Some deals are great right out of the gate without special pricing discounts. I just got my Viper 256GB M.2 Thursday, works great and looks the same ... check out the heat sink design :)

Patriot Viper M.2 256GB 2280 SSD ... $54 + ship + tax
Samsung equivalent (970 EVO Plus) ... $82 + ship + tax

It seems SSD prices are slowly climbing up. I picked up a 500GB SATA EVO 860 last week for $59.99. Everyone had it for that price. Now, it's up to $69.99.

I also picked up the aforementioned Inland 1TB NVMe for $99 a few days ago. Now, it's up to $109.

Anyone else noticing this trend?

Yep, some of the other deals I've been watching have done the $10 bump up too. Interesting to see that though this soon.

As far as the the deal in the thread, it's getting to the point where performance is about the same, but it's just manufacturing quality and warranty that are different. Maybe some binning going on by the oem?

I just checked the warranty for the two M.2's I posted and both have 3 year parts/labor warranties. Samsung runs way more commercials than Patriot and Samsung is a more "trusted" provider to most customers ... that's what I think makes for the $30 difference on the M.2 256GB SSD's I mentioned above

The Samsung actually comes with a 5yr warranty according to their website.

I think there's a reason why Samsung is more trusted--because they also make enterprise grades of ssds which have to be dead reliable and these lessons do trickle into their consumer products making them more robust than the competition. It seems like only Samsung, Intel, and Micron have been making enterprise ssds from the early days and there's probably a lot of knowledge from that experience.

Oh, ok ... Newegg has it posted as 3 yrs. Two additional years for $30 ... seems a bit steep don't you think? I'll bet the Viper easily makes it to 5 years

It's not necessarily if it will make it but the afr, warranty process, etc. Usually on 5yr drives you don't have to worry about them for about 10 years 24x7 service. It's kinda like a guarantee on the reliability or they'll fix it type of thing. Even with regular hard drives, the enterprise 5yr warranty ones don't mess around, but there is a price for that. Definitely not for everyone and ymmv.

And, the Inland 1TB NVMe is up to $119 now, $20 more than it was less than 2 weeks ago. Not good.
