Threadripper 3970X vs Intel Core i9-10980XE

This says it right here, it's all that matters!

"In general, the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X is a better gaming processor than the Core i9-10980XE. AMD's 32-core part delivers up to three more average frames per second in five out of nine titles. The Core i9-10980XE only beat the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X in three titles, with differences up to eight frames per second.

Winner: AMD. The Ryzen Threadripper 3970X might not be a gaming monster, but it's still marginally faster than the Core i9-10980XE. If you plan to do a fair bit of gaming, the Ryzen Threadripper 3970X has your back."

:bag:Totally bogus review.

A legitimate review would have used retail-purchased CPUs which makes comparison impossible since the Intel offering is vaporware.
And the current availability on the AMD chips is any better? Retail channels for both are dry, I have a pair of 3970’s on order and I won’t see them till April at the earliest.

Really, it just says that the reviewer is... inexperienced, to put it nicely.

Talking about average framerates with deviations at a fraction of a percent, instead of the 99% number they recorded and is far more applicable given that they also included Zen+ CPU results (where they struggled), is straight up noobsauce.

And then ignoring their own overclocking results, and the discrepancies where enabling PBO on the TR parts can lower performance?

How about actually talking about what matters? This blurb was written like many of your news posts, erek ;)

Yeah the scalpers.... No retail channels currently have any 3950X, 3960X, 3970X, parts available, they are all backordered. AMD reps are telling us they plan to have the backlog filled come March which means I wont have mine till April. Yes there are some people who have theirs, but the bulk of us dont. While not technically a paper launch it is pretty damned close.

They all say I stock but for warehouse availability they all say the same thing.

I didn't lie.. apparently you didn't check them all.

People have the nerve to flat out post lies...really annoying. I need to use the ignore feature more not directed at you... :)
You wouldn’t be the first nor the last. :)

What am I lying about, Synnex and Ingram Micro are telling me the same thing which is March. Which means CDW Canada will probably have it out the door and in my hands by April. Which is fine I don’t need it until July so I can have them good to go for Sept.
They are being built up one as a render machine for the Art Department and the other for the Comp clubs to do AI stuff. They are going to be very fun to build.

Found them all on google shopping, try that for CA.
I’ve tried they all let me get to the checkout then throw a message about how there is an error with one or more of my items and the shipping location. Then hey give me some story about special shipping restrictions and they can’t ship to Canada. So I am stuck waiting for the “proper” importers.

Sorry to hear that.. google the crap out of it with “Canada” and maybe you will get lucky.

Canada:
Official vendors
Memory express (special order)
https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX79766

Canada computers- out of stock everywhere
https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4_64&item_id=158466
I’ve never really dealt with Memory Express, but I know Canada Computers pulls its stock again from Synnex and Ingram Micro. But I can call ME in Jan to see what they can do. I’m not going to fret too hard over a PC I don’t get to use, especially over Christmas.

This is absolute nonsense. Reviewers since the dawn of the industry have used CPU samples sent to them. This might shock you, but reviewers aren't going to spend nearly $6,000 on retail motherboards and CPU's to do a single article. Mainstream CPU's are one thing but HEDT is another bag. I use a mix of retail and sampled CPU's, and fully disclose which is which. The samples are generally identical silicon anyway. They are potentiall hand picked, but I've seen examples of retail CPU's clock better and engineering samples clock worse.

Probably same thing where I am. Am I going to reeee and call it a paper launch? No, because it's not and I've seen multiple builds on here and multiple units in stock in USA in the last few weeks. Am I going to bother sourcing an expensive cpu locally with gouging markup? Fuck no. I'm going to import it from burgerland, hopefully with the help of an awesome [H] member.

Blaming AMD because your supply chain sucks isn't cool.

Same with blaming the review because it didn't use your designated real world software™ or testing methods, when none of that stuff used to evoke such reactions before when your favorite team was on top, is quite funny to see.

Pretty sure notarat was being sarcastic and throwing a turd at Intel for far worse stock than AMD. But good info to point out for those who don't understand, that shit is expensive. More so than advertising revenue.

Yeah it takes days of testing and days more of video editing to put a good or even a bad review. Nobody is going to manage to do that for seconds after an NDA lifts often before a product actually launches. Otherwise if they did every tech channel would have a live video of their adventures in the tent camp in front of their local supplier waiting for the part to review. Then a play by play of the fights that break out when the 12 sites fight over the 4 units that actually arrived.

Tech Jesus LoL
Best nickname for a YTr I've heard xD Need more like that.
Apparently he's got sticky out ears hence the hair to cover it. Should just rock em loud and proud, can't imagine the hair being good for ESD when wandering around multiple PC's.

Lmao! I'd pay good money to see Jay no cents and tech Jesus go at it.
When you say “go at it” are you thinking ESPN or Pornhub..... cause I am sure that either option checks a few boxes.

'Radar Dishes'!!! Oh man you got me laughing good there.
Didn't know pinning back was a thing, the more you know..

Was thinking more ESPN. I forget this is [H], the latter didn't cross my mind but indeed could cater to the right folks xD

That's not what he meant if I'm reading it right. The Intel cpus do not exist anywhere outside of select reviewers.

Lol, the amount of feels that people catch whenever Intel and AMD is mentioned is funny how bent it gets.

It is like me talking about the abomination that is Disney star wars and get some "expert" tell me it is bold and great. That is something to get bent out of shape about as it is for most memories and upbringing.

I like AMD now as I think they have good options to select from and they have been pretty transparent about it. I as a consumer like that

I'd win. :)

I've met some of the other reviewers out there. I think I can take most of them in a fight.

This is true. I've asked Intel about availability and got crickets in return.
