Diablo IV Announced

I can't wait. It looks really really good. I hope they don't change the look of it before launch like they did with Diablo 3. In any case, I am excited. I'm glad they are finally taking it back to the dark gothic themes of the first one. Diablo 3 will be nothing more than a bad memory.

Blizzard's really upped their CGI game - thought I was watching a live action trailer for a bit there.

Digging the Hellraiser/Berserk-vibe of the violence, I skipped Diablo3 but feel I should probably play through it to at least get caught up with the storyline.

My suggestion is to real the cliff notes. It will piss you off less (hopefully).

Can't wait!! Still play D3 and D2:LoD. Some of the assets did look very D3, though.
Now, probably gotta wait another four years, but that would put development of D4 to almost 10 years.

The storyline was a poorly written piece of trash with many bad plot devices. Spare yourself the pain.

I felt the story was pretty good.

It would have been good if Deckard Cain would have been Belial. That would have been epic! But no, instead, he's killed off by a no name mini boss with butterfly wings. Don't kid yourself, Diablo 3 was a garbage fire. Although I did find the notes about Inarious and Lilith in the expansion to be good.

I agree with that, but the main story was advanced quite nicely.

Looking forward to D4, to see how they improve from D3.

I just hope they don't ruin this with loot box cancer.

I haven't been able to finish it. The writing, dialog, and characters of Diablo 3 are vapid, ultra-cheesy and crap cliches and tropes that are taken out of immature cartoons for toddlers, to the point that it's extremely cringey. There's nothing of value or originality in any of it. And the voice-acting is totally pretentious fairy-fart cheese. I think Diablo 3 is one of the few things I wish I could unexperience.

I hope Blizzard completely retcon Diablo 3 out of Diablo 4's story. That would be the respectful-of-Diablo and respectful-of-Diablo-fans thing to do, and doing that would elevate the Diablo brand and would enable Diablo 4 to be a much better game. Jay Wilson's Diablo is simply not Diablo, and it also isn't good or quality by any measurement.

I won't lie to you and say that the storyline of D1 or D2 was amazing. It wasn't. However, it wasn't terrible. Yes the soulstones were a plot device but not a terrible one. It was fairly believable. That and if you were to read the game manuals (especially D1) there was a lot of background story.

Then comes D3... forget smashing the worldstone at the end of Lord of destruction, doesn't seem to matter much if at all. Toss in the dark soulstones. Obviously a terrible plot device when they realized that taking the previous games into account there was no way to make the story they wanted to work at all. These also come out of nowhere with little explanation. Doesn't fit with the previous games one bit. And of course killing Cain off for no good reason.

The storyline of D3 was a dumpster fire. I won't hold it against you for enjoying it. We all have our guilty pleasures - for example I loved the story of homeworld 2. But let's at least recognize it for the turd it is.

I was one of the suckers that pre-ordered D3 thinking it would be good. Biggest gaming disappointment of my life. I have not purchased a single blizzard game since.

I pre-ordered D3 as well. I played through the first difficulty, and started through the next one, and hated it. It wasn't LoD by even a tiny bit.
I returned a couple years later when they added rifts and the other stuff, and found that I really enjoyed that, so I still play Seasons for all that.
The game felt rushed and incomplete, no doubts. They've fixed a lot of those issues over the years, and I think it's at a pretty good spot. Now, of course they can't fix the bad issues like the dark soulstone and ignoring the worldstone destruction, but overall, it's in a good place for the loot grind

I dont always follow the D3 haters. Game was as enjoyable to me as 1 & 2 was.

Story? LOL! it's an endless dungeon crawler with ZERO tactics. Fun as hell and super casual.

Some characters are fun and the lore can be entertaining, but really it's about killing millions of mobs and getting tons of loot. Solo or with friends.

I suspect the people stuck in D2 will never be happy with any other D type game, they pretty much set themselves up for disappointment.

Yeah I've read that they made a lot of changes and improvements over the years. I'm sure it's well worth giving it a go. I just can't bring myself to try it again. So I do admit that I'm basing my opinion on the original release and I have not played the expansion. This is very biased, but at the same time it just pissed me off to the point that I want nothing to do with that game ever again.

I had other gripes such as the overly simplified level and skill 'tree' but I won't get into that. I don't think there's any need, we all know they dumbed it down.

I hope this installment gives me the unique immersion feeling that 1 and 2 provided.

I was not convinced by the gameplay trailer, but watching streamers play through the demo was much more optimistic. With this being 'not even Blizzard soon' - I'm thinking we're at least 4 years out, but to be safe, I'd say no earlier than 2024 lol.

MrLlama (D2 speedrunner) will be streaming today at 1230PM EDT, for whoever wants to check it out.

There was a time when the only issue I had with Chinese influence on my games was obnoxious loot boxes and grind sinks to "sell" them. The D3 Shit show makes it a bit easier to do the right thing. Fuck blizzard.

As I posted on tpu, this is all jedi mind shit to direct attention away from you know what.

They have been investing time into D3 as of late. The seasons have been good. They are reworking if armor sets. I believe we will see 2 new sets this next season. Haven’t been paying to much attention to patch notes...

still play D3 and will play d4,5, 6 and maybe 7 (depending on my life expectancy).

people can complain about bad story lines and bad game play, but there has never been a perfect game to everyone. Diablo provides enjoyment for many of us. So will play the crap of D4.

Storyline? in a top down action rpg? is that even a thing?
Meaning what, they cooked up that whole trailer, a playable demo, all just in the short time since that controversy, and weren't already planning on announcing the game exactly the same way?

Here’s hoping Blizz takes better care of D4’s than D3.... Blizz could have released a new minor expansion for D3 every 8 Months and people would have bought that shit like mad. But no they let it completely stagnate and die.

you haven’t been paying attention lately have you?

how many other companies put time into a 7 year old game? Stagnate and dead? Only to people who can’t play, hate Blizzard for not being on their person timeline, or not making easier than it already is.

you might actually want to look into it again.

I'm afraid to get excited for games now. Out of fear of microtransactions and live service nonsense.

I'm just hoping that Diablo IV is First Person instead of Top Down RTS

Looks really cool to me. I'll definitely buy it (and very likely enjoy it) just like the other three.
