Red Dead Redemption 2

Once it's good, but when you just trekked 10 miles and have to go back the exact same route to your camp it becomes a pointless timewaster. I hoped there would be something to do all over the game world, but there is nothing. No, hunting random animals that you then also have to carry back to the camp isn't an upgrade to just riding back empty, it's actually worse. Yeah, hunting was fun, up to about the 4th deer and 2nd rabbit. Then I'm no longer interested on wasting my time on it.

I wager if you could fast travel back to your main camp from anywhere in the world (outside of mission and combat) the game length would be halved.
Considering the game is about being an outlaw in the old west, which entails being chased by bounty hunters, dealing with rival gangs etc, it would make being an outlaw meaningless if you could just beam around the map at will. Every western movie with outlaws, or hell stories of actual outlaws in the old west, is about them living on the run from the law.

There's trains that allow you to fast travel, as well as stage coaches. Although stage coaches don't take on outlaws with a bounty so you'd had to do stuff like play the game to earn money to pay it off so you can use them.

Otherwise just go download a 100% save and use the menu system to replay the story missions. In the future you might want to avoid open world games because you seem to hate the openess of every one of them.

It'll come down fast for PC as well if folks can wait, just like GTAV did.

Rockstar is more interested in the sales via the online component than they are singleplayer sales. Unfortunately, this is why we don't get singleplayer DLC's anymore..

I'm torn on whether to get this...slow games are fine to a point but if the entire game is basically riding back and forth between missions then there better be a lot of interesting areas and things to do along the way...pretty graphics are great but there needs to be a good game built around that as well...

It's only riding back and forth to missions if you don't care/ignore all the other things the game offers, like hunting/fishing/crafting/etc.

I'm less than 50% of my way through the main story and i'm sitting at 60 hours because I spend so much time hunting/fishing/looking for dinosaur bones, etc.

hunting/fishing etc are what all other games call fetch quests or useless filler...why does RDR2 get a pass on it?

Because it's fun? I don't know man.

Some people like it, some people don't.

If you don't like it don't get it, it's pretty simple.

This game isn't much different from any prior Rockstar open world game. You have an open world with a number of missions that require you to travel around the map a lot, and you really won't enjoy the game if you don't like that fact.

Remember the mini-games from the GTA games? Not a whole lot different here. Although I much prefer the outdoors setting and hunting/fishing over the city enviroment and bowling from the GTA series.

I'm pretty sure they could literally halve your health and the game would still be easy as fuck, you are so fucking tanky at max health it's crazy. Plus dead-eye becomes absolutely insane.

At one point last night I was just straight up running into groups of like 4-5 enemies and tackling them one by one and executing them.

It's really funny how defensive everyone gets about this game, like I'm attacking them personally for daring to mention that fast travel would make it better.
Nobody is forcing you to use fast travel in any open world game, if your idea of fun is gallopping in the wilderness you can still do it if there is fast travel.
But if there is no fast travel, I'm forced to do sg, that I don't enjoy, you see the difference?
The point of fast travel in open world games is to skip the uninteresting bit so you can focus on the interesting bits. But these days devs are focused on padding game time instead of aiming for an ideal length. Cause bragging rights, and ofc to sell time savers (for those who are in the market for it).

It's also quite ironic when they tell you "then open world games are not for you" LOL. While you're at it could you recommend me a good whiskey? Since you already know my taste that well, you might as well...

It is so weird that I enjoyed Ghost Recon Wildlands, AC:Odyssey, Fallout4, Skyrim, Horizon Zero Dawn, Far Cry 5, GTAV, Driver San Francisco, L.A. Noire, Mercenaries 2, Fallout NV, Far Cry 3, Mass Effect Andromeda, Mad Max, when all along I was supposed to hate open world games.

I mean, if you enjoyed GTAV i'm surprised you aren't enjoying this. This game has more to do, and in many ways has less BS. You can actually save the game now like a normal person. In prior Rockstar games you had to always use the bed, period, which was super annoying because you'd have to travel just to save.

In terms of fast travel GTAV was marginally better because it had the Taxi's, but even the Taxi's took time and it wasn't fast travel like in Fallout 4 for instance.

The rest of the open world games you mentioned outside of GTAV all are the type of games that are faster to get into. You left out that there are other open world games that some folks greatly enjoy like the Yakuza series which for better or worse copied the Rockstar style as well. Meaning, to do simple things like even save the game you'd have to find a phone booth, and it wasn't until this latest Yakuza that you could even fast travel.

No one was getting defensive on here until our honesty was being questioned. The folks who enjoy this type of game understand that it's going to be too slow for other types of people, and there is nothing wrong with that. For some reason whenever we bring this up our honesty is brought into question. Just look at a few posts above this. You literally have people saying that they don't believe that people would like a slower game like this. Sorry, I like the game the way it is.

The game is too slow for you, we get it, and we understand.

Offering you a way to just play the story missions via the menu so you don't have to do all the riding around is getting defensive? o_O I explained to you in the first paragraph why instant fast travel from/to anywhere would make no sense in this game. There's already some forms of it with trains, stage coaches, and even camp upgrades. If they take away having to do anything outside your camp or in scripted story missions, all the draw backs of being an outlaw are completely avoided - that's half the game. But again, go get a 100% save and have at it via the menus if that's really what you want. I suspect you just want to continue to complain the game isn't what you wanted though.

I don't like battle royal games, so guess what, I don't play them. I don't expect them to change them so I do like them either, nor do I tell people that do enjoy how much I don't enjoy them, over and over. I play games that I do enjoy.

