RUMOR: NVIDIA to announce the GeForce RTX 3000 in August

Indeed. It's 40-50% faster than my Titan X was at 4K resolution. If you have a 4K 120 Hz screen why would you not want to upgrade to a 2080 Ti?

Because 3080Ti will be out soon? I'm not an idiot to buy a 2080Ti now.

What is "soon" to you? We don't even know if they plan on launching the 3080 Ti at the same time. It could be a 3080 launch with the Ti model being delayed by a few months like they did with the 1080 Ti.

I got a 2080 Ti two weeks ago because I don't think we are seeing a 3080 Ti until the very end of the year. It was also easy because the 2080 Ti will still be the best card on the market when CP 2077 launches.

I guess we have one of those people that cannot remember more than one SKU back...

Maybe one should ask themselves if their gaming is really being handicapped in not having a 2080 Ti? As in does the increase FPS will really make a significant difference? Now I can see a 120hz 4K monitor, extra bucks laying around you don't care about etc. in buying a 2080 Ti (wonder why one wouldn't have done that earlier in the cycle unless just got it). If not, wait for next generation for something better, that is if you even need or want it then.

At this time, a 2080 Ti for me would give me not much overall and not worth it. RT and DLSS are some maturing technologies which I can see maybe worth it to use on the next generation. I usually buy a product on the early part of a generation if it is worth it. I would not want to buy a 2080 Ti now and in 6 months it is worth 1/2 the price with faster cards going for $700 but then if I had money to waste then why not. Each just has to decide what is most beneficial to them, hell if you can buy a 2080 Ti now and then a 3080 Ti later as chunk change -> go for it.

RT and DLSS works fine combined today:

Yes in all of what 2 games that can use DLSS 2.0. In everything else DLSS is pretty much useless as it degrades image quality far to much. Your stretching reality to fit a narrative.

4 games, it should start to take off - still at this stage 99.999+% of all games cannot use it. Of course if that one or two games or more is a most have experience -> go for it. For me it is not there yet but it should come fast if not faster with next gen Nvidia GPU's. To make it worthwhile for me it will be GPU + Monitor (HDR1000+, 120hz+, VRR, 4K+). DLSS should also continue to improve as well which should make it also easier to incorporate into more and more games.

Four already with more on the way. I think Cyberpunk will make a gigantic impact on the market and those people who bought Turing over Navi will reap the dlss 2.0 benefits, especially if they have a 2060 super and above. I can already see AMD and Pascal being slaughtered by Turing when the time comes.

For those complaining about the 2080 ti price, if you already own a 1080 ti and are smart, the upgrade price can be pretty minor. I sold my Titan X Pascal for $470 and the water block for $70. I found a brand new Asus 2080 ti OC for $800 on Craigslist so do the math. Also there have been retail 2080 ti I've seen drop to $900.

Fine Wine is always welcome indeed! Hopefully by then Ampere will be better known and I can reserve mine if worthwhile then. Game is not even out, it could also be a big dud, buggy etc. If a must have . . . to be determined . . . Buying on wishful thinking can let one down.

I wouldn't count on cyberpunk being a dud, CDPR has too good of a track record and I can guarantee it will make a huge impact on the gaming market with millions of copies sold and massive media coverage. In life there are things that are wishful thinking and others that are a sure bet, cyberpunk being a commercial success (and great game) is a sure bet.

As for Ampere, I'd love for the 3080 ti to come out this year but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Well I hope that it kicks ass, I can easily play it in 2021 or 2022 :D. To make a buying decision on a future game, just in case, that it will support features well, run well, play well, fun, not buggy is to me wishful thinking. Of course I think everyone wishes for that but that is what it is.

You can play it in 2030 too. If this was some nobody publisher I would approach it with trepidation but not CDPR.

I think 1080Ti will be fine until 3080Ti is out :)
I might sell it a bit earlier before 3080Ti is out since the market will probably be flooded with 2xxx and 1xxx cards.

Nvidia will wait till AMD releases raytacing cards. I think will be end of year considering economy. Intel supposecto be releasing card soon as well.

I'm going to pass my 2080 Ti to my daughter who is currently running my old 1080 Ti. I'll put the 1080 Ti in my backup computer. Can't wait for my new 3080 Ti.

Useless comparing those, 2080ti will be 2 years on market, GPU gens used to be 6 months to a year apart.

