Hey guys,

first post in forever! I just upgraded to a 3600 for my main rig and put a 2600X in my daughters machine. I installed a hyper 212 evo on it and it seems to idel @ 31-33c and routinely spikes to 42c+. Does this sound normal?

What are good gaming temps for this setup? She plays fortnite, minecraft and Sims.

Thanks for your help!

yeah the temp bounces like that normally. what you can do to prevent the fan from spinning up and down is to set a custom fan curve. figure out what the max temp for the blips is and then set your fan to only ramp up after a couple degrees above that. so id set it at like 25-30% until it hits 45c and then ramp up to 100% at 70c. you can play with it to tune it to you temp/noise preference. decent temps are mid 60c. the chip will start throttling at ~90, if i remember right.

Like mentioned it's very normal for the temp to spike very quickly on Ryzen 3000 even in light load situations. Some boards are also overvolting them at default settings do make sure yours is set to the right voltage.

Thanks for the reply guys! I cant seem to find the specced voltage for this cpu? 2600x. Its not on the box or in any of the literature that came with it. I checked the AMD site and it shows everything but.

in my mobo bios it says 1.187 but runs it at ~1.41. so i set an - offset of .05 to bring it down a bit. i havent tried to see how far down i could get it though...

42C is comfortably cool. Don't even think about it until you get to the mid 70C or above.
31-33C idle is about right. I get 32-34C at idle with the stock AMD wraith cooler on a 2700X

Most of the time......
I just use Ryzen Master to set different profiles.....then set one depending on what I'm using the system for at the time.
For everyday use, I just set one profile to drop cpu voltage to around 1.1v and that keeps temps down to around 38C for workstation and everyday Internet use etc.
Then if I want to run a simulator, Blender or some other cpu intensive app I change to profile 2 which is set to AUTO and can go as high as 1.5v peak. Highest peak temp I ever saw was 71C for just a few seconds. usually around 55-58C

I thought my air was enough until I bought the Corsair 220 T and used there H100i Platinum water cooler on my 3600 as now Ryzen Master offers me auto overclock to 4.4Ghz and as stated it can push almost 1.5v doing so .
