MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries announced!

Does anyone else feel like the lasers kind of suck in this game compared to MWO? In MWO they are big and beautiful with a real feeling of power. In MW5 they are tiny little lines that don't look pretty or feel powerful

they look pathetic compared to MWO... the whole game looks pathetic next to MWO. MWO has a MUCH better hud system also. Everytthing is right there, its easy to see, you know what it is telling you all the time.

Plus bitching betty sounds way better in MWO :)

I'm not too sure about the native screenshot key either. I just use nVidia overlay (alt-F1)

i was also talking about the graphics and hud not the game play. the two games look like they were made by completely different companies and/or teams.

Fair, still a shitty game, pig with lipstick is still a pig.

I actually like the simplicity and readability of the hud. Also I notice that the mech status diagrams are all properly modeled after their respective mechs opposed to a generic one in MWO.

Meant to show this before but being sick is fun and I'm also lazy. The Starburst Vomit Mercenary Group

Added a few more mechs since these screenshots but still no heavies! Actually got crushed on one mission losing my 3 lancemates and getting back to the drop ship with no arms on my Hunch and stripped armor on both legs while under fire. Surprisingly intense.

I miss the ability to change the readout from the mech shape to bar graphs ala MW4. So much easier to read and understand than the paper model.

takes some getting use to but after 5 years of MWO going back to the bar graphs would drive me nuts.. outline of component is armor, inside is structure.. dull yellow to bright yellow is 99% to 51% dull orange to dark orange is 50% to 11% red is 10% or less.

welcome to the difference between having to work within the limitations of the F2P crytek engine and unreal 4 engine where there's no limitations.. why they haven't bothered to port MWO over to the unreal engine and told crytek to eff off yet i don't know since all the assets can be directly ported over without having to modify any of the meshes.

Unreal gave them more freedom so now that game looks worse? Weird statement to make.

Do you have to progress the main story campaign to get heavies or can you keep grinding out contracts?

...I think it's a bit of both, but that's just from my own current (which is my first) play through.
The game does seem to progress in stages and I think the story missions (tracked ones) tie into the game's progression.
I had a noticeable increase after my last story mission where things went from mainly up to about 65T mechs being available and mission difficulty being up to the mid 30's, to now both have progressed and I'm looking at missions with around mid 40's to mid 50's in terms of difficulty and I've now got an 85T and a 75T hero mech in my collection.

They need to fix the spawning, having 3 techs spawn right next to me is getting tiresome.

Edit: add really bad ai lance mates and almost worthless radar to the list of wtf were the developers thinking.

I found my first assault mech in about 4 hours of play but it was an AWS-8Q which I didn't want. I'm holding out for some King Crabs now since I have the Atlas and a Highlander.

I find if you manage your lance as your main task and then provide backup to them in your own mech, that works well, but agreed - if you leave your lance members to their own devices they tend to be pretty random.
The spawning behind and right next to you stuff is a bit crummy - not sure how they can fix that, other than the obvious moving spawning to a more realistic location.

Atlas has always been my personal favorite in Mechwarrior games and even the table top game they are based on. If the load-out in MW5 is good, it's likely I'll focus on it, once I get my grubby hands on one.

I don't believe so. None of the guides I have looked at mention them, but I thought I saw one in a game trailer, but I am likely wrong.
Mech lists are below if you're curious:

From what I can tell, that's all Inner Sphere mechs. Definitely makes me sad that I can't play in an Inner Sphere variant of the Mad Cat. Maybe future DLC if it does happen?

My favorite is the Dire Wolf... aka the Daishi. I love that thing, it just looks cool too. No clan mechs yet though but thats ok.

The Atlas is very tough in this game, I maxed the armor and it can take a lot of punishment, importantly it rarely loses any weapons. I can also sustain fire for 3-4 minutes at a time before overheat, I have 2x LL, SRM 4+6 and an LBX AC 10.

Any Mad Cats in the game? Would love a decked out variant of it.