You post is useless.
The talk was about PERFORMANCE increase between generations, go fallacy someone else.

Just want to add this, as it means NVIDIA has no need to rush Ampere:

That is 15,78% for Turing on Steam
An increase of 2,32% from Feb to Mar

That R&D is still paying off...and since AMD has no card out that threatens NVIDIA they have no pressure.

Might keep that in mind too.

They don't need to rush it, you're right, and AMD usually underperforms with their card so their next big thing will probably be disappointing.
But, next-gen consoles are coming and they will blow PC visuals out of the water.
I think consoles are going to put more pressure on Nvidia than AMD will.

Sure, people will still buy €1500 Nvidia cards, those are people who can afford and it matters not to them. So I don't think a €500 console will put that much pressure on a €1500 2080Ti card.
But consoles WILL put pressure on those €300-600 cards (2060, 2070) which will indirectly affect their more expensive cards.
And you have to keep the gears going, if profits drop by fewer sales, you have to release something people will buy. Nvidia is not in a hurry to release next-gen, no, but there's this part called investors...

Stock holders just want 2020 to end. The sooner the better. Realistic investors are sitting tight with no expectations.

Doubtful that the consoles will "blow PC visuals out of the water"...we already know Cyberpunk 2077 will have supperior I.Q. on the PC...and this is even before they launch.
This false argument has been used ever since the first Xbox and has never been true.
Consoles have always had subpar image quality compared to the PC, but yet the "myth" persist...I guess console gamers are blind to FPS and "dynamic resolution" (aka not have the power to run max settings)

The next console gen will go up against Ampere, not Turing...
And as long as NVIDIA can sell Turing and make a profit, the more than re-coup their R&D investment in Turing...make investors happy.

From Feb to Mar Turing went up almost 2,5% on Steam, so Turing is still selling.

Don't forget console is typically locked to 30 fps. Typically the only thing console beats PC in is price for relative performance.

Funny thing is that the RTX 3000 series already exists on Quadro cards. So Nvidia is definitely going 4000 series on Geforce or something different altogether.

Hell, they own the 3DFX IP AFAIK, they could bring back VooDoo. That would rock.

and lets not forget the simple sad fact, the consoles might be underperforming.. but they get the best software.. GoW4, uncharted and Spiderman looked incredible on the little potatobox - but lacked that 60fps minimum that makes games fun to play - and with the new consoles.. 60fps should be the new standard, so they have never seemed more promising :)

So, while the pc have a lot better performing hardware... the consoles get the best software... imho!

Tom'sHardware -> "Nvidia RTX 3080 and Ampere: Everything We Know" -> ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-rtx-3080-ampere-all-we-know

Some might be interested in this, some release date hypophysis, I concluded that it is a whole bunch of nothing. Nvidia is so good at preventing leaks, just think Turing, no one really knew beyond Nvidia and very trusted folks, that it had Ray Tracing Hardware until the last couple of weeks.

Indeed. It's 40-50% faster than my Titan X was at 4K resolution. If you have a 4K 120 Hz screen why would you not want to upgrade to a 2080 Ti?

Because it's a hugely expensive card at the very tail end of it's production run. Better question is why would you WANT to upgrade to a 2080Ti at this point in it's life cycle?

Because I knew that if I didn't and waited, the new generation wouldn't be out until next year. Me buying now ensures that the release will happen sooner than that (I tend to have that luck), and maybe I won't have to deal with Space Invaders-esque teething on the next gen. Plus, it's at least twice as fast as my 1080, and due to recent circumstances I had some extra dough. I'm comfortable that it'll serve me well for 4 years just like the 1080, moreso if DLSS 2.0 takes off.

Well, then i guess i should thank you for making sure nVidia releases new cards this year ;)

Who wants to guess MSRP for 3080Ti? I'm gonna say $1200.... Just low/high enough for everyone who got a stimulus check to get one.

Yeah the 3080ti will be as expensive as they can possibly get away with and still sell it. Why wouldn’t it be when the competition is your own current flagship card?

When 2080tis hit 700ish used I would be interested In one. Definitely not worth getting a new 2080ti for over a grand at this point. IMO.

Theyll never hit that, at least not new. On the used market for sure. Nvidia has worked out their supply chain every well over the years. Once you can actually buy a 3080ti, 2080tis will be hard to find.
