Forza Motorsport 7 thread

Reinstalled this yesterday. Been playing virus tag class b. Is it me or did they change the tire smoke dynamics? The smoke lingers and actually travels like the wind pushes it. Was it always like that ?

Am I the only one who misses Camino veijo? I remember playing the fm3 demo until I could afford the full game in my first semester of college. I don't know why they didn't continue with that track.

There are a lot of old tracks I miss. I can understand not bringing real life tracks forward due to licensing, but why kill off your own fictional ones?

I remember bringing this up on the official forum a long time ago, and a dev replied by basically saying people didn't use them enough to justify keeping them. Big data, I feel, is killing the game industry on more than just this one point. It's the opposite extreme of design by committee.

virus/tag seems to be gone from the MP hopper for at least PC. Can you guys confirm it is gone and if you are running PC or XBONE?

if they don't bring split screen to PC for the next installment, I won't be buying it. I just don't need another 'single player' racing game.

Split screen on the PC? I'd bet that split screen on the console is rarely used already.

I just want more cars, more tracks, more realistic and advanced tuning opitons, better online multiplayer.

I especially would like some of the older nostalgic tracks that have gone away. I miss some of the ones that were based out of Japan. A few of them did make a return in FM7 thankfully, but others like the Fujimi Kaido did not. My only other gripe is that some of the cars still don't sound like the real thing. It sounds better than ever before, but it still sounds synthesized.

I purchased the game, because in another thread it was said that it is better than Gran Turismo

TLDR: It isn't

It's not even playing in the same league. The physics are very weird and detached. Like the cars are dragged around on strings. The difference between super easy and simulation is almost nonexistent. Everything seems to be an on off switch within the physics itself. It's the weirdest thing. The wheel lock seems to be changing when you use the brakes or accelerate, and it's not a granual feeling of under / oversteer, even if you just feather the brakes, the car suddenly jolts to a tighter trajectory.
There is no neutral gear (this is really weird) And even paddle shifter cars act like H shifter manuals if you enable manual clutch in the game.
Not that it is worth enabling because it is implemented worse than in Gran Turismo6, which is a feat in of itself.
There is no granularity to the physics, you have all the grip in one moment like driving on rails, then suddenly as if a switch is flicked it becomes like driving on ice.
Which reminds me that driving in the rain doesn't feel any different in the game than driving in a sunny dry afternoon. You can apply full throttle in torrential rain in 600+ HP GT cars with every assist turned off and you get zero wheelspin.
Even Forza Horizon 4 had better physics than this, much better.

I mean the game is easier to play with a keyboard than with a wheel, it should be the other way round with a racing game.

The game is not hard, it's easy to get the hang of it, but since it doesn't even remotely resemble the feeling I'd expect from driving I just can't be bothered to waste my time with it. I'm not having fun at all.

Oh and FFS, shoot the person who decided you have to set all graphics options to ultra one by one in the advanced menu. And there is one more thing, the menus are terrible, the mouse only seem to work intermittently in it, and the keyboard too. Sometimes you can navigate with the mouse just fine, sometimes with the arrow keys, sometimes with the [brackets] as the game shows, it's like a lottery, which of the three will work this time around.

And it's a freaking 100GB download on the MS Store, which is a snail all the time.

There are things that FM does better then GT and things that GT does better then FM. Its a give and take. Now im not willing to buy a PS to play a single game. If GT comes to PC then id buy it but i doubt itll happen. Until they get PS4 emulation 100% working right for GTSport i cant take that route either.

I will say that Horizon titles are what i would say is way more casualized and easier then FM titles. PG takes the FM engine and tames everything down and changes stuff and in the case of FH4 fucks up alot of things like sounds. I have had FH4 uninstalled for a while and still have and play FM7. I do still play FH3 as i have the developer version and can make the game more realistic and how i feel it should be by editing the database.

Turn10 just mentioned a few weeks ago that FM8 has been in development for a while and is going to be a ground up game with alot of things redone like suspension and tires being named among others. Maybe we will get a glimpse of it in the upcoming E3 to see more.

I left the Gran Turismo franchise after GT6 and have never looked back.

GTSport is not Gran Turismo anyway, it has no career mode, no buying / selling of cars, it is all built around Esports, and it's no good for much else. You'd be better off trying to emulate PS3 and GT5/6.

Easier but still truer to reality, which shows the depths of the problem with FM7.

After FM7 I say I'll believe it when I can try it.

That's a weird thing to say. Like: I quit watching Lost after the finale!
GT6 is the last entry to the series that actually has a gran turismo mode.

better than GT "in his opinion". could have d/l'd the demo...
What demo? Only Horizon 4 has a public demo in my region. But I already finished that game with game pass.
I never in my wildest dreams would've guessed that the 'pro' game will have worse physics than the casual one.

you are the only person ive ever seen say that Horizon has more realistic physics then Motorsport.

