Halo: The Master Chief Collection (confirmed)

I did some reading about it last night... I can't even see how they could launch a product like this. Maybe having a 7.1 audio setup exaggerates the issue and it's not so bad off stereo speakers or headphones? That's the only justification I can think of. If it sounds like this on all configurations, the game is straight up unfinished.

It's not as bad on headphones (at least on my HD58Xs), but there are audio issues across all set ups to some degree. I imagine they were told to launch Reach on PC along with the XB1 version. I imagine they were told to launch Reach PC with the XB1 version and weren't able to delay it further. They do plan to patch audio in their next big update (after the one currently being tested).

it isnt launched yet
and yes probably.

edit: oh and i found my key, installing now...

He's talking about Reach, not CEA. CEA doesn't seem to have the same audio issues, at least not from what I've played so far.

Yeah, Reach has audio issues. Seems to be the biggest issue they have right now. It effects everyone. They’ve been working on it since the first beta.

Thankfully it seems like CEA doesn’t suffer from the same problem, at least from the little I’ve played of the first beta so far.

Did CEA beta require an invite? I have Game Pass. Haven't played since I ran through Reach back in December. Wasn't sure if CEA beta was open to all or what the timelines are.

Yeah. You have to register as a Halo Insider for a chance to get a beta invite.

So is the CEA multiplayer exactly like the Xbox CEA version? With all the stupid shit like bullet magnetism to center of mass?

I've heard they are finally beta-ing Combat Evolved for the MCC. Has anyone heard any realistic release dates?

I've seen summer floating around (June - August release window). Supposedly they want to get Halo 2 out this year, as well, but I don't see that happening. I'm sure Infinite has the priority.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is out now.
Well, that was a pleasant surprise. One thing where it's nice to be proven wrong. I guess it was easier to get this out considering a PC version already exists, so Halo 2 could probably also be released this year.

Good that this dropped. Has Reach been improved yet? Not too interested in 1 and 2 as I played them back in the day, but it has been so long that I may play them again if I get a chance. Really just wanting to play everything post Halo 2.

A somewhat graphically botched PC port, predictably by Gearbox. Hopefully 343 (...) fixes it.

Already reading that it looks bad. One of the issues is that there are no antialiasing options in the game.

Started playing this afternoon, it is what it is. After playing Reach, I would say CE is definitely less fun IMO. Less polished, etc - it's an old game. It's fucking hilarious to hit Tab and change the gfx back the original. Makes you appreciate how far we've come, lol.

Played a little bit of Halo CE co-op. It was glorious. Feels like an improvement over Reach. Sounds seem good, controls seem more fluid. Can't wait to play more.

Fun tip, press tab to cycle between old graphics and remastered.

I don't think you can buy them separate. I think you can only buy the whole collection.
You can buy them separately. There are several posts on the Steam forums addressing this. The MCC is the underlying program that allows the different games to launch, so it's technically correct to call the individual games "DLC."

That's rather odd, considering they allow you to purchase each game a la carte. I figured this was a setup where users could either purchase the whole collection at once for a discount, or pay the $10 for each entry as they're released. If they don't allow you to do buy them piecemeal its strange to have them sold individually.

Oh, regarding the MCC - I've been considering picking it up and recently saw that the 2nd title in the release structure, HaloCE, has recently been added to the existing Halo Reach . Is there any mechanic that would make it more difficult for players to unlock achievements / content / features that are predicated on older titles in the lineup? That is to say, if I joined now and decided to play "in sequence", would there not be enough people playing Reach, co-op or multiplayer etc....thus making it more difficult to unlock, given people may have moved onto the "latest" title; at current, Halo CE? I also see some blurbs suggesting certain content is additive with regards to multiplayer, with a unified queue and each new title adding content to the roster, so perhaps there isn't as much to worry about?

How they have it listed is super confusing then. To me it seems like they are all bundled together. Good to know that you can buy individual ones if you don't want them all.

I imagine the weird way they're listed is just due to how Steam treats individual parts of collections like this. The separate games are "technically" DLC for the whole MCC collection itself. There likely isn't an option to turn off the "DLC requires the base game" banner on the individual game pages.

Halo 2 arrives on PC via Microsoft Store and Steam on May 12.

Nice. These actually are coming along, lets just hope this is better than Reach from a technical perspective. Sounds like 3 will come later in the summer.

Finally got a chance to play 2 and it feels and looks great! No gun ever feels better than the BR in 2 =D

It's noob combo time.

This one always was my favorite. Didn't finish 1 or Reach yet but I bet I run straight through this one.

Halo 2 worked pretty much fine as far as I could tell. Cinematics look greatly improved. And the gameplay blows Halo 1 out of the water. Still nothing special. I only ever considered Halo to be an average game so that isn't disappointing. But you can still see Bungie had learned a lot about level design and pacing along with enemy spawn locations between 1 and 2.

Now I'm ready for 3. Been waiting a while to finish the trilogy but will also play the newer games to.
