I threw down some points for a few months this winter (needed the heat lol). It was incredibly disheartening to see a Ryzen 3600 and Vega 64 generating the daily output that 4x 2u boxen running bigadv back in the day did. The point inflation is real.
 
Yep, f@h always tried to keep a benchmark standard based on "science" done, so as CPUs and GPUs and scientific codes improved, PPD exploded. Its really hard to trace time/effort/money donated over the course of years/decades. New 2P servers still do well, my 2P Epyc 7601 does in the 1.3-1.6m PPD range, so its not only the GPUs.
