Windows 10 seriously!

No one designs or creates a human being to be sold in a market place. There are no expectations other than we are whole and healthy when born and may achieve something worthwhile in a given life span.
Windows 10 has been designed and developed with the intent of fulfilling the specific needs of computer consumers. It has a price tag which means it should have some measure of satisfying the criteria it was made to meet! It has failed meeting customer expectations abysmally

So what you're saying is it's human error and not actually Windows 10.

I'm not going to argue with the "no problems for me brigade"

Get over yourself, what makes your single argument more valuable than a slew of counter points, all who have used Win 10 far longer and more extensively than you have? While nothing can be perfect despite your ridiculous earlier statement the odds of Windows 10 being a useless buggy mess because one man says so is absolutely 0 while the odds of it being a solid but imperfect piece of software of which said man, not being as smart as he thinks he is, is having issues he can't figure out, likely hardware based, and is just blaming the software and bitching instead of educating himself on what the potential issue may be and doing something about it, is nearly 100%.

I've been using Windows 10 since the pre-release version and the only times it has ever crashed on me is when a hard drive died and more recently when I had bought RAM from another [H] member that ended up being bad.

Windows 7 is by FAR the best and most stable Windows i have ever used, why they had to cut support for it is beyond me, people will still use it for many many years, hell there are people still using Windows XP :)

I can tell you've never worked in enterprise IT. Which is good, cuz it sucks.

I just reset my PC it was crashing on shutdown for gods know what reason so I went into Setting and update and recovery and hit the option reset this PC. Basically it worked but had to install a bunch of programs over. This was the first time I actually had to use the PC recovering option besides System Restore which may or maynot work at times.

Why is system restore disabled by default under Windows 10? Boggles my brain.

I tried 10 when it was free. It just WOULD NOT RUN on the pc that's specked on my signature.
Did the installer not come up? Did it not run right? Were there errors? Define "would not run".
I spent hours sodding about with a dead fish, yep it stunk. I can't remember how many times I revisited and tried again. Still no joy
One thing, when troubleshooting an issue, is to stay on target. If you tangent about stinky dead fish, that's where my mind goes, and I'm not focused on your issue, and you're not. Stick to the problem you're having.
I bought a 10 pro key some time back and tried again. It loaded okay now, so why all the earlier hassles. A logical man would suggest it was hurried into the market place before it was fully sorted.
I'm not following. You couldn't get Win10 to work, then you bought Win10, and it worked. ??
The exact same pc will now run 10, but like I say, compared to 7 its a pia. So many lost features, so much working stuff that now won't
I have yet to see a list of lost features. What does Win10 not have that you miss from Win7?
I run Win 7 from another SSD, it is 100% hassle free. All the programs I paid for work on it.
Win10 maintains strong backwards compatibility with apps from the Win7+ era. Your statement here doesn't really imply anything, but I'm guessing you have some apps, which you can list for us, that seem to only want to run on Windows 7?

Not really.

There is Adobe software that's still perfectly useful that won't work under Windows 10, I think slightly older but still perfectly useful versions of AutoCad refuses to run under Windows 10 and there's numerous accounting packages that run under Windows 7 that refuse to run under Windows 10. All legitimately licenced to the owner and not subscription based products. Software they've been using daily as part of their business for a number of years.

Okay, so my webcam (Logitech 9000 pro) operated beautifully in Win 7, when I was doing a video messenger conference I could zoom in and out move my picture in the frame to the left, right, up and down. Worked like a charm. I had the Logitech icon on the desktop and if I wanted to open it to take pictures or record something. So so so so easy. And it's working just fine on my wife's Win 7 PC now that she has finally decided to delve into fb. All the picture controls that I want on my Win 10 machine are there!
Windows 10, no Logitech software is available specifically for the 9000 pro or the 920 webcam, or from what I can see on the Logitech site other webcams. You are now forced to use the across the board Logitech Capture program which has nowhere near the features the old Window 7 system provided. If you use it it has massive latency issues.

I have tried so many ways to get control over my webcam with all the features I once had when I was using Win 7.
I've done the obligatory google search and find I am NOT ALONE on this. So many people are asking how to get control of their webcams
I have wasted the best part of 3 hours trying to sort this over the past couple of days believing there has to be a SIMPLE SOLUTION, but keep forgetting we are dealing with counter intuitive arrogant microsoft staff here. There is nothing worse than having something, then having it taken away for absolutely no good reason.
So to all you geeks, rather than bang on about Linux, Win 10 or 7 can anyone help me here?
Anyone with a suggestion on how to get my new Logitech 920 web cam working better in Facebook messenger like I was able to do in Win 7 so I can zoom in or out, move my face left or right or up or down?

I've finally got my CS6 switched across to this Win 10 installation and I've got my Amazing Slow Downer for my music so I'm begrudgingly stuck with 10 now. But honestly, Win 10 is half what Win 7 was and IT didn't need tweaks to make it look half decent!
I've just tried G hub again and can see all the c920 controls but they are all greyed out and I can't use them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arhhhhhhg

so logitech down-graded their software and somehow its microsofts fault?!
have you tried manually installing the windows 7 drivers and software?
edit this thing is older than 2010 2007 too. might be time to call it dead and get something new.

