Hey all,

So I fat fingered a Coffee Lake CPU install today. I was pulling off the plastic cover the motherboard came with, but it was stuck, and when I finally got it off, I slipped and stuck a finger in the socket for the first time since Intel put the pins in the socket.

Much cursing ensued after which I pulled out some lighting, a helping hands magnifying glass and a sewing needle.

Once I straightened the pins as much as I through possible, I tested it, and it seems to be running perfectly, but just as a sanity check I'd like to look up what the pins I hit actually do, so maybe I can do some challenge testing to that aspect of the motherboard.

Any thoughts on some source for this info? I found this article, but their images are too low res to actually read, and the orientation is unclear. (Is pin 1-A in the same corner as the golden triangle?)

Any info anyone might have, would be greatly appreciated!

Intel documentation is public on their website. One moment.

EDIT: apparently, only for mobile o.0 (mobile package ballout is given in processor spec sheets. Maybe I have to look elsewhere for desktop sockets?).

EDIT2: my best guess, DDI

Which is display out, afaik.

I hope you are right, because I have been using the display out and it works perfectly.

Best I can tell it's in the light green area in the top of this higher resolution (but still not high enough) image.

The brown ones seem to say VDDQ or VDOQ, but the breen ones are completely illegible to me.

Thank you. That is excellent. It does look like that is the case.

RAM appears to be working normally, but I may give it a few memtest runs just to make sure.

Thanks for that info.

He's looking at the wrong side. It's the same for 8th/9th gen I just looked. You're on the PCI BCLK/DMI side. If you can provide a pic or two of your repair I can probably tell you if it's good or not. I do this as a hobby. Also another quick tip is to leave the plastic cover on, place the CPU in the socket, then close it and when you clamp the plastic cover will pop out.
