Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

The best part about "micro tech" is that it crashes the server if you die on the planet.

Seriously, are none of the die hard fans concerned that the last year has supposedly been devoted to SQ42 and yet only "coming soon" tech demos for star citizen were shown?

How are you not concerned that there is still basically no AI? 50 player limits? One unfinished system?

How can anyone be excited and continue to support CIG after these videos are all they have to show for $250+ million and 8 years.

That is their biggest issue, horrifically bad project (mis)management. Even if you give them a pass for resetting and moving to a new engine, they are constantly adding new tech, that while interesting is just adding years to the development.

I have no problems with the Star Citizen PU game taking some time to build out given what they are wanting to do, but there is pretty much no real excuse why SQ42 is not finished, or nearly finished. The SP game doesn't need server meshing, or individual ship components, or multiple manned ship stations or dozens of other modules that they keep inventing.

Seriously at the rate they are going I will have to bequeath my RSI account to my kid.

What really gets me about this is Star Citizen just needed to be a prettier and more in depth version of NMS and Elite Dangerous. The problem as has been pointed out before, is CR decided "more depth" meant trying to dive to the deepest part of the ocean using a cargo ship.

Hell it just needed to be an updated awesome version of Wing Commander, maybe with a Privateer Multiplayer element. Not super duper space sim maybe 2028.

I was so excited when Squadron 42 was announced as I was looking forward to a good story driven single player game. Now I am regretting my funding as it is apparent this is not at all a priority to the developers now. With the continual feature creep we will never see this game released.

I came into the game in the summer of '17 (I waited) so I'm a more recent backer. From everything I have seen they didnt really get serious about SQ42 until around December 2018 so for those waiting for SQ42 dont hold your breath for a 'soon' release. If they get it out in 2020 I'll be surprised. More like 2021 I'm thinking. That's just my own opinion though. Have to wait and see what happens.

It's funny that "SC was not serious about SQ42 until recently" keeps coming up when they were already doing mocap in 2015. They also already were talking about the story and set pieces for SQ42 around that time, preview game play at that year's CitizenCon etc.

It was just put on the back burner while they were rebuilding SC.

Remember when CR said in 2016 that SQ42 was weeks away?

Im getting tired of this thread popping back up just for people to bitch and moan. I open it in hopes of actual, useful, interesting content, not the *same* bitching and complaints that have been repeated for over 400 pages. We get it, a decent amount of you are grumpy and think the games a scam. Shut the fuck up about it already.

The nice part about this site is we can post what we want about stuff and you are free to read it or not. Complaining about people posting stuff you disagree with is dumb and more of a waste then posting vaild points about a game that should have been out by now. Don't get mad at us for complaining about it get mad at the leadership of star citizen for letting it get to the point where it's a scam.

Tell cig to stop fundraising until they can show tangible progress. Right now it is looking like scam haven.

The game is the biggest scam in the history of gaming, by a huuuuuuge margin. It's kinda crazy to expect that subject matter isn't going to be discussed at length.

You should be tired of it, everyone is tired of it especially those who have paid money. Feel free to post what you believe to be useful interesting content, and so will everyone else.

Hey guys Micotech is coming in 3.8, so a whole new planet to expore, on the one system that is kind of finished. Don't forget to buy your ships!

You could just check the box that allows for CIG to send you the monthly Chairman's Club news. You'll get great curated, useful and interesting updates directly from CIG.

I'm sure once one of the games releases or at least gets to beta with a release date that is in this decade, there will be more kumbya happy joy joy posts. Given that the game is no where near released, people posting to bitch about it is about what you should expect, with an occasional informational post thrown in for good measure.

Edit: And the fact that this threat is 400 pages, mostly of people bitching about it, should speak volumes of the games current state, as well as the fact that most actually want it to succeed.

I really liked Elite Dangerous, but something about being locked to your ship just eventually got boring (plus being forced into mining and other tedious stuff just to do engineering).
It would be great if Star Citizen could at least match some of Elite's flight, with a little of No Man Sky. I kinda wish i had pledged back in the beginning and just sat on it as a loss. At this point, buying in seems a waste since I think you miss all of the "original backer" benefits like lifetime insurance, etc.

It satisfied my ship combat itch. Anything else, I went to No Mans Sky for.

Got this image from another forum, but apparently it was a screen cap taken from an official Star Citizen video? Sorry if this is old or fake news, havent been watching SC closely enough to be "in the loop"

We can see their internal Discord server, which goes something like this.

- Perfect timing
- Also, the BBC show. Are we fucked? yes or no
- I'm pretty sure they spoke to US marketing, not our marketing
??? ????
- So yes, we're fucked

I assume they're talking about this BBC expose on Star Citizen coming up tomorrow: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000cglv
"Click investigates why there has been continued delays in bringing $250m crowd funded video game Star Citizen from Gameplay testing to market."

Looks pretty mundane to me. Probably just the EU marketing team trashtalking the US one.

In any case, I hope the BBC rips SC a new asshole :)

As far as I know as a viewer of that video, none of that stuff was actually necessarily SQ42-related. It is indeed pretty, but it just seemed like more generic shots of random tech.

Here's how Star Citizen is planning to implement survival mechanics

Both hypothermia and hyperthermia are potential outcomes of failing to wear the right suit when you explore a planet, with vision effects and then eventual death if you don't do anything to rectify the situation...There will be buffs and debuffs from food and drink, with the example given of a chocolate bar that might add stamina regeneration, while medicine can provide a small amount of health regeneration...

Sounds wonderful. If for one, would love to micromanage a virtual man's health to ensure I don't make him fat or sick. Can we get real time beard growth too that would inhibit the use of certain helmets? Because I really need another menial task like shaving to do so it takes longer for me to get to my ship so I can do something interesting.

Survival mechanics feels like yet another example of a non-core gameplay feature that should be added after everything else is ticked off. I know that it's possible to work on more than one thing at once, but this just seems like another example of chucking everything and the kitchen sink into the game for the sake of it.

Not surprising to see that theres absolutely no mention of the most game changing feature they have implemented since launch - long term persistence. What you buy and earn in game, ships, credits, upgrades are now permanent. But no, all theyve done recently is release more ships for sale, they havent made progress on the most important feature of the game at all, nope. Oh wait, I forgot, this thread isnt for actual information about the game, its just a circle jerk for people who hate the game.

With announcements of features like this, I've lost any interest I had in this game. All I wanted was a good single space combat game in the veign of the original Wing Commander, and now we have this mess. Oh well, at least I only donated $50.

Wow, you're right, after 8(+) years they finally have semi-persistant servers that can somewhat handle 50 players, if only other developers were capable of such feats!

After 8 years the "game" is still in a buggy pre alpha state with no end in sight, and yet people actually celebrate CIG implementing features that have been around for 20 years....amazing.

I broke down and got an 8inch Amazon Fire (since they are cheap on sale), and the GameGlass plugin is pretty cool for SC. Way better than all of the hotkeys, especially because I'm really good at tapping 'self destruct'. Now if they would fix the wonky hover mechanism...

Haha ya I never understood that. Like I hate WoW and think it ruined MMORPG's. But I don't go into WoW forums and constantly bitch, complain and waste my time. I couldn't care less.
