Godaddy $0.99 domain transfer

Or you just transfer between GoDaddy and namecheap every year when they run these specials. TBH none of the registrar deals for getting a domain have ever been for more than a couple years. Usually it's a cheap one year term then full price thereafter, you can never get that initial deal on multi-year registrations.
 
i think i finally went with Ghandy but, i didn't really save much money over G Daddy. However they can be contacted via email, IRC pretty quickly etc etc
 
That's what I do. I transfer out from one registrar to the other every year if I can find those elusive discount codes. You can also just make a new account each year and you're a new customer all over again. Godaddy likes to close accounts that have been dormant for a few years. I have multiple accounts. The discount code I posted actually can be applied for multi year subscription but appears to be logarithmic with each succeeding year. I signed up for two years for ~$11. It's $0.99 for one year. I figured I would splurge this time around. It's $17.99 normally per year.
 
I use PorkBun for all of my domains these days, they tend to have a deal on the first year pretty often, then very reasonable prices thereafter.

I used to use Hover but they started increasing their prices quite a bit, so I moved away.
 
dyn had a great price for 5yr renewal, until they were bought by oracle and o sold that part of the service to name. com

Never seen this happen, my domains have remained dirt cheap on renewals.
 
i dont think since apps became a thing anyone is going to hit the domain lottery again. urls mean nothing in modern apps imho can do whatever they want without them. you see where you get pointed to sometimes? 35634623$#@%43254354.amaaws.s3.23rwedf.

Godaddy is cheap tp transfer to them but then there are no discounts on renewal so get the longest term you can. Transfer away on renewal, rinse repeat. Get the longest term at next registrar, etc.
 
you guys know google has a super low cost domain reg right? it is kind of a pain to repoint DNS to use a local server but not impossible. with google domains and lets encrypt for SSL traffic for free, its like pennies to grab a domain name and pass https traffic.
 
I ended up just moving all my domains to Google. As much as I don't want to give them my money, they're cheap and obviously good. And they don't jerk you about with costs. $12 a year which is more than fair compared to something like $50 a year for Godaddy.
If you have the time to do domain transfers all the time or your website downtime doesn't matter, switch depending on whatever deals you get. But for me, I don't want the hassle. Cheap and good is good enough.
 
Hm. I know a guy that needs to move, but I know I'm going to end up making him a new site (and I'm not an HTML person). But I'll have to look around!

This is just for domain name registration. This is entirely separate from hosting or use of any CMS. I as an example use Google Domains and Squarespace. Before that I was GoDaddy and Squarespace. Before that, GoDaddy and Wordpress (on Bluehost). (I could keep going on these, but after a while it's boring and redundant).
You can do any combination of domain registrar and choice of actual hosting as well as choice of CMS on top of that.
 
Google has a web site builder also. Ive never used it but it looked full featured. Im no pro google person, but some times the cheaper simpler solution is the best.

This. And the privacy crap is included in Google's $12/yr.

Godaddy I won't go back to - their endless pages of upsell screens while trying to checkout would always get on my nerves.

This post is great I had no idea google did registrar. I have godaddy currently, I managed to coupon myself into 2+10 years with privacy for like $220, finally expiring in 2021. Wasn’t looking forward to the eye gouging from the renewal. Thanks for the info
 
Be careful and especially do not be cheap.

I've had godaddy, siteground, a few others give me an absolute hell of a time with domains. From phishing attacks, losing a few domains, hassle after hassle. Guess where I park my domains at now, domains.google .. $12 ... no more hassles, ever. Also, always redirect domain / mail ... don't ever be lazy and allow your hosting control of either.
