Video Highlights:

The design seems like a big middle finger to tall people sitting in the back. Maybe it's taller than it appears though. I'm sure it's a technological marvel nonetheless, but competition is ramping up. Just before the Tesla event, Chevrolet announced they were bringing their own electric pickup truck to market by 2022. Lordstown Motors announced one due by Q4 2020, but considering they don't even have a prototype yet, that seems highly unlikely. The Rivian R1T still seems the most promising to me, but Tesla still has the huge advantage of their Supercharger network which still remains unrivaled.

It's... interesting. Not sure how that rolling trunk cover will do with dirt/debris.

It's a massive truck and the slope is not that big, so I don't think it will be a problem.

Ugly. 500 mile range obviously limits road trips (my most common trip is just over 500 miles one way), and I'm sure towing will eat into range, and that's the range of the most expensive model. Steel shell instead of frame and body is interesting, but I have to wonder about performance in a crash and reparability.

Single motor RWD. $40K with "250+" mile range
Dual motor AWD $50K 300+ miles
Triple motor AWD $70K 500+ miles

I'd drive one to work, but I'm cheap and I buy my vehicles used.

Like I said in the thread in the car forum, put an aftermarket bumper / winch / brush guard on the front, some mudflaps, a roll bar with headache lights and a whip antennae, and maybe some running boards, and it'll be truck.

P.S. One of the navies (British?) have already been farting around with a chopped up Model X for carrier duty. This would be more like it.

I'm trying to imagine what the interior would look like and that low windshield just makes no sense. You'd hit your head every time you brake a bit harder, and if you sit lower you won't see anything.

I bet it's a massive success. It's ugly, but it ugly in a crazy badass way, and that will appeal to a lot of people.

This. In the same way that people get the dumbest tattoos, ya know, just because. I'm going to enjoy teaching my kid to throw grains of sand at the windows...

I've always wanted a warthog.

But with a roof.

My favorite feature is no paint.

I'd be all over this if we didn't get winter here.

I guess i'm confused why this doesn't have a more functional truck bed. I don't really care about the styling. Work trucks look like shit anyways, it shouldn't matter. But this thing is lacking on function.

I'm tellin' ya, most of these are only going to see grocery bags and sports equipment back there. Crew cab trucks and Jeeps are the today version of fully loaded minivans.

If I were giving out points for ugly, this would get 10/10.

Of course the tech specs are as expected ... amazing ... but damn ... I was waiting for the April's Fools announcement that never came when I saw the news.

How is the bed not functional?

6.5 foot bed seems plenty functional to me. Most crew cab beds are 5.5 feet. Unless you're talking about something like the Rambox, but this truck would have plenty of spaces to put things other than the bed. Or did you want the ability to add a camper shell or something like that?

Winter because of corrosion?

Unpainted Stainless steel is likely more corrosion resistant than typical painted thin sheet steel on other cars/trucks.

Winter because of battery performance. I'm a one car at a time guy and need do commute in February and March.

I wasn't being sarcastic about the lack of paint. I love it.

I am a sucker for minimalism. I'd buy this. I think I will buy this. Didn't quite want to spend $100k for the performance Model X, but this thing looks like "Rolling IDGAF".

Here's a question maybe one of the [H] engineers can pontificate on ... Musk said that current trucks aren't efficient because they were basically panels bolted onto a structural frame (body on frame) vs his design, where the structure is carried on the outside skin. The thing is, if the exterior is structural, wouldn't it be more vulnerable to damage? Sure it works on airplanes (which Musk referenced) that basically will never have a fender bender, but on daily driven trucks?

I don't mean dings and scratches - since it's stainless steel but if the important exterior structural bits get warped from collisions or go out of alignment - I'd imagine that would effect the structural integrity of the whole thing <- which equals $$$$ repair costs.

One of the few negative things I see car channels talk about regarding Tesla cars is their repair costs from accidents ... and this looks like it won't be any different in that regard from previous Tesla models.

I was thinking the same thing then realized that 90% of trucks sold never carry a thing in the bed... Edit: Oh it does have a bed, 6.5 ft. I need to see one in person, get in. Looks fun.

I love how crazy it looks. All I need is for it to come with a Mr. Fusion and I'm sold.

Eh not like people are going to buy this for work anyways. Trucks are the new luxury SUV for many, it seems.

Come to the flyover states for a week :)

But nobody out here is buying that thing, what in the **** were they thinking.

How big is your commute? The smallest battery has 250 mile range, the largest 500 mile range. Cold saps range, but probably not as much as you think, especially if can precondition before leaving.

I don't know think it will be. Who is the market for this? No one is going to buy this for a work truck. It think it is way to ugly for the typical Tesla owner. IDK wtf they were thinking with this.

Trust me, i'm fairly anti-truck when it comes to modern trucks. They've become way to complicated because people just buy them as luxury barges versus work trucks. Blows my mind that someone would buy a giant luxury truck over something like a Charger, etc.
