So this is the simplified layout I'm gonna do unless you guys spot something I missed that screws it all up. I am unsure if the pump I have has the nuts to power this loop. Thoughts?

There is no need to complicate your setup. Each device doesnt need a radiator separately after cooling.

Run everything in serial fashion. Remember that in watercooling loops your NOT going to see a benefit in a radiator after the CPU, then a radiator after gpu.

Water is going to stabilize throughout the loop to one average consistent temperature.

Water is not going to be considerably hotter coming out of the CPU block that then needs to be cooled before going to the GPU.

Since water is flowing so fast through your system, its actually must faster than you would assume, were talking on average even in low settings many liters per minute to gallons per minute of flow. Remember these are fishtank pumps that have been modified to for PC cooling so they are built to deliver a steady and high flow of liquid. Gotta keep those fish alive and all.

Since your CPU and GPU are rated in watts and we know that watts are a measure of energy with respect to time. i.e. 100watt lightbulb will consume 100 watts in one hour or 0.10kWh

If we just calculate the CPU, Threadripper with a 280watts and GPU 2080ti with a 250 watt TDP that combines to a total energy usage @ 100% duty to 530 watts

So in 1 hour your system has potential to output 530 watts from 100% GPU/CPU usage at the same time.


Lets pretend you perform a blender job that took 120 seconds to render Santa Clause Dropping a Deuce in the Potty @ 100% CPU and GPU usage.

Since your blender job took only 120 seconds to complete assuming an unreal scenario of 100% CPU and GPU usage we get the following:

60m = 3600s so 530watts/3600s = .147 watts per second is what your two expensive toys are consuming energy.

If we look at what the Blender job @ 120 seconds cost in energy we see 120s(.15w) = 18 watts used

Lets say your loop thermals went up 1 deg C in that 120seconds which is a LOT of energy.

If we apply thermodynamics and the equation Q=MC^T ^=delta Q=energy in joules M=mass T=temp in C

Lets assume 1 liter of coolant in loop which is also 1kg of water mass.

q=(1000g)(4.186j/g C)(1C) we get q = 4,186 joules and we convert joules/s to watts it is a 1:1 conversion so it took 4186 joules 120 seconds to heat your liter 1c. That comes out to be 34j/s of thermal output or 34watts/second or 4186 watts in 120seconds. WOW that is a shit ton on thermal output and is wholly unrealistic. You WILL never see a 1 watt increase in coolant temp in 120seconds at full cpu load and gpu load.

Now since you are tossing in 3 radiators, assuming they are 2x120mm each, we have 6x120mm and its been estimated that each 120mm worth of radiator can cool 100 watts/hour so you have a total thermal cooling capability of 600watts/hour of thermal dissipation and we know that your CPU and GPU consume up to 530watts in an hour it would seem that 6x120mm is the perfect amount of radiator leaving you with headroom.

Now that we see to heat one liter of water just 1c takes 4.186(1000g) = 4,186 watts of power or 4kWH or 4kw in one hour

Since we know that your PC is capable of outputting 530watts of heat in one hour of solid usage lets get a percentage

530watts / 4,186 = 0.126 or 12%

This means that only 12% of the heat capacity of your liquid in your loop is being used and thats only to heat 1c over ambient.

Since the above scenario of heating the liquid 5c in 2 mins is very unreal, it shows just how much of our cooling in our loops we are not using.

And also keep in mind that many people do use far less than 1 liter in their loops so the maths are completely different in those cases and you will see much faster heating of water than the above scenario.

Water has a profound capacity for retaining heat energy.

Thus, since you are not able to saturate or even come close in the quarter of a second a given quantity of water is passing through your CPU block, there is no need to run a radiator after your CPU and then after your GPU.

Now keep in mind that you might observe a several degree increase in water temperature over say 1 hour of gaming hard and you forgot to install your radiator fans. This is due to the fact your blocks have microfins that are very good at moving heat to water. Also water loops are a closed system. Heat is able to escape but without fans its much slower. We see fast increases in temperature rise on computer loops because your hardly going to use a liter in some cases only a 3rd of a liter or so is used. I know in many of my past loops I might use a quarter of the EK bottle. In this case just realize that yhour going to heat water much faster with less energy required to elevate your loop 1c and then 2c and so on.

