I am quite sure they already have a fully working engineer sample under safe keeping. These companies have the next 5 to 10 years of products already developed. Just like 1st world governments i.e. US and most of Western Europe, AU, etc... have 20 years advanced tech over the populace under them.

My uncle worked for a decade or so engineering things for the government/military. This was about 45 years ago at this point. Virtually nothing he's worked on can be spoken about still to this day. I think the only thing was some early drone technology, but even that was 30 years after the populace became aware of them.
