While I question the necessity of 240fps I can say only one word: PC (Yeah I know it is technically two words)

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismos-future-4k-resolution-is-enough-but-240fps-is-the-target/
“Rather than a spatial resolution that you’re talking about, I’m more interested in the advancements we can make in terms of the time resolution. In terms of frames per second, rather than staying at 60 fps, I’m more interested in raising it to 120 fps or even 240 fps. I think that’s what’s going to be changing the experience from here on forward.”

Because I've been wanting a GT style game on PC for 22 years.

https://hardforum.com/threads/gran-...ates-for-ps5-instead.1993131/#post-1044499138As I said in the above thread, high framerates would be very handy in the age of VRR, not to mention improvements to IQ and input response. Low frametimes on a console? I would love to see the consoles leaving their usual framerate restrictions far behind. I was already grateful for what XB1X and PS4 Pro were able to bring. It's way too early to be pursuing 8K when even PC hasn't gotten there yet. Checkerboard rendering only gets you so far.

I'm glad Forza made it to PC, would like to see GT do the same.

Forza motorsport is about as close as you get. Personally I think its better but that's opinion.
On the whole I've tended to like the Forza series more than the GT series.

Im sure they'd be able to do that, knowing them it will just take 25 years and 15 paid 'prologue' demos to get there.

We've already been waiting 7 years for a real successor to GT6, what's another 18 if they actually have a good single player mode.

Gran Turismo developers must not believe in cloud gaming since it's limited to 60fps.
Well how many console gamers have tvs with 120-240hz refresh rates? I think as nice as the feature would be, it wouldn't be targeting their mass audience.

But someone has to push it right? It was the software before, game came out but couldn't run at full settings on the latest video card, next year new card would come out that could do that and more. We need these industries to go back to that instead of just finding one thing to stagnate at. No not everyone will need such a thing, but we here are all about pushing for more.

It is the same chicken an egg that VR struggles with. No one wants to make a killer game for something not many own, and people don't want to buy hardware when there aren't any killer games. I know it makes sense from a market perspective, but it still sucks.

Glad these devs are trying to go above and beyond, hopefully they can and don't get beat down by their management and publishers.

The vast majority of console gamers are on a television that will never be able to do more than 60fps. It isn't just the console hardware - it's the monitor, too.
HDMI 2.1 alleviates some of that, but adoption has been slow across the board. While it's cool that he wants this, this isn't going to be reality for a while. At least on the console side of things.

Polyphony Digital wants 240fps for the 6 cars, all GTR's, that will be the only thing available in their next game release for at least 6 months. There will be no sound except menu music and you will have to pass online racing license trials before you are allowed to play. They will act surprised, but indifferent, when it doesn't sell as well as expected.

Because people started freaking out if a game doesn't run at full settings on their current PC.

Devs are between a rock and a hard place. If the game runs at 60+ fps: "this game is not innovative, why didn't you add more features!!!!" If it runs at 30fps on the latest hardware: "This is Unoptimized garbage!!!"

They could do something like fast sync for slower displays.

Grid size in GT5 = 12
Grid size in GT6 = 16
Grid size in GTS = 20

Yeah... I don't know what happened to Polyphony over the years. I probably put hundreds of hours into GT 3: A-Spec on PS2 back in the day. GT used to be THE game to get excited for with every Playstation console, but now I haven't cared about a GT game since forever. I remember the forever delayed Gran Turismo for PS3 and then when it released the shit had like 10 tracks and 15 cars or something... it was severely gimped and I felt so disappointed thinking I waited all that time for this?

I remember now... Polyphony released Gran Turismo HD for free since the games were taking so long... then they release Gran Turismo 5 Prologue which was an even bigger teaser but that you had to pay for and then 3 years later GT 5 finally released. I looked up the timeline on Wikipedia and I can't believe how crazy that is. Demo in 2006, another larger demo they charged for in 2007, and then 3 whole years later they released the full game.

PD finally got their console-based iRacing clone game, which is what they had always set out to create if you read-between-the-lines....with online leagues and championships, nothing but race liveries, they never wanted to make casual racers like Forza (motorsport or Horizon), they just had to in order to fund the deeper pursuit.

I remember when the public was angry that they weren't paying any attention to AI and engine sounds and, my god, in-car dashboards....their answers were either curiosity or evasive, I remember once someone from PD (assuming it was Kaz) suggesting that the internal cockpits weren't meant for you to 'race from' they were there to be admired, the detail they put into every finish, every reflection, every modeling effort, and he didn't understand the issue with "AI" since you were really racing against the track and why were you not racing online against other people, or the issue with sounds....they seemed genuinely perplexed that people were not satisfied with those generic engine sounds. This is your typical Japanese Developer Mentality (see: Metal Gear Anything)........and that's when I noped-out on that series.