Meanwhile you're in threads like the CP2077 one saying the devs shouldn't make their next game anything like their previous award winning and highly regarded game. (y)

The same could be said about any of the games I listed that had fast travel. I don't want / need every aspect of being an outlaw, because riding a horse for hours on end is not fun. GTA gets away with it because driving a car is fun. Riding a horse is no more fun than walking, and if your game time is mostly made up of walking it doesn't make for a very fun and engaging game. And I never said fast travel everywhere. Just between your camp and major settlements would be enough to get rid of 90% of the boring stuff. Ambushes can still happen when you ride to a mission if that's what you want. Although I don't understand what is fun about being jumped by 12 people and getting shot to hell in 10 seconds and respawning somewhere you never been before. Maybe dying in the game is fast travel?

Downloading a 100% save is not a viable option, if I have to cheat to enjoy a game it doesn't make it a good game. And I never said the game is bad, I said fast travel would make it much better. That doesn't mean I don't like it at all, but since you're being defensive any criticism makes you angry it seems.

I just listed two dozen open world games I liked, but sure go ahead pretending like that never happened.

Now that's a game I actually disliked, all three of them, why wouldn't I say that a completely different type of game (FPS) with a completely different genre (Cyberpunk) should be completely different to a fantasy RPG? Unless you have a personal beef with me for disliking a game you like. Which seems to be the pattern here. And again I don't hate RDR2, I hate the lack of fast travel, that often results in me getting bored after doing 1 mission and I quit the game rather than doing the long trek back to camp.

Play the game and buy the camp upgrade then, you can fast travel from your camp to major settlements.

Patch yesterday resulted in my GTX 970 reporting the correct amount of VRAM in the Vulkam API. w00t

The story mode is a story and as such is designed to be enjoyed in a certain manner. There are a lot of ways to make traversing the map more exciting in story mode, but yes it will probably get repetitive if you put dozens and dozens of hours in to it. Online mode offers you an open map with unlocked fast travel, and probably less random events, but also the compelling encounters you will have with other players. These usually infrequent encounters add a lot more weight to the more mundane tasks. Still so far about 3/4 encounters are neutral.

St. Denis is impressive. I continue to be overall very happy with this game and it's a vastly better experience than I had on the PS4 when it first came out.

There are lots of tips out there to reduce the "down time" of travel ranging from using cinematic camera to making camp upgrades for fast travel a priority plus the stagecoaches (not expensive.)

I upgraded for fast travel but I don't know how to use it............................. lol

St. Denis was the high point of the game for me. Earlier sections felt tedious and later sections (with Arthur) felt like needless padding. I really liked the entire section set in Louisiana, though.

For what little I've played of RDRO, I've enjoyed it. Eventually I'll play SP as well & hopefully get a good amount of enjoyment.

As someone who's played both to completion, I'd say the difference between GTAV and RDR2 is that some of the unlock items in RDR2 are gated behind grinding with the hunting and fishing and whatnot. GTAV pretty much all of the minigames were completely optional.

The only hunting I ever did in RDR2 was the legendary animals because you actually got rewarded for just the one kill, and there was no bullshit pelt quality stuff to worry about.

And, as a very minor spoiler, REALLY far into the story you can eventually just buy all of the stuff that you would normally need pelts for in RDR2. I wish I would have known that from the outset, because doing it manually does NOT seem worth the effort.

Been Playing for the last few weeks and really enjoying the game. Taking my time. I'm a graphics whore so everything is ultra minus tree tessellation and 4k in HDR. FPS hover around low to mid 40's on my rig which is fine. Kinda up in the air on HDR though. i've been funning in HDr game and have the peak brightness at 1100 and paper white at 100. Still seems a little dark and washed out in certain areas though. If I disable HDR and output SDR with high contrast and AMP on my Samsung JS 9000, the game looks freaking amazing, because I like that saturated POP. But..... I do miss that HDR effect on sky, moon, shadows, etc..... What do u guys with HDR monitors doing???

For me the last patch resulted in the game crashing on vulkan immediately before loading the game world, had to switch to dx12 and it seems considerably slower.

This can be the problem with lower output HDR displays.
Without tone mapping to suit the display you have and the media being played, there will be elements that are not mapped well enough.
This is why Dolby Vision and HDR10+ were developed, but they need to be implemented on both the display and the media being played.
Also consider the age of the TV, the lighting wont be as bright after a lot of use.
Its possible they will tweak the game to help issues like this.

I bought a display specced to 2000Nits to be sure HDR would look great in more situs and be a bit more striking.

This game isn’t real HDR. It just supports the brightness, but doesn’t have HDR colors. It’s best played with HDR off if you want the SDR enhancements your panel can induce.

Unfortunately Mchart is correct. You can try again by setting the HDR Game settings correctly for your TV. Peak HDR brightness on the JS9000 is only around 600 despite Samsung's claim of "over 1000," so set it around that point. At the same time the floor for "paper white" is around 120. Try those settings and see if it improves the image any. It should cause colors to at least look less washed out. Still, it's going to be worse on an edge-lit display like the JS9000 than it will be on a FALD or OLED.

The intro for the game was pretty long I was like when can I save my game? This game has soul not sure how much the Dev. team got out of it but it's actually a Human game.

This game is about real people and real things happening to them is where I get the Human aspect from.

That’s a bummer. Of course check the drivers for your gpu... there was an Nvidia hotfix a week or two agao. Some of the solutions in this thread involved things like loading the benchmark first, then the story mode... that might be worth a shot. Hope you get it working.

Preload for Steam is live. Supposed to be playable at 1200 EST tomorrow afternoon.

I'm putting this game on a SSD again HDD loads way too slow. So I'm splitting up my Epic directories this just loads like ass on a HDD.
