Cyberpunk 2077: Official Thread

It doesn't really seem like this thread of about CP2077 anymore anyway.

I'm really struggling to decipher what people are upset about. What I've read states you can choose a physical body that is either masculine or feminine, and then you get to choose a voice that is either masculine or feminine. Want to play a dude, pick both the masculine options. Girl, then pick both the feminine options. If someone else wants to play with a woman's body and a guy's voice, why the fuck does that matter what someone else does in their private, personal, offline game? Do ya'll really take issue just knowing that someone, somewhere, has a trans video game character in a game you play?

Or are we all just worried about a hypothetical lack of gender pronouns? I'm not sure that would be a very big issue regardless, dialog heavy games with character customization tend to avoid them anyways from a logistics standpoint. The more that CDPR is able to refer to the player by name or by neutral pronouns like you, them, they, etc. the less lines of dialog they have to record, which I'm sure is pretty attractive given the likely staggering number of lines that exist already. Gender neutral pronouns (in this instance) aren't part of some SJW movement. Pure and simple, more dialog means more time and more money.

More importantly, if something that insignificant can ruin what is likely to be an absolute mastercraft in RPG games, ya'll need to seriously evaluate the things that upset you. It's just a fucking pronoun, get over it and enjoy the game.

It looks like there will be male/female pronouns in the game anyway. I don’t they’re going to go back and spend 10s-100s of thousands of dollars re-recording every line of dialog that used pronouns before the change was made. Wouldn’t be surprised if some enemies used gender neutral terms simply for ease of recording, like you said, but it looks like major characters might refer to V by gender at times.

Given the source material I wonder if there will be a “sex change” option in the game itself. That was something in Cyberpunk 2020 so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see it here.

That sounds like the next topic for fake outrage. All the youtubers can then attack games that allow you to modify your sex/appearance at will, claiming that sex change is not a real thing therefore it must be removed from all games.
Then they will probably attack games that allow you to choose male/female avatars per round, claiming its bullshit and gender selection should not exist in a game.

I'm not sure what point you are making. what gender is pikachu?

Pikachu can be either male or female. If it is female it will have a V / heart shaped tail. I honestly didn't read the rest of your post so I'm not sure if this blows your point out of the water or not. I just skimmed over the past replies and was wondering what the hell Pikachus had to do with Cyberpunk.

I get the feeling that CDPR purposefully went conservative with what they showed in this year's Demo. Not sure if saving the best bits for their fans, trying to avoid potential "down grade" clamor, or what. Regardless, it sounds like what was shown behind closed doors was noticeably more impressive than what was put into the 15 min trailer. Hasn't dampened my excitement for the game in any way.

Find something nobody really cares about and pretend it is an issue. Get clicks. $PROFIT$
Wasn't that the other way around? Someone complained that having male / female options is not inclusive. So they changed the game because someone who is probably not even a gamer complained about it.

So for the sake of being inclusive they excluded male / female as a choice. Makes sense, NOT.

CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have a multiplayer component, but only once the studio has finished delivering all planned single-player content for the game...the Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account announced confirmation this morning...

They can do whatever they want for whatever reason they want. The questions to ask is if their implementation is in alignment with the core themes of the game. then you as a consumer can make a buying decision based on values and beliefs.

The exact same has applied to other games. Example, women did not play a major role in many wars. However women are a growing audience for many games.
Does this mean the pixel skins their avatars wear NEED to be locked to male images? For an otherwise vastly unrealistic made up depiction of war?

I just pointed out the obvious double standard in your statement.

Does it bother you at all that your two sentences are at odds with each other?

  1. In Cyberpunk transgender is good because it makes sense in the game world
  2. WWII games must have female characters because of inclusiveness even if it doesn't make sense in the game world

There is no "must". These are all businesses and they are making decisions as to what they feel will bring in the most revenue going forward.
In these cases they are making the games so that they can be representational of who their consumers are.
In many games there are different types of ethnic presets. White, black, asian etc. To be clear, it is not ethnic characters but slider settings.
Have there been outcrys about that?
Cyberpunk allows you to play as a male. I just don't understand what the bitching and moaning is about.

Looks like this game will not have 3rd person cutscenes (except a very few). Thoughts?

Personally I think first person is best for combat and third person is better for large dialogue sections. Deus Ex Human Revolution/Mankind Divided got it down perfectly. Make the gameplay the best it can be while also making the story aspects the best they can be.

Seems odd to see so little of yourself in third person if you can customize your character.

Probably explains why customization options are as limited as they seem to be during character creation. Its a weird choice, but as long as the cutscenes are done well it doesn't bother me.

