Bad Trade: beheo2019 with RTX 2080TI

Somebody on TPU should direct him to OPs flawless 10+ year running heatware and ask him if he would rather trust that or some idiot on ebay... Since he's asking who to blame for this.

Yeah I pm'ed the mods over at TPU to make them aware of the situation.

I will respond back once I hear from them.

This is ridiculous and I hope everything ends up in your favor OP.

Just in case you still want a copy of that video, I downloaded it and saved a copy here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nj1hftendo65n25/2080ti Unboxing.mp4?dl=0
Thank you! Appreciate it. Can't believe the original sender can't even see the address from this video.

I'm so mad on behalf of op. Most of us would kill for a 2080Ti and he sold it for a ridiculously sweet price only for it to fall into the hands of this mondo-douche.

He bought it just to flip it for profit and (possibly) got himself burned, though I suspect this is a big charade and OP is the only victim. I can't believe this guy had the audacity to throw it right up on ebay using the same picture from the fs thread here..

I think a lot of us were under the impression that F&F payments on paypal had no protection for the BUYER and protected the seller since there was no way for F&F buyers to make a claim.. But now we know a credit card and a strong dose of a-hole can get you right around there.. No more knocking off 3% for F&F buyers for sure. Hard lesson in reality here.

P.S. Is there any truth to what op said regarding his threat to file suit for grand theft? I feel like he's up dookie creek but would love to see him made whole...
Lets see what he says by friday.

Looks like he posted it on TPU

https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/need-your-opinion-here-guys.265752/

I responded to his post and pinged the Mods on TPU.
Thanks, since he's responding and trying to come clean, i want to give him the benefit of the doubt that he got scammed by the ebayer buyer. But then again, that transaction is entirely out of my control.

Went loo
I will start a thread where we can discuss this more....
Went looking for this thread but did not find it...

Screw this 100post and a yr thing. Or even 500. You'll get people who spam there way in and never participate outside of here again. Then they'll just sit on the account and claim how long they have been around.

This is for the community of the forum members. Make it a 100 posts, (2x a week) outside of FS/FT a year to play in here. You don't crap where you sleep, and if you aren't willing to participate beyond this marketplace, what exactly are doing for the community as a whole?

OP sorry for the derail, experiences like this are why I look to see whether they exist outside of just FS/FT.

Added his additional responses. Not sure if i should believe him but i am a trusting person.

To respond to the TechPowerUp thread... I originally listed at $1000 then dropped to $900 thinking some gamer out there might want it for covid stay at home and then to 850 last offer. He came in and asked for $800 which i said $800 gift or $825 regular. He took a few days to decide and sent me payment in gift form.

Honestly, if this guy is telling the truth, I am almost willing to drive out to this Steven Steinbeck's house in this middle of this and and bring this issue to his door. He lives about an hour away from me in LA.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt too, but beheo2019 seems just as sketchy as the guy who made the bogus unboxing video.
Even if beheo2019 is the one getting screwed by the eBay buyer, why start with a lie with you instead of being straightforward. Why use your pictures in his listings? Why claim he sent it to his brother then finally admit the truth after he's called out? Why wait a few days with no contact to you about a status update?
He seems like a really sketchy guy, and if he's the one that's got screwed by the scammer on eBay, that's not your responsibility and it's completely out of your hands. I would have more sympathy for him if he didn't start things off by lying.

I would seriously advise not driving to the dude's house. I've heard horror stories from deals gone bad, and people have lost their lives. You don't know who you're dealing with.

Maybe there is some legal recourse. If you can prove you shipped the item, and the buyer did a charge-back after receipt, that may be considered fraud. You can explore that angle.

You're right. My wife is talking me out of going to confront and saying its not a good idea and not my responsibility.

That's some terrible feedback inflating reviews too... open the reviews going back 1 year as a buyer and you'll see positives from j9famside.321 saying "WARNING! Buyer created return claim and sent the item back in broken condition." as positive... also jardju4 "Warning: This buyer destroyed my item that I sold to him and he wants a refund." I think that may be due to Ebay only allowing sellers to rate positive. Good reason to leave honest feedback in heatware rather than fear retaliation, imo.

I just noticed, the ebay listing only has Parcel Select Ground/Economy shipping option (the appropriate choice for junk hard drives, but suspect for a $1,150 GPU) and then the unboxing video shows Priority 3 day (see ryan_975 post). They write in description "No international and new account please." but there's a long list of countries they will ebay ship to (probably through ebay's global shipping program). This terribly constructed ebay listing and cheapest shipping certainly makes AL dude seem more sketchy, imo.

