Single Player Games

Another vote for Outer Worlds which I just finished a few days ago.

Destiny 2 is currently free on Steam, make space for 105GB to download, game size is a bit smaller 79GB.

Some of my recent favorites:
  • Assassins Creed: Odyssey
  • Middle-earth: Shadow of War
  • Battletech
  • Rebel Galaxy: Outlaw
  • Red Faction Guerrilla: Re-Mars-tered Edition

mmk. Just finished Farcry 5.
Ending was a bit...lackluster.

Got a handful of games I should finish in Steam. See what pops up on sale tomorrow.

The new remaster didn't do much in my opinion.
I liked bioshock 2. Infinite was great.
Bioshock 1 is one of my favorite games of all time.

I just got around to playing the DLC for infinite and it definitely is the best DLC I have played in a while and it ties the story together.

If you enjoyed PoE, give Grim Dawn a shot (it's on sale atm)

I second the Singularity recommendation. That game was awesome..

Also, Outer Worlds.

Dragon Age 1 and 3
Deus Ex (any of them)
Far Cry 3-5 (New Dawn is also solid if it's on sale)
Dark Souls 1-3 + Sekiro
Jedi Fallen Order

I'd put the Witcher 3 as my easy #1, but it's almost overwhelmingly long with minimal ways to speed things up. If you're an OCD completionist, you're looking at a game that's longer than the various Elder Scrolls games and the quests aren't randomized.

The original Bioshock is better in every way compared to its remaster. You can tell the remaster was just a quick cash grab for 2K. The game did not make the jump to UE4 well. There are missing effects, worse sound, no 3D audio, and in places it looks like they took whole swaths of background geometry out. They even broke widescreen support even though it was fixed quickly in the original.
There is where I like to go. Lots of customization, gear, builds, etc. I love modding weapons, choosing trees, and working on some form of crafting.
"Lots of customization, gear, builds, etc."
Witcher 3 has all of that.

"...moding weapons,"
You can upgrade them in a +1 fashion and also have the option of applying poisons to alter their attributes.

"...choosing trees,"
There are four trees where you select passives and skills from when leveling. You also get DNA augmentations that you can switch out without penalty and that can alter your playstyle. Both skills and augments can be switched out at any time.

"...some form of crafting."
You can craft armor, potion and poisons. Alchemy is one of your primary skill trees, and on the hardest difficulty you need to have the appropriate concoctions available to give you an edge in battle.

That is one of the most impressive aspects of The Witcher 3. All of the quests and missions are unique and it will take a completionist at least a couple hundred hours to finish the game. Doing everything there was to do in Skyrim and Oblivion including the DLC only takes about 70-80 hours in my experience.

Told you it was just alright. It's one of the few games that has left me disappointed, they dumbed everything down, for what reason I do not know.

May your next game be more fun!

I'm playing Watch Dogs 2 right now. The story is meh, but the game play makes up for it, more than FC5.

Purchased Witcher 3 GOTY Edition with some DLC I guess. $15. Gameplay videos don't really blow me away, but I've been proven wrong before. We'll see how it goes.

One of the best games ever made, if you bought it for gameplay, you might be disappointed, if you like good story and dialog, you will be very pleased.

So Gwent makes zero sense to me. I'll have to watch a tutorial or something.

Also went with the second to hardest difficulty so no life regen while meditation makes things interesting.

Decent game. I'll dub around with it a bit more.

It's a really good game. Give it until you have left the initial first area as well. It opens up from there.

I like Gwent, but it took actually sitting down and figuring it out. It just a deck building minigame, and your initial deck is junk. There are more powerful cards scattered around merchants in the world, laying out in the open, won from opponents and rewarded for some quests. You can miss one in the first couple hours of the game. There are guides scattered around the net of you want to look into it.

It is just an in game distraction, and not required except for a couple of quests, but I believe that those quests only pop as you progress in beating gwent opponents.

Yea, it's not bad. I like how you can actually move and parry. Instead of just standing there taking turns kicking each other in the shins. Level one taking on four level four Drowners(?) at 20% health was a head scratcher, heh. Looking forward to getting another hour in.

I hate Gwent. I really don't see the appeal in it or how it got a standalone game. This was the worst part of the game for me, being a completionist.

The fighting system actually isn't that complicated, but it took me a long time to get it down. I actually almost dumped the game completely due to the first fight in the game, but it feels really good once you get used to it. I think my primary issue was that I am usually a very precise gamer when it comes to button inputs, so I was trying to learn the windows for combos. Once I started mashing it started flowing much better. After that the use of signs during battle came naturally.

SP games I got recently that I sunk hours in to:

Red Dead Redemption 2 - they’ve smoothed over a lot of the issues but not all of them. Tbh I’ve put more time in to online than the story but the SP mode is indeed great, the pace is slow but I wouldn’t say boring.

Assasin’s Creed: Black Flag - promo gift. A joy for the first 20 hours don’t get too distracted after that.

Mad Max: Fury Road - Bought on sale. Only game I’ve finished in years. Go through the story and save completion tasks for the end though.

Cities: Skylines - mods for days. DLC is too pricey.

Subnautica - got for free, good time sink, eventually gets kind of frayed at the ends. Buy on deep discount.

Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden - promo gift. Fun enough but painfully linear.

Kingdom: New Lands - promo gift. Super simple mechanics, fun but maybe over simplified roguelite.

Games I got but haven’t gone anywhere. Not recommended.

Objects In Space - looks good, but just don’t. This game would play much better on a tablet/touchscreen.

UBOAT - I really like it but it’s still in the early early-access and doesn’t have much narrative to it now.

They Are Billions - fun but also too challenging. The SP campaign they added this year I liked, but it’s still overly challenging on the easiest mode and not a terribly dynamic campaign.

Battletech - kind of in a love/hate relationship with this xcom meets mechwarrior type game. It’s fun but after restarting the campaign again, I’m not any better and it isn’t pulling me back in.

I put about 200 hours into Witcher 3 and the expansions, played almost entirely over Steam Link with Steam Controller on our 1080p plasma display in the living room, wife and I played together for most of it, really fun experience. I played almost zero Gwent as I didn't enjoy it, we played for the story, side questions/random funny stuff/atmosphere. Combat was decent IMO especially once you get the hang of it.

Obduction is by the Myst and Riven team. Its got some rough edges but overall, it has an amazing sense of place. And I often find myself thinking about it.

Outer Wilds (not to be confused with Outer Worlds) also has some rough edges. But, it is also one of the best games in a while.