I assume the ideal loop would contain a reservoir with at least 2 liters of water capacity but that is not realistic at all. Most res's only hold about 300ml or so of capacity and the blocks and hoses another 200ml of liquid or about half a liter. So you can cut the energy and time in half that it takes to heat your loop to 1c. This means your 280watt CPU acts like a 560watt thermal load and your 280watt GPU the same. Both combined have over 1KW of effective thermal output in only half a liter of water. If you run an even smaller capacity loop the thermal effects on the water increase even more.

Yeah,

I agree with tangoseal, you never want to run multiple loops, always combine them into one loop.

If both those radiators are in the same loop, when you do something - for instance - like running a game, where the CPU is going to be pretty lightly loaded, with a lightly threaded load, and the GPU is going full out, the GPU is going to get the heat dissipation capacity of BOTH the radiators.

Similarly, if you are doing a large encode job and really loading the CPU, the GPU is sitting there nice and pretty and not doing much. The CPU gets the combined heat dissipation capacity of both radiators.

Meanwhile, if you build two separate loops, now each component is limited to the heat dissipation capacity of just one radiator at max load.

In real life loads we are very rarely, if ever, loading both components to 100% at the same time, but even if we do, the worst case of combining all components in the same loop is that when both components are going at 100%, you'll get the same cooling capacity as the separate loops.

The only reason for running multiple loops is for show builds that are done only for appearance,but when they do this, they inherently sacrifice performance.

Compared to separate loops, running a single loop has only upsides and no downsides. There are absolutely no benefits from running multiple loops other than appearance, and there are plenty of downsides.

In fact, with a single loop you will probably even be able to get away with a single pump, and still get high enough flow rates (~ 1GPM). The pumps also dump heat into the loop, so this is yet another way your loop will run cooler.

Lol. My loop takes about 1.75L :p

I actually like it.

It acts like a buffer, just like the thick copper bases of old school air coolers, and keeps the fan speed changes moving nice and slow, and unobtrusive compared to peaky fast fan speed changes on cooling setups without a massive sink like a whole bunch of water.

Saw your post, went straight to Amazon and placed order (in stock from Amazon Jan 10 at msrp).

I'm using nowinstock.com and getting notifications out the wazoo. Mine is supposed to arrive January 8th. Looks like amazon is staging them out.
 
I got mine in 1 day after ordering the other day. No idea where they get them only thing I can think of it not that many people look for them as it's not on nowinstock?
They are hooked into a major distribution center as far as I remember. They've been around a very long time and are reputable.
 
Now they just need to update the website form the early 90s

I actually don't mind the interface. It's not "pretty" but the money they aren't paying a web designer is money you aren't being charged to recoup the cost of a fancier site.

not bad...but a bit of a mark-up...(though nowhere near as bad as Newegg poked me in my behind)

Well, you know what they say about the best laid plans...

The top Rad has to be rotated 180° from the pic because the port is blocked by the rather gargantuan I/O Heat Sink.

I rotated it 180° and installed the Rad and noticed that the thick screw head provided by XSPC for the fan to mount to the Rad hits the same heat sink. I replaced the offending screw with a thinner-headed flat-head screw and it looks like it may have bought me 3mm extra clearance (vital if I am to use the horizontal port on the Top Rad as a Fill Port)

I have all my Bitspower fittings (except the 90°s which are scheduled for delivery today between 3pm-5pm) and I have four Barrow 90° fittings that I can use if needed...The Barrow pieces are "okay". Far smaller than the TT ones but they suffer from a machining process which leaves obstructions in the bended area...I can use them for the Fill/Drain ports since flow rate doesn't matter in that aspect of the loop.

I also have my CableMod cables (250mm long 24-pin ATX extension and 250mm EPS12v * 2 full-on replacement cables, then 900mm long 8-pin PCIe * 2 replacement cables, and 900mm long 6-pin PCIe * 1 replacement cables)

Wiring will take a day or two since I have to print out and install cable combs and some C-Channel pieces (with lids) to mount to the back of the mobo tray to hide some of the wiring.

