Apple quietly reduces trade-in value for iPhones, iPads by up to $100

It's Apple and an Iphone, not a high end useful gaming computer.

Go to GameStop and sell your used crap there then try to complain about these prices.

Come on guys, apple has to do something to build profits. Stock buybacks won't work forever.

honestly who the f trades in a device and doesn’t sell it privately...

a surprising amount of people i talk to are totally afraid of getting murdered or ripped off trying to do a private sale online or otherwise- you know, morons. or so lazy they just walk into the apple store and waste their money- again morons.

I would never sell my used electronics on Ebay ever again.
Their 30 day money back guarantee is HEAVILY skewed towards buyers, even with evidence.
I sold old E-350 netbooks and people would return them without the power cord, missing RAM, missing HDD, missing all screws, and I was stuck with a shell with a keyboard and screen that I was trying to get rid of in the first place and lost money(I payed shipping both ways).

They could literally buy a hardly used iPhone, unbox it, replace it with an older iPhone, open a case and start a return saying that the "Item was not as described", send the "iPhone" back, receive a full refund AND keep the new one. Ebay sides will buyer because they believe the evidence provided by the buyer showing the "old iPhone" in stead of the one actually received. Seller gets screwed. It's like buying the item for someone else, but without the feel good feeling lol. Buyer gets payed to receive iPhone.
Selling for cash is the only way to go now.

Super meh on iphone. I know it's a rock solid product. But newer versions of android have much better networking features, including but not limited to wired ethernet adapter support.

Agreed, the buyer is almost always right policy prevents me from taking the effort. Not only do you risk the buyer stealing parts or breaking the electronics making it worthless you end up paying for the shipping.

ebay does do this. they really screw sellers because they are competing with amazon and try to keep the buyers safe, ebay is dead to me as a means to flip items. i recommend swappa, it tracks serial numbers in listings so what you described cant happen.

Hopefully no one here was hoping for a good trade in toward the iPhone 12. They are really going to rape their own loyal customers arent they? Sad do to be an Apple user(me).

Some of these are REAL bad, the iPad Pro trade-in value dropped by $70. wth Apple???

With few exceptions, you're better off just selling the phone and using the cash to help pay off the charge on your phone. The trade in value is always pretty awful.

The same people who finance $1000+ phones on a near minimum wage, I'm sure.
If you do that through a carrier, unless something has changed recently, you pay the 1000 over the term of the contract with no interest. I haven't been involved on that end in 5 years, but back then Apple would not allow companies to charge interest. As long as you hold onto the phone for a few years beyond the contract, it's not horrible. I typically hold mine for 4 years or more. Of course I pay 100% up front, because if you leave the country, you probably don't want to roam on your plan. Prepaid sims over seas are dirt cheap, while roaming on your plan is insanely expensive (or if you have T-Mobile, stupid slow).

When I went to the 11 Pro Max, I sold my old Xs Max for $400 less than it cost me for the new one :D

$1000 is insane for a phone. i love apple, but i stay a full++ generation behind and its fine. that being said if you can afford it i think enjoying expensive shit is awesome.

I don't have an issue with financing in general and if it's 0% you might as well do it in most cases, but am always just entertained by seeing people barely scraping by otherwise still buying these exorbitantly expensive phones because the carriers let them finance it over the course of up to 3 years. I was just saying the same people financially inept enough to finance one when they're struggling with other financial responsibilities are the same ones willing to get screwed over by their trade-in program instead of selling the phone privately too. My previous neighbor who was divorced with 3 kids getting no child support and working as a bank teller buys the newest and most expensive iPhone every single year. Also my broke-ass bro in law with no drivers license or high school degree and near-minimum wage job somehow gets new Note phones every year too. Half the time you see kids working at McDonalds and other fast food joints with these newer iPhones too.. it's just a bit crazy to me.

I get that and it's not something I'd do, but for a lot of people working those jobs, that is their phone, their DAP and their PC. That said, I never go a year behind, but I have bought aftermarket phones, typically 3-6 months after the release. The firs ttime I did that was with an iPhone 6 and I bought a new one with the max storage (128gb at the time) for just over the price of that phone with the least about of storage. Just gotta be paitent. But i do admit that for my XS max, I bought it at launch. I doubt I'll do that next time. I'll just wait 6 months and save a few hundred bucks.

It is true though, a disproportionate amount of poorer people I know spend the most on expensive cnc alu apple trinkets.

Yup, for the most part at least for ones who are working still, the reasons the poor are poor is because of misuse of whatever income they do have. They either spend their money on dumb shit like these new phones or alcohol, gambling (including lottery), cigarettes, fast food every day, or whatever overpriced name-brand crap they're into for clothing and apparel.

My wife's parents make at least 60k/year with my FIL's job and they're completely broke and/or in debt at all times because they constantly blow their money on a few of the things I listed above, plus my MIL is obsessed with thrift store shipping to add to the piles of junk they already have in their house where they they don't have working appliances or running water in because the main water valve broke and they're too broke to get it fixed or embarrassed of their house (where they have cats and dogs constantly pissing and shitting everywhere inside) to let anyone in to fix it. They don't even have a car or house payment and somehow blow all of his money on dumb shit every single paycheck and have absolutely nothing to show for it.

Dude, If I could make 60k with no house payment...... That would free up almost $1000/month.

I traded in my iPhone XS Max for 600. At the time on swappa and marketplace they were going for less. Right when the 11 max pro came out.

I’m smart enough to do the math. Guaranteed easy cash. And if you’ve ever bought any Apple products you know they don’t go on sale 2 weeks after release if ever.

in my case, it made much more sense to trade in directly to them. But if you do the research and you think you will make more privately be smart and do it that way.