If old Adobe software doesn't run on Windows 10, that's Adobe's problem. Don't believe me? Ask Adobe
On the other hand, if you have any version of Acrobat earlier than Acrobat DC or InDesign / Illustrator / Photoshop version earlier than the “Creative Cloud” subscription versions, if there are any compatibility issues, you should assume that there will be no OS-compatibility updates for said older versions.

Note someone else in that thread reported CS4 (literally released in 2003) worked.

There's a reasonable expectation that there will be a line drawn between stuff that was designed for pre-Win7 and stuff designed in the Windows 10 era. If one is using Adobe products in a profit-generating way, buying the latest version is the cost of doing business.

Note you started this as "no Logitech software is available" and ended "Windows 7 system provided." Microsoft is not Logitech.

Logitech took out the functionality in their software. Windows had nothing to do with it. Had you updated the camera software even with Windows 7, the same thing would have happened. Their website even says so: https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024843753--Downloads-QuickCam-Pro-9000

  • Software Version: 2.51.828.0
  • Last Update: 2010-06-10
  • OS: Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (or older)
  • File Size: 73 Mb
    • This version of LWS no longer supports Video Effects.

See above.

You are blaming Windows 10 for things other vendors are doing.

It is the fault of both. If Microsoft didn't alter the driver model and strip hardware layer access, vendors wouldn't have to rebuild all their old drivers. Of course they won't spend money to deprecated products, which in turn means consumers get screwed because Microsoft doesn't leave them an option to continue using the working old system.

I'm not sure fault is the right word as they didn't really do anything wrong. If fault is to be had I would say it's with the consumer trying to run software or hardware on systems that don't meet the manufacturer provided requirements.

At some point the OS needs to evolve. How far back does this need to go? Do we roll this avalanche so far that we genuinely, truthfully expect Windows 10 in 2020 to support Windows 1.x apps from the 80s? MS set a pretty fair cutoff point, and it's not like everything before a certain time broke. I can still fire up Total Annihilation, circa 1997, and it runs. What's Adobe's excuse?

In most cases, software is updated to run under newer variants of Windows, perfect backwards compatibility under Windows is a myth.

In a capitalist ongoing subscription based sort of way that many business owners don't approve of. Furthermore, Adobe wasn't the only software package I mentioned.

So you're saying that business owners, who are.. capitalists by the way, and selling goods and/or services, by the way, are mad because they have to.. buy goods and/or services.

The violin I play for these people is difficult to detect with the most powerful electron microscope.

Adobe has the same problems on Macs, it's hardly a unique problem to Windows. I wonder how much old Adobe software broke with Catalina, which is the only version of macOS that will run on anything newly introduced since it was released (hi 16" MacBook Pro and 2020 MacBook Air). Oh wait, I don't have to wonder, Adobe has a freakin' table. Note that they very much cut off products released in 2018.

Every major Windows release we get to find out who was exploiting weird coding loopholes to do stuff MS never expected and likely didn't want. Back in the day XP should have laid waste to all old software and a lot of stuff broke (stares menacingly at EA) but a lot of stuff didn't break and that's why 20+ year old titles that were coded well still work.

No. I'm saying that the concept of subscription based models isn't something business owners that do not charge via a subscription based model are willing to pay for when they legitimately bought software outright that suit's their needs perfectly - The situation's going to become even worse now that the entire globe is headed for a recession.

I also never stated that other operating system's are immune from the problem of backwards compatibility. However, there is a reason why 'compatibility mode' under Windows exists. Calm down, not everyone has to agree with you.

That's interesting. The company I worked for is literally falling over themselves to switch to subscription-model software because it simplifies deployment, licensing, and version control, and spreads out cost. We switched to Adobe's subscription service a while ago, and we are currently deploying Office365, and particularly Office we are exploiting all the perks they offer. Both of them give noticeable discounts for paying yearly, which any business owner should appreciate, as well as being a much more predictable, balanced expense, for a piece of software that will always be the newest version.

Don't compare companies to small business, this is where you're getting it all wrong. Adobe software is overpriced, especially when you consider their shocking level of support.

I had a jacket, a tweed jacket I bought in 1978. I only threw it out because it shrank and didn't fit anymore. That was just 5 years ago. That jacket was 37 years old!
I've been married just once, we've been married for 37 years!
I have motorcycles from the mid 1960's that still run and I can still buy parts for. They are 55 years old
You guys are too easily parted from your hard earned cash.
When I pay money for something I expect it to last.
I despise throw away marketing.

I'm 67 pendragon, I'm guessing you aren't going to be much over 30 if at all?
No a PC or a webcam isn't a jacket or motorcycle or a relationship. But that is not the point. I have most of the tools I bought when I started my toolmaking apprenticeship back in 1969. I gave some to youngsters starting out after I retired from the bench work.
I don't throw stuff out because it isn't the latest item.
Even MS realises that there is still some value and many users still running Win 7 which is why they have added extended security IF YOU PAY
The passion for the latest phone, the latest graphics card, the latest car etc is a slur on todays wasteful society. And those that deliberately design in obsolescence are the vandals of today's world.
You should try and judge life cycles in decades not months.