If you carefully watch the unboxing video, you'll notice that the short side far from the shipping label starts out with what looks to be a pretty wide opening and it seems to avoid being shown on camera (when video starts, it's the end near the red "priority mail" stamp). The seller over at TPU is claiming they took the original 3 day priority box and just swapped labels on it to forward it on. My bet is that side of the box got opened by someone to do the hard drive swap and the ebay buyer in CA produced the unboxing video opening the original seal side.

Report the item as stolen to the police in his city and have them knock on his door. He could of course just deny it but it would be worth him pissing in his pants.

I'd be careful with the doxing. If the OP wishes, he can probably find a lot more info on the googles about who the ebay buyer was and more detailed information on addresses and phone numbers.

Bad situation, I agree with others, stay home don’t risk your life confronting someone OP. There is almost no outcome that is good for you. Also wish I had made an offer on that 2080Ti!

So we learn to never make sells with F&F paypall? And never sell to anyone with a [H] account less than 10 years old. Anything else i miss?

You're right. Situation sucks but not work the risk for $800.

Thought it might be the right thing to do. If I had a kid that was doing this, I would want to know.
Learned my lesson though: never make sales will F&F. I'm ok with making sales to new members still since we all started somewhere. Looks like I will have to overcommunicate and include some requirements for newer users.

Wait who's in Agoura Hills? the buyer or seller?

You might actually get police to do something there for this.

I'm familiar with the area....

Yeah I made a bunch of extra requirements when I sold my 2080 ti. Had to turn one buyer down.

F&F is still fine; really after reading what that guy said on the other forum it's 100% on him. He did not do his due diligence of checking your package to see what was inside and/or testing it. He just blindly sold it to some (highly likely) scammer on ebay. In addition, I'd be pretty angry that he's accusing me of being a scammer.

The ebayer buyer - kid in his early 20s living with his parents.

Neither. That's where the buyer sent the package after reselling the OP's significantly discounted item for a substantial profit. Other than gathering evidence to get his Paypal account sorted, the OP should have absolutely no involvment with what goes on in Agoura Hills.

Got it.

So what city was the original buyer in? I don't want his address but knowing the affluence level normally equates to what you can get the police to help you with.

I don't think you should go there, you never know what kind of people they are, parents might be bat shit crazy for all you know, but calling might not be such a bad idea, probably should file a police report with the other guy (if you are cooperating) before you do.

As a buyer, I've always avoided F&F because it torpedos your buyer protection, I'd rather just eat the fee and keep my protection. But TIL that it also screws the seller. Basically always avoid F&F. I see beheo also left negative heatware for OP, adding salt to the wound.

Hope beheo comes to his senses and reimburses OP and deals with the ebay claim himself like he should have in the first place. Judging from his ebay feedback, not surprised if he tried to pull a fast one on the kid in Agoura Hills and got caught between two people who took pictures/videos. It is suspicious that there was no reaction whatsoever from the Agoura Hills buyer, but I'm not ready to clear beheo when he appears to have a pattern of behavior. Ultimately, what happened between beheo and the ebay buyer isn't the OP's responsibility.

can you do this?
OP, do you have sn of the card?

This went through the postal service. I would report it as mail fraud. You could also report it to the local police where the scammer is located.

Ok so did OP get his Paypall money or not? Or is the hole thing locked in dispute? Was just wondering since the guy who resold it claimed he is only out of his money (per the other thread at tpu)

Have you called them yet? People seem to have better luck talking to someone the phone than they do through email.

Hesitant becuase buyer started with a story first. Has my email. I'm pretty responsive since WFH. If he files a police report on the ebay buyer, he can contact me via email and let me know at which time I am willing to provide my cell # and any additional information police needs.

Yeah I don't send money, nor receive money via the gift option for this exact reason. I've only ever been burned once here on H, on a motherboard that was bad. I luckily paid using paypal with my CC, so I was able to do a charge back and got out of the situation. Paypal was zero help.

IMO you had such a good price on that card, you shouldn't have had to use the gift option to worry about fees... I hope you get this resolved man, it makes me sick when I see someone get burned for this amount of money.

OP, I'm very surprised that he never open the box when he got the item from you and never did he bother to inspect the item before selling it on ebay and take his own photos. His laziness or his incompetency is his own fault especially when dealing with an expensive item. He has to eat up the loss or proof that the ebay buyer is scamming him.

In fact you should continue pressing him on why he never inspect the item in the first place (which will prevent this fiasco in the first place) and tell him to look into a mirror first.