I actually like that in an RPG (or story driven FPS for that matter). If the game play is all first person, I always found it jarring when you're suddenly looking at your character in a cut scene, and then jumping back into first person. Big sweeping cinematics at the end of chapters and whatnot sure, show my character interacting in third person, but all the general game play narratives should be in the same style that the rest of the game play is.

I'm taking a "wait and see how it plays" approach. Not too concerned about it tbh. I have had games that yanked my out of the experience via perspective changes, so I suppose I should be. It just seems like CDPR has a pretty clear vision for what they are trying to convey, and based on their track record I can give them the benefit of the doubt pretty easily.

the problem is chuds and incels demanding games be their safe space

not really. people just want to be able to play as themselves, whatever that means, in a game. not sure why other people have a problem with that.

You could say the same about the people who want the devs to cater to their whims of wanting to play as an Apache helicopter.

I personally am tired of all of it and would like to get back to discussing the graphics, mechanics, story, etc. of the game.

Now run along and learn some more leftist reddit buzzwords, and stop trolling with inflammatory posts designed to stir the pot.

My gut says the lack of texture detail, overall blurriness, low res cube mapping INSTEAD of clear RTX reflections, and no NPC shadows/+no self shadowing in the, closer to 14 then 15 min video we got from CDPR, is because what we all saw was a mix of One X/Ps4Pro/PS4 non Pro console footage mixed with a bit of PC Masterrace gameplay footage. It would explain the crappy, to so so to crappy mash-up of this years vid, versus the jaw dropper 48 minutes of Summer 2018 footage.

Dying to play it either way. I am hoping Digital Foundry are right about the 4k pristine ultra high detail in real time footage, they saw 55+ minutes of months ago, carrying through to launch for PC USERS. Sick to FKG Death of downgrades ,to satisfy the CONsole owners.Remember folks,Jon and Alex came right out in that video, and said they firmly believe its because of CONSOLES we got the Witcher 3 downgrade and MAY get one again here because of console lowest common denominator. Praying it doesn't happen again!! :( IF we get one,the RTX 2080TI,will be my last big upgrade,as what's the point if after all the hype , it gets hit with the ugly stiif anyway? Hope it dont.

Bunch of new info up at TweakTown.

New Cyberpunk 2077 details:
Dynamic weather won't actually affect gameplay--acid rain isn't in, and it won't hurt you
Players can destroy 75% of the environment around them
Cyberpunk 2077 may be a bit shorter than The Witcher 3, but has massive replayability
Not all loot will be useful for all characters (depends on build/spec)
Might have NewGame+
Not responding in timed dialog sequences can affect how situations play out
Cyberpunk 2077's sidequests branch out tremendously and impact other quests, including the main story
Choices could determine which areas of Night City (and its outer badlands) you can go
Players might be able to customize cars
V.'s apartment changes depending on your path/choices
V. can restore HP by eating food or consuming drugs, and cyberware can also heal you over time
May have more realistic car physics than GTA
Day-to-night cycle affects quests, NPCs, area availability
Police won't bust you for small crimes--only big ones like murder
Crafting is huge, you can make just about everything except clothes and cyberware
You can skip cutscenes and dialogs, but it's not like in other games
Lots of motion-captured sex scenes
Small cyberware can be installed without a ripperdoc, but extreme cyberware like Mantis blades require a doc
Augs include super-fast movement, real-time translation of foreign langauges, and increased strength Massive amount of NPC models and textures
Raytracing will be used for lighting as well as sound, creating a dynamic surround sound experience

I kept thinking this was coming out in February...was starting to get hyped...but it's only releasing in April...

Not all loot will be useful for all characters (depends on build/spec)
The article I saw was saying you would find non useful things that a normal person would carry to enhance the realism. Less loot pinata and more like a real human with a life.

Are there any pre-order specials running anywhere? I bought the Witcher 3 for 30% off 4 months before release via a Steam sale. Was hoping for something similar here.