I digress, its a virtual racing league simulation game now.....I own the new one because it was only $10 bucks but within about 15 minutes of booting it up I realized it was the same old GT game....felt like stale AI going around some familiar tracks and I'm not the online racing league stats-tracking type. I watch SuperGT do that, but it's not something I personally want to grind away at in my real life, I'd prefer the more forgiving and chaotic Forza Motorsports implementation that are more about walking the line with SimCade style racing.....or Horizons more Project Gotham Racing inspired driving.

Probably right. Where as before we used to think "omg imagine what this game will look like when I get my new card!!!!" It used to bring new life to games when you upgraded. Even console tried it, n64 expanded memory haha.

Yeah.....they just added Laguna Seca To GT Sport, only about 3 months ago. Imagine shipping a racing game without one of the absolute bechmark tracks in existence?!

Pity because Gran Turismo 6 was fantastic. Gran Turismo 4 is still one of my favorite car games ever alongside Forza Motorsport 4. GT6 would supersede GT4 for me if it had deployed a similar career structure.

Licensing issues plus it's a Japanese game. How many Americans are clamoring for Autopolis, Ebisu, or Okayama to come to Forza?

Laguna Seca is not that well known outside the US. I don't think any major international series has an event there.
What is worse is that GT Sport doesn't actually let you drive the Nordschleife before finishing some stupid gatekeeper series.

SBK is the only international series I know that still races there. What is ironic is that the current layout that the track is famous for was made to fit FIA requirements. This is the original layout:

I miss the old Gran Turismo games. The first Gran Turismo got me into car culture. I loved the idea of taking a regular street car, beefing it up, and making it into something special. I was really disappointed when I bought a PS4 and found out that they pretty much gutted the upgrade system. Instead of adding a Turbo and tuning it, you just have a generic slider. I know the end product is pretty much the same but it just feels different and not in a good way.

I actually had the same reaction. Loved gt1 and gt2. Was fun when you owned a car in the lineup and you could tune and tweak.

This was one of the reasons Sega GT was my favorite racing game, I probably played that game longer than any racing game!
The 1st GranTurismo game I had on the PS1, all I remember was how BAD it looked. Can't remember what version it was 1 or 2. Quickly abandoned that and went back to Sega GT on the Dreamcast.
I also liked PGR4, the only thing missing was tuning cars, but gameplay was fun.
I had GT5 in the PS3, but it was so underwhelming, no burnout smoke clouds or effects at all on split screen, bought Forza 4 and it was a much better game and I played the heck out of it (OP 4WD GTRs are nuts lol!).

If you guys have a hankering for some GT-like racing on PC, go download Forza Apex for windows 10.........its free, and its basically the PC version of Forza Motorsports 6, although a smaller, neutered game......still, it's free.

OK.....as I said, Laguna Seca is a literal benchmark track. Porsche, Dodge, etc, run lap times on the track to prove the performance of their cars. Specifically, beating Porsche 911 lap times, is the initial goal. And Its been in GT since Gran Turismo 2. The track is known and loved by GT players, worldwide.

I really wish GT would come to PC. It would put Forza devs in check cause they are getting quite lazy.

Now I know never to take advice about racing games from you lot.

Benchmark tracks are places like Nardo and Weissach. Laguna Seca is a writer for magazine articles.

I think Gran Turismo bridged the gap. Back then you had games like Cruz N USA, Mario Kart games, and Need for Speed on one end of the specturm. On the other end you have the Nascar and F1 sims. There wasn't anything in the middle. Gran Turismo was great because it took the best of both sides. It was arcade-ish and sim-ish but not enough to call it either or. It tries to hard to lean to the sim side now. Forza is closer to the old Gran Turismo games than Gran Turismo is now.

OK well various brands actually use the track for R&D and benchmarking. Regardless of how great other tracks are.

Elon Musk was recently accusing his staff of corporate espionage, in September. Because, one day after they set a 4 door sedan Laguna Seca record, Porsche beat it with the Taycan.
A few years ago, Dodge was very happy to report that a street version of the Viper was consistently doing faster laps than a relevant 911. ~Among many many other examples RE: Laguna Seca testing.

My favourite part was the generic passenger cars and similar that your relatives owned IRL, you could race them and make them faster. 700 cars or so in GT2 from memory. I think the back of my old GT2 or GT3 copy basically said 'we stuck a mic up the exhaust pipe of almost every car'. The GT2 disk also was scratch and sniff, so you could rub it and smell an oily rag...
That attention to detail is gone it seems and thus GT is absolutely dead to me these days.