I also have to print out plates to hide some of the many holes in the mobo tray area and cover the visible wiring for a cleaner look

I'm getting there...made more progress yesterday alone than in the last week so things are looking up.
 
well hell. been trying to get a 3950x close to retail for a few weeks now. I can wait but do wish I could backorder one someplace. in the meantime I will use the 3800X I bought to upgrade my wife's system and hold off doing hers until I can get a 3950 .
had an Auros Master,Corsair 750D,Seasonic 1KW ultra plat,H115IPro,64GB Predator Memory,and 2 sabrent 1TB pcie4 rocket drives and a GB 5700XT OC sitting here doing nothing now for weeks .
have most of the parts for my wifes pc so ordered her cpu today to get things going for me. I should see a few more FPS coming from my FX8350 and R580 setup currently.

All the wiring (except for RGB and Fan Power) is complete...backside is a mess currently but that can be straightened out later.

All tubing cut to size and fitted. I wanted to see what white tubes would look like, but I didn't want to paint them yet, so I blew $9 for 10ft of white 19mm Heat Shrink and put the stuff on the hard lines...I may put some black over the white so the lines liik like a "- - - - - - - "

So whaddya do when you had 8 connectors but need 10?

By this weekend I'll do a power on test before doing the loop itself. The large hunk of metal sitting on the 3970x should have enough heat capacity to allow me to boot into the bios for a few minutes to check that everything is working before the temperatures creep out of control.

Just use a case fan or something blowing on it temporarily to give yourself a little extra insurance time.
 
man I'm glad BB came through for me, albeit the google express BB store. I'd prefer to have got it off amazon for the 5% back to bite into the tax a bit. This is the first time I bought into the hype and tried to get something hot without waiting. (Almost did it with the 2080ti until all the space invaders issues so kinda saved me there)

Here's what I found:

All the email alerts are crap from businesses. Almost all gave me alerts where they were already sold out in the nano second it took me to change tabs. Nowinstock was better with alerting where I'd see stock or it'd give me about 6 more seconds to get my crap in order. (had issues with a few times I forgot to whitelist in pihole which caused me to lose my chances)

The script method that monitors the page worked the best outside of Amazon where it'd alert everytime some gouging non-amazon seller decided to list their $1299 3950x. Did this method for a while until I realized my IP was getting blocked by stores. I literally couldn't even get to newegg.com They eventually started working again but I had to randomize or check in longer increments. Then started seeing all the gouger prices at the stores so ended up removing most of them except amazon.

at this point I was about to give up.. this was waaaay too much work. I got an alert on Amazon at 2:45am so thinking they might have got stock.. I got up and sure enough it was a gouger seller. I had enough and was about to start uninstalling the scripts and turning off my alerts when I decided to just plain old search 3950x on google shopping and it found it available on the BB google express shop. Just blind luck I guess since I never set any alerts to google express.

Amazon has had preorders available at 749 over the last few days over and over. Mine is slated for delivery on the 8th. Last I checked, new preorders were for the 23rd. I got my wife to order from the app on her phone when I got an alert from nowinstock.com. I don't have the amazon app installed.

THe problem with the 16 core is the tiny ass package its on. Your limited by the IHS basically.

Yeah, AMD recommends 280 and up AIOs, but my 240 in most reviews does just as well as the other Corsair 280s and 360s, albeit at higher volumes. I'm running my 3900x with it in push pull with Corsair LL120s and Noctua A12x25s. The only issue I see is 10 degree spikes for milliseconds. Average temps are good. I have been wondering if a 360 with a little more liquid would smooth out the spikes. However, with the IHS being the limiting factor, I don't think so.

THe problem with the 16 core is the tiny ass package its on. Your limited by the IHS basically.
Main reason I went TR they run cool. Just for fun I turned off 2 cores per ccx (ccd?) Making my 3960 a 16 core and it ran at like 45-50c and could hit 4.55 surprisingly it only let met get 100mhz more out of it. Also I was surprised how evenly binned every chiplit is my lowest one hits 4.45 and the rest 4.55 100% pointless but it was fun running just one chiplit and having 40c temps and playing with per core clocking the difference between what razen master says is the strongest and weakest core is only about 50-75mhz. No idea if the am4 ones are binned so colse but amd really has the TR ones on good silicone
