Cheapest x570 boards — any real concerns?

Originally I had read the same quality VRMs were used top to bottom on the x570 boards. Is that still the case?

Any legit reason to spend more than $130-$140 for a cheap X570 board? Besides bells and whistles most won’t need?

I’m tempted by those $130 Ryzen 2700x. Likely upgrade to a 3950x or something in a few years when they drop in price.

The biggest concern you may end up with isn't the quality of vrm but rather the capacity and more importantly the quality of the cooling. A lot of the x570 boards are designed to handle the power needs of a 3900X, but they don't handle the thermal needs of those VRMs on the lower end.

Not sure I understand. If the VRMs are still the same power delivery and overclocking capability should be identical. The difference then being the bells and whistles like more USB headers, fan headers, wifi, 10GB ethernet, LED lighting, thunderbolt integration, esata, raid options, better sound card, dual bios, etc. and most of that is superfluous to me if the VRMs are the same.!?

I was just watching a vid today on LTT that the 3950x used less power and created less heat than the 3900x because of binning and less voltage draw standard on the 3950x CPU over the 3900x

VRMs are not all the same.

But seeing you can run a stock non overclocked 16 core 3950x in the 100 amp column, this means most any 570x should suffice for most folk, even attempting an overclock.

But, since overclocking the CPU hasn't proved as valuable with recent Ryzen processors - it probably does come down to the Motherboard bells and whistles and price, vs any significant VRM concerns — even to the cheapest x570 boards.

I definitely think that the X570 boards are more consistent than the previous two generations across the board. I know some of the leaked 3950x benchmarks were done on a $125 Asus X570-P board.

Personally, I've found a nice balance in the $200-250 range. You get better onboard sound, an Intel NIC, a USB C header, and somewhat better cooling for the VRM. Currently on the X570-Pro which I downgraded to from the CH8. The CH8 was complete overkill as I wasn't using the 2.5G LAN or the AX Wifi. In fact, when I switched out boards, it didn't even make me re-activate Windows .

Personally, the Gigabyte Aurous Elite newegg black friday sale price of $149 pretty much negates any feature differences from board to board at this point. I got an Asus Crosshair VIII Wifi because I wanted to go big or go home (and because my wife told me to). All things considered, if I knew that the Aurous Elite would be $149 in a couple more weeks, I would have waited.

Frustrating that they left USB C out of the Gigabyte x570 Aorus Elite Wifi. I has basically anything else I was interested in. In the less than $200 sector I haven't found any motherboard with it all.

That's not very accurate. I have an Asus Prime X570-Pro and it has USB C both on the rear panel and via onboard header. Plus, I just got it for $190 on Amazon the other day.

If you're really interested in that Aorus Elite, check the actual pictures.

I made that little xls comparison. Looks like I messed up on that pro board not having USB C — thanks for pointing that out. I used current pricing/live deals. I don't see it for $190 now.

Im not glued to any particular board - just deal shopping/kicking the tires.

Ah... No worries. I thought you might have copied and pasted from somewhere else. also the ASUS TUF WiFi has a realtek GbE not Intel.

I was in a similar boat as you looking around and settled on the X570 Pro when it was on sale. I'm sure it will hit that again near Black Friday. I'm only missing Wi-Fi and I don't use it anyway in my case.

Check this huge ass sheet and filter down based on what you want
