CPU pins damaged, PCI-e slot not working

Is it possible to damage CPU pins on the motherboard so that only PCI-e 1 doesn't work? (PCI-e 2 works fine)

I swapped CPU on my motherboard and my GPU doesn't show a picture in PCI-e 1, it works fine in PCI-e 2. Also, motherboards hdmi works fine.

So I RMA'd my motherboard. I got reply that they have declined because CPU pins are damaged. But there was nothing wrong with the motherboard aside from PCI-e 1 not working.

Is it possible that I damaged CPU pins that only one PCI-e slot doesn't work?

It wasn't Asus though I sent the motherboard to, but some 3rd party. Asus told me they don't have nordic (I live in Sweden) repair center. I had to contact the retailer and they told me who to send to.

I even got some pictures from them.

It's not like me, I'm pretty careful that the CPU fits perfectly before I close the bracket.
 
^^ yup and not in a way that a bad cpu seating would cause. that one is bent over itself.
op, you'll have to try and fight it or throw in the towel and get a new board. depends on how much agro you want to go through.

As in, they or someone underneath them, intentionally does that? Or some sort of unkosher things going on at Asus? Not picking a fight, genuinely curious.

like people take pics with no bent pins and send it in, asus denies rma due to bent pins, user gets it back and it now magically has bent pins. so yes, shaddy af actions at the rma centre.

Woah. Crazy. Glad I switched out my Asus X570 for a MSI X570 (Amazon return policy FTW). I'm sure no company is 100% innocent, but that... that raises my eyebrows.

Have you heard of other mobo makers pulling this? Or is it just with Asus?
 
Funny that the repair center spent all that time taking super high res photos of the pins when they could have just as easily bent them back.

That's harder than it seems with these LGA pins. The straight pins are far easier.
 
I'm still in 30 day period for returning my Asus X570 to Amazon - and will def be doing so. That's some shady stuff right there. Got my MSI Unify in.

Still curious what could've caused this. I didn't poke around the pins or dropped something aciddentally on it.
Only 1 (or someone said 2) pins are bent. That looks really fishy for something so tiny. I would have to poke those pins specifically to bend them and not the others and I did not do that.

I received the motherboard today and took some photos myself. These bends look very weird. Not like someone dropped something on them. They are bent backward and one of them looks impossibly bent. How the heck did it get bent like that?

What could bend the pin like that with breaking it?

Yeah, it's fishy as fuck.
I have not tested the motherboard if it works. I don't dare put my 9900k in there :)

I have 8100 lying somewhere, I'll look it up and test and see if the motherboard works.
I did not bend these pins and I sent them a working motherboard (apart from first PCI-e slot not working).

Also I found a third pin bent a bit. Not much but to me it looks like someone started to bend it but decided to go for another one since this one was in the middle of them pins, which makes it much harder to bend easily like in the picture above (which are on the side of the socket).
 
The two pins you’re showing are PROC_PRDY# (debugging ) and VSS (grounding) Neither of those by themselves will cause the PCIe slot to not work, But the VSS pin looks like it could short the PEG_RXN[0] or PEG_RXP[1] signals, either of which would kill the first PCIe slot.

clip the pins and everything should work again.

The only thing I can think of that could bend pins like that is if there were a few strands of fine thread/silk/polyester fiber that got caught on the pins and someone pulled on the fibers to remove them from the socket. If the fibers were wrapped around a couple of other pins next to these or went underneath these pins, then depending on the pull direction you could get a reverse bend like that.
But no, dropping a CPU cannot reverse bend a pin like that and certainly not leave the ones around it untouched. That's why I think it was silk or polyester fibers.

Are you saying that AMD doesn't have sockets full of pins? Is this true for Ryzen? I'm planning to get a Ryzen for my next system upgrade. Does the Ryzen CPU have all the pins?

The motherboard is currently gathering dust.
I tried to boot with it and it's working but I have not tried the GPU in it. I'm not going to because I have no use for it. But I have started a case with consumer rights or whatever it's called here in Sweden. Might take 6 months for them to solve it.

Pics are faster,and more importantly for a corporation like Asus, much cheaper in the long run from their perspective, then providing product replacement and $hipping costs.Most users aren't on forums tallying how often Asus fkd its user base.I've also had issues with Asus motherboards and a Rma. I was looking for something else and this came up in search.Hopefully all on the forum are having a great holiday break.

That's true for Ryzen, however there's two other cpu stacks that use LGA like the pics above, Threadripepr and Epyc. And on those two, the density of those pins is freaking insane! It's so dense AMD came up with an almost foolproof mounting assembly, almost...