Dynamic weather won't actually affect gameplay--acid rain isn't in, and it won't hurt you
Idk how to take that. If rain affects visibility it already affects gameplay doesn't it?
Players can destroy 75% of the environment around them
That arbitrary number is meaningless, but fine destructible environment is always welcome. It probably means you can't blow a hole in walls to get to your objective faster, which is a bummer, but I know fully destructible environment would be designer hell.
Cyberpunk 2077 may be a bit shorter than The Witcher 3, but has massive replayability
I don't want a game to be too long anyway. It usually detracts from the narrative (it being pushed to the background by the chores)
Not all loot will be useful for all characters (depends on build/spec)
There is nothing new there.
Might have NewGame+
Never cared for it, so don't care if it has or hasn't got it.
Not responding in timed dialog sequences can affect how situations play out
Fuck timed dialogue, that's the worst. I mean why do it? I'll just load a save game anyway and try again.
Cyberpunk 2077's sidequests branch out tremendously and impact other quests, including the main story
Good
Choices could determine which areas of Night City (and its outer badlands) you can go
Not good, areas being hostile is allright, but outright barring you from certain areas sucks.
Players might be able to customize cars
Hope it will have some impact on the game itself otherwise it is just a pointless gimmick ala Mafia II / GTA
V.'s apartment changes depending on your path/choices
I'd prefer customization here instead on the car, and not pre-determined choices made on my behalf
V. can restore HP by eating food or consuming drugs, and cyberware can also heal you over time
Wow, that's really new, oh wait it isn't, why is this even a highlighted feature? You can replenish health by consumables.
May have more realistic car physics than GTA
GTA has pretty realistic car physics for a tps, so I'll take this with a grain of salt. Not that it is a bad thing, but I know people's reaction to realistic car physics in non-sim games, and I don't think they dare go there where Mafia only threaded.
Day-to-night cycle affects quests, NPCs, area availability
Again, down with the area availability, I go where I want when I want or GTFO.
Police won't bust you for small crimes--only big ones like murder
Whatever, it depends on the behavior of the police.
Crafting is huge, you can make just about everything except clothes and cyberware
I don't know what that means, I hope you can buy everything also as I never was a fan of DIY.
You can skip cutscenes and dialogs, but it's not like in other games
Is that a threat?
Lots of motion-captured sex scenes
I'm sorry but that just weirds me out, each time a sex scene will be played in the game I'll think of mocap actors convoluting on soundstage 32.
Small cyberware can be installed without a ripperdoc, but extreme cyberware like Mantis blades require a doc
Can your bots do the installation?
Augs include super-fast movement, real-time translation of foreign langauges, and increased strength
So what if I don't have a translator? My main problem with Witcher 3 was that it expected the player to know things that the character should know by heart in his sleep, I hope this won't be the case here.
Massive amount of NPC models and textures
Define massive. In fact I'm a bit disappointed that it's not random generated tho.
Raytracing will be used for lighting as well as sound, creating a dynamic surround sound experience
Ray traced sound? I know marketing bullshit when I see it. I guess they mean reverb effects?

I really want to like this game, I just hope it has no DNA shared with the Witcher, apart from the graphics engine.

Ever had a wife?

I have a smoking hot one thank you. I still don't mind sex in my movies and games though. That's the point I was making. Sex in media doesn't just appeal to pasty basement virgins. It appeals to pretty much everyone if we're honest with ourselves. I'm good with a spot of it here and there in games, as long as it's well done, and suits the situation decently. I'm even ok with over the top things like DOA, (and so is my wife and her friends incidentally, (though to be honest, I can only get her to play if we've had a few cocktails :D ))

I would have called it "Wave Traced". ;) It's certainly possible to do this "sort" of thing with convolution modelling (so yeah, reverb for the most part I would say/guess). Still anything they can do to enhance the sound without making it sound off (unless off is the intent for a scene maybe :D ) I'm all for.

It...it was a joke.

Im pretty sure we'll see a glimpse of Ciri in it, which was eluded to in The Witcher 3.

I'm not sure I can process this information. You would prefer this game not take in anything from what is heralded by most as one of the greatest open world RPG's ever made? I mean, if the Witcher isn't for you, it isn't for you, but there is a colossal difference between a game not jiving with your interests and a game being bad. The Witcher may be the prior, but it sure as hell isn't the later.

Or like... you just don't want Cyber Geralt rolling up and telling you whats up? Cause I think we're safe from that.

To me the witcher is average at best, the gameplay is meh, and the story / characters weren't good enough to keep me interested in the game. Quite the opposite in fact, I was often repulsed by Geralt, and this is not because I want to be an edgelord and hate on "what's heralded as the greatest" I already hated Geralt in the Witcher2. There are other games with bad or unlikable characters like GTA IV-V, but GTA can offset it with the gameplay. Witcher had neither. Average (or worse for the witcher 2) gameplay and an unlikable unrelatable main character.

So when I say I want it to not share DNA with Witcher, I mean the clunky combat (which seems guaranteed given that this is an FPS). And the totally repulsive main guy (which I Hope since we don't get an established character now)
