I used AOMEI BackUpper (free)

The 1TB drive was already an IMAGE of the original. So the SSD is now running a copy of a copy.

Booted right up. FSX runs perfectly on it. No issues so far.

Only reason I posted this is if anyone wonders about it.

I used to use CloneZilla (for like 10 years +) but it seems to be falling into obscurity now because it's having trouble with mixed GPT and MBR partitions and the interface is really clunky.

When free stuff, like AOMEI and a few others with super nice interfaces and accurate copies is available, CloneZilla could be in trouble.

Anyway....loving the speed of the SSD.

Aomei works pretty decent. I haven't had issues with Clonzilla though. Will look into that next time I have need though.

I still have Acronis around too. (WD free version). That one works ok. Mostly I use that to upgrade storage drives.

AOMEI BackUpper can clone the active, booted Disk 0....to another disk...while you've got Windows open and running (if you use windows). Try THAT with CloneZilla.

All from an Interface that a 9 year old could probably navigate.

Trust me...I'm a LONG TIME CloneZilla fanatic....make that......WAS

That’s all I use now is AOMEI. I’ve used it a bunch of times and it’s never failed me. I’ve even successfully used it to move a Windows install to completely different hardware. It’s nice.

Oh good. glad it helped you. Enjoy the forums

Make sure it's 4K aligned. Check with AS SSD.

Checked it with AS SSD......looks like it needs alignment.

4K Read 30.85 MB/s
4K WRITE 82.43 MB/s

Recommended Software to correct this?

Tried EaseUS Partition Master but got error......
"unable to perform the operation due to insufficient unallocated space"

Lack of alignment is bad for the drive in general. I know some people say it doesn't matter, but I can assure you it does - it's slower and wears the NAND faster if it's not aligned.

EaseUS is fine - you might have to shrink the partition first.

Thanks.

I ended up using a FREE tool called Mini Tool
https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmanager/how-to-align-ssd-partition.html

Took about 45 minutes to re-align a 1 Terrabyte SSD

The Total Score BEFORE alignment was around 750......AFTER alignment it was around 1120

Truth be told, the 4K numbers didn't change much but the others did. Seq, 4K-64 and AccTime all improved a good bit.

So it's all 4K aligned now.
Thanks all !

+1 to Minitool. Over on Tenforums.com, everyone seems enthusiastic about the free version of Minitool.

Thanks.

Looks good. Ah, didn't realize you meant the MX500. It's not as crucial for SATA drives but still hurts performance and wears the drive faster. Glad we caught it! And I thought to check that because I have tons of people who clone over from a HDD and don't realize that if you don't use software that explicitly aligns on clone you will be misaligned.

Well, SOMEBODY's gotta pay for All their software.
I buy as often as I can...but just can't buy it all.
I’ve bought Backupper, but not the partition app. I definitely like giving money to companies that make my life easier.

So which ones do you have the most stocks in? haha

I definitely enjoy the products from companies that make things I want or enjoy......but I still can't actually say i "enjoy" giving them my money. More that it's necessary to pay for things you want or need.
Even corporations deserve to make a profit if they provide a useful service or product.

BackUpper is an awesome product. Might have to spring for that.

Another plus vote for the Aomei BackerUpper.
Unless one has some expertise, none of the 'free' cloning solutions offered by MS, Ubuntu or whomever are worth having.
They are only free if your time is worthless.
I futzed around with several of these and got nowhere, whereas the task was done easily and painlessly with BackerUpper.
The $45 including taxes that I spent on that software was well worth it imho.
I paid for the Pro version, as it included ongoing support, something I've found valuable previously as well.
