Budget smart home company Wyze is the subject of a new security report alleging massive user data loss in what is described as a huge security breach. Wyze has acknowledged the report but has said that it hasn’t yet been able to confirm whether the claims are true. The company was only made aware of the report earlier today from a second party, which claims on its own website that it verified the leak by reviewing ‘the records.’

The initial security breach claim was published by ‘Twelve Security,’ a website that describes itself as a ’boutique consulting firm.’ The report claims that Wyze’s production databases ‘were left entirely open’ for anyone to access, exposing data from 2.4 million users. The report claims the exposed data includes email addresses, lists of cameras with their nicknames, WiFi SSID, API tokens, Alexa tokens, and more.

I recently had someone with 30+ yrs practical experience and holds several advanced degrees in network architectural design (both in hdwr & SW), do an extremely detailed & thorough analysis of each of da 'zon's & ring's so-called "smart home" devices, and he literally screamed at me at the top of his lungs, saying that they are so full of security holes, that if the front panel on the new Mac Pro workstation was a network security device, you would still be better protected by using it instead of these dreadful thingamabobs....

I would be interested in reading that analysis. Would be good to see other than "some smart guy said these are bad" statement as if it were fact.

A peeve of mine is when people present argument with "someone told me" and use that as disputable information. No, it is a made up story you created to since you had nothing. This is like those stupid facebook shares that go around "this just happened to a friend of mine...".

Back to the story, if these devices are the most insecure thing in the world, why are there only 6 instances of this being breached?

Well, if you choose to ignore my statements and use these devices, then you deserve whatever bad stuff happens to you....sorry if that sounds harsh, but oh well....

It's hard enough to maintain any kind of personal security nowadays as it is, and giving the makers of this stuff complete & unrestricted access to everything I do & say anytime anywhere is not something I am willing to do just so I can have some minor "conveniences", which some people seem to think they MUST have to survive, but I do not and never will...

Suffer if you must, but pleeeeze don't come crying to me when your entire life is ruined by some malicious shithead that thinks it is ok and/or gets their jollies by doing so

Yeah... Gimmie some door sensors and cameras, set'em up to send email alerts. Gimmie a smart hub (pi), and set up some simple scripts to do what I need.

Don't need Alex or Sirius listening in to everything I do, tyvm. I can type in google searches just fine myself, also (not that I'd want to–their search engine is becoming less useful and more ad-ridden by the day).