Mad Cat is a clan mech, no clan stuff in the game right now. Clan invasion starts in 3049, conveniently where there timeline ends for this game. I'm guessing expansion or DLC in the future.

I only like a bunch of Inner mechs but the true meat & potatoes for me is definitely the clan mechs (omnimechs FTW).

Pro tip for faster launching, go to the movies folder in the game file and change the names of these two. I just call them _old in UE4 games and it works fine.

Saw in a twitch stream chat this weekend a supposed dev say they were fixing the spawning to not be so stupid in this week's patch (tuesday I think).

First time I've seen a tier 5 weapon.

Also, I forced 4xMSAA + 4x SSAA in the Nvidia control panel and got rid of the garbage TAA in the UE4 engine, holy crap the game looks better and doesn't have so many performance drops!

A minor nuisance I'm noticing is you can only see high reward and tracked missions on planets that are further than a certain distance from you.
i.e. to see all the other missions in an area of the star map, you need to actually move to that area, which then means you can only see planets in that general area - not the area that you traveled from.
It would be useful if you could see all missions on all planets that you have access to - as you unlock some as you increase in reputation, rather than having to jump around the place and either guess or remember.

At the moment I want to do a couple of easier missions to earn a few quick credits, as I took a beating in my last mission (nothing lost though, but I earned about 3/4 million credits and costs myself almost 2 million in repair bills) - but you can't see which planets have missions in distant parts of the star map.

If you want easy credits, solo run raids or demolitions in an ultra fast light mech. Just ignore the enemies and blitz the objectives then run away. The AI is so bad at hitting a moving target that they actually help you be blowing the everloving shit out of the buildings they're supposed to protect.

I hadn't thought of that.
I might give it a shot, but that's not my normal style. It's easy going back to do lower rated missions, once you've gotten used to level 50 and up. The highest I've had so far is rated 71.

Well I give up, just tried to play after the new patch and its unplayable. Game freezes completely every 3-5 seconds and then fast forwards to catch up the action. I don't know wtf is going on but I don't like it.

That sucks! I haven't had a chance to play with the new patch yet. Hopefully they release a hotfix before the next major patch.

I've found that the difficulty spike in missions has taken a steep upward curve. Going to have to go back to grinding some lower tier areas and build up my gear and pilot stats I think.

Does anyone know how to find pilots with higher max levels? Everywhere I go, the pilots have crappy 15-20 max stats.

I played with the drop limit turned off last night, game is a lot more fun when you can actually stand and fight most missions instead of cheese balling.

Oh snap!! I didn't realize there was an option to disable the drop limit

Game changer! :D

Edit: Does it still display a "recommended" drop limit?

You get Freeman from a mission very early on, he has 48 points IIRC. I found 40+ point pilots in the reputation 9+ areas. Theres also that shinzeng dude or whatever his name is you get from a mission, hes somewhere up there too.

Hes probably using the trainer program for it, thats the only way I know how to remove the limit.

Yup, using a trainer.

I just got killed by my lancemates for the first time. Gauss to the back of the head. Missions lost, had to reload lol

LOL.. Where did you find that gauss? Is it part of story progress? I want one.

I'm making a bit more progress with survivability. It really is important to grind the higher tier weapons huh? I feel like the campaign progress is still quite slow and grindy, but I figure it's something to do with my play style rather than the game itself.

I got my first one finding a Hero Hunchback. I have like 20 of them now though. Get rid of the centurion and jenners fast, they will only slow you down. Hunchbacks of any flavor will take you really far if you max the armor.

Hmmm, good tip. I still have a centurion on my (200 ton) alpha team. At the moment the team is:

Blackjack (my mech)
Centurion
Hunchback
Wolverine

Mostly Tier 2 and 3 weapons

I have a bunch of 65 tonners but the missions aren't at that level yet (Still mulling around Rep 6 areas).

Thunderbolt
Catapault
Jagermech

Don't be afraid to run 3 instead of 4. I ran a heavy and two mediums for a long time.

In other news, get a load of this guy... he talks like a yolo douchebag in missions too haha