I've been a driving sim fan since the early nineties. I spent hundreds of hours playing LFS, GT Legends, GP Legends, Project Cars, Assetto Corsa, Rfactor, and a dozen other racing sims, so yeah, I'm confident in my ability to judge which game has better physics. More difficult doesn't automatically equal more realistic.

I think M76 is being a bit dramatic (as usual ;) ) but I agree that FM7's physics suck once you've gotten used to pretty much everything else. The biggest problem is the way it turns into a drift fest every time you break traction even a tiny bit like mentioned above. I dunno about FH4 being more realistic though... I think it's just that the grip is generally higher so that problem is greatly reduced. I do think FH4's driving model, whether it's technically more realistic or not is more fun than FM7.

Btw my biggest on-going annoyance with the FM series (in terms of physics) is the transmission modeling. Every single car acts like an h-pattern shifter with clutch, just with more or less time between shifts depending on the "type" of transmission. They are SO behind the times on that.

I still think the pinnacle of the series might be FM4 with FM6 being a very close second. I miss the additional fictional tracks and the groupings that encouraged trying new cars, modding and tuning them.

I feel like at this point the FM series ought to go just race cars at this point and let FH have the street cars with mods and tuning and combination of real world and fictional environments.

never mind, i guess they changed it from a demo to a trial and its now gone.

I agree about the transmission modeling. I'd take a more tightly curated and smaller list of cars if every one of them were accurately modeled with their real life options.

Enthusia Professional Racing had accurate transmission modeling.
On the PlayStation 2.

I got tired of all the broken an unfulfilled promises from Polyphony Digital and Kaz. The game updates were largely boring, downloadable contents were pretty much just new variants of the Nissan GT-R. I had been frustrated every since Gran Tursimo 4. I really like the HUGE selection of cars up to Gran Turismo 6, but they've purged a ton of cars I really liked driving with Gran Turismo Sport.

I took a lot for me to get to this point with Playstation and Gran Turismo. I had played every Gran Turismo from GT1 to GT6 up until that point.

Viper Racing had an accurate clutch model 22 years ago. That game was at least 10 years ahead its time as a sim racer, but for some reason everyone thought it was an arcade game.

I loved that game... yes it was WAYYY ahead of its time in physics.

Would you mind explaining this in a bit more depth?

I can't think of a way to make that any clearer than it already is. It means that cars with semi automatic and automatic transmissions switch gears exactly the same as a manual. It uses the exact same model for all types of cars. And even that one implementation is not an actual physics based model, but a fake approximation it seems to me.

Are you talking torque interruption time between shifts?

I honestly don't understand where the difference is that you are seeking.

Yeah im not understanding him either. As someone whos on the Turn10 feedback team i cant relay this.
If you ever driven a car in your life you should know there is a huge difference between automatics ( with torque converter) sequential dual clutch transmissions and manual H shifters with clutches.
In FM7 there is zero difference.

Are you talking torque interruption time between shifts?
That's part of the problem too.

You don't think there is a difference between driving a manual and a sequential? Because in FM7 there isn't.

Well obviously the sequential has to shift sequentially, are you missing multiple gear downshifts like a 5th to 2nd or something?

An example of my issue is the C7 Z06. Both automatic and manual use the 8L90 in the game and shift the same way, except one goes through the gears automatically and the other manually. When selecting the manual we should get the TR6070 with its shifting characteristics while selecting auto or semi-auto gives us the 8L90. Similarly, the ZL1 should be the TR6060 with a manual and 10L90 with auto or semi-auto.

As far as physics we gave some older examples earlier in the thread. Out of the games I've played Project CARS and Project CARS 2 give a much more realistic feeling in transmission physics than Forza ever has.

What game out there accurately simulates these things for you with realistic physics?
Accuracy is not a 0 / 1, it's a scale, some games do it better, some worse, and on that scale FM7 is at the bottom completely, GT6 is slightly better, but still on the lower end of the scale as far as transmission model goes.
About any sim racing game does it better, like project cars, assetto corsa. But you don't have to go to simulations. Games like Test Drive unlimited NFS Shift 2 do a decent job as well.
And if you specifically seeking something that gives back the difference most accurately that's BeamNG on the PC currently. Which is still an early access title, and hard to call an actual game, more like a tech demo.

But I will say this: If you don't understand the problem with FM7's transmission modeling then FM7 is probably the right game for you and not the ones I listed above.

Go play those games then. Your over dramatic condescending attitude is already getting old.

Youve voiced your opinion and how you feel the game is terrible. We get it.
