Man they really messed up on 10 nm to be having to do this.....I also don't care if it's fast how many 14+++++++++++ we get to
 
Cool if it happens, by the have no goodwill left. They need to produce.
 
Sounds like they're backporting Ice Lake to 14nm. Things must be pretty desperate on 10nm to do that.

At least this will give us Gen 11 graphics on a non-mobile chip!.
 
Well good luck to them... it better have some serious IPC gains. It will be going up against Zen 3. Only upside for Intel is perhaps if they can fab enough of these fully functional at 14nm they might be able to make a nice profit on OEM stuff at least until 2022 when they have something to compete.
 
I wonder if they'll be re-spinning up some of the 14nm fabs they've started to convert over to 10nm because the 14nm shortages related to that only seem to be getting worse.

I wouldn't doubt it. The rumors of 10nm being abandoned seem to be pretty well backed up at this point. Frankly considering where 10nm performance was sitting... and how long it would take them to really fix it. They are better off turning the 10nm lines off completely and just stop talking about fabs for awhile outside of investor calls where they can talk about 5nm and whatever other 4 year out wackiness they like.

They are very likely there were reports of that in past.
They don't have capacity for 14nm at ther moment hence shortages. Mega fail.

That egg on Intel's face for giving AMD a hard time for going over 20% outsourcing. It's going to be at least 10% of their production (the chipsets they're already outsourcing, plus these new CPUs), if they want to meet OEM demand.

Update 12:49 AM GMT+5 11/30/2019. Intel has commented on the story and debunked the rumor from the Korean publication completely. Here is their statement in full:

"The letter from last week says we will increase our use of foundry so we can build more CPUs at Intel. The news reports about our use of third party foundries for CPUs are inaccurate."
 
Yeap the devil is in the details, they arent using samsung to build cpus at samsung but to free capacity from their own foundries so that they can produce more cpus on their own foundries while the lesser finicky chips can be done by samsung.

That PR statement is beautifully crafted btw. Come on, we gotta give the devil it's dues, anyone reading it too fast may think that they are fully denying the partnership.

If looking at Intel Desktop CPUs, it might look like Moores law came to a halt in 2014, when the first 14nm CPU was launched and now it looks like desktop will still be 14nm in 2021.

So maybe 8 years later in 2022 Intel will finally have a desktop CPU on a smaller process, if there are no more issues/delays.

8 Years on the same process node!!

But hey at least, if this rumor is true, it only took them 7 years to realize they were stuck and port a new core design to 14nm. :rolleyes:
 
There's a rumor Rocket Lake is coming out in the 3rd quarter of next year. Maybe it's a good thing I overspent my budget and decided to delay my purchase of a new mobo/CPU/RAM. Rocket Lake is also rumored to be getting Gen12 iGPU.

It's already been more than a year since the last Destkop i7/i9 parts(9700K,9900K), so I am very dubious Intels is going to release both Comet Lake and it's successor Rocket lake in less than 12 months.

Seems pretty clear to me. They said the reports were inaccurate, not false, and corrected them by saying what exactly was being outsourced (chipsets something else, not CPUs). Wccftech's interpretation as "debunked completely" and clickbait headlines notwithstanding.
 
It sucks that they chose cove instead of rivers. The first river named generation could aptly have been named "de-nile"

It's been done before with the 7th gen and then 8th gen. That Z270 chipset had a life of about 10 months.
