, even if you own a bluray movie it is illegal to download a rip, even though you can rip it yourself legally.

Simply put it all comes down to semantics and I just cannot give a rats ass about this kind of hypocritical nonsense.

Sure ROMs are perfectly legal if you bought the game and ripped the ROM yourself. But again lets be honest, a overwhelming majority of the people here using / wanting to use emulators aren't buying a physical switch game and ripping a ROM of it. Trying to argue that there is a legal way to do it is just trying to find some excuse. The fact that you have to HAVE a switch in the first place to rip the game, and people are talking about using this as a method to not having to buy a switch proves that point. So this is a very gray area. If you own a switch, rip your own ROMs and use them and them alone in an emulator you are fine and doing nothing wrong. But when people are talking about ROMs and emulators that is very rarely, if every, the case. When people are talking about emulators and ROMs in most cases they are talking about ways to get access to games that they can't otherwise play due to a lack of the hardware or not wanting to buy the game (or in some cases not being able to buy the game to do region release etc...).

So while technically your post does not directly tell anyone to do anything illegal I personally would put that up there with any other act that has the intent of directing people towards an illegal act, and think it walks a very fine line.
