Intel Core i9-9900KS Review: The Fastest Gaming CPU Bar None

Not faster than my 8600K at 5.3Ghz! ;)

6c/6t 9Mb Cache at 5.3gh vs 8c/16t 16Mb cache at 5ghz in a best case scenario purely gaming with everything else closed and little to no other background process running may be true..but on real World gaming scenario on most recent games im pretty sure those extra 12 threads on the 9900ks at 5ghz will be much better than your 8600k at 5.3ghz.

My 9900K runs at 5.2Ghz 24/7 ... Only way I would buy it is if it could do 5.5Ghz without any hiccups :-/ ( Gaming )

Dream CPU. Other than that, this is all I've got to say:

Well, I guess if you're "pretty sure," that is good enough for me. ;) Suck it. If I am taking the time to OC to 5.3GHz don't you think I am smart enough to kill off a bunch of Hz sucking programs while I am gaming? I will put my 8600K up against that 9900KS any day.

oh, ok. I'll go back to my eight year old 4.5GHz 6c/12th 3930k now.
I mean, if it's working for you great, but there's a pretty sizable uptick in performance per clock after all of this time, plus all of the new platform features you're missing out on.

It's working and I tune my stuff, thread my (old) games so I'm good. We will see how the new Doom works out soon, but don't see upgrade happening. It can handle a 5700(XT) if I need it to. Hardware and microcode Spectre and Meltdown patching would be nice though. Glorious Asus, Thanks for Nothing. I can use a random community patched bios but no thank you.

Platform Features? DO Tell. M.2 is all I can think of. Not a big deal

My local MC had the 3900X going for $449 +$30 off any mobo. Ain't no way im paying $500 for this thing for a few extra frames. Not to mention RandomX performance or productivity. :D

Yeah, productivity AMD makes absolute sense.

Its already software patched, not into downloading 3rd party Russian Tools to work on my bios - thanks anyways. I've programmed EEPROMs, so the process doesn't phase me. Its the tool sources.

hah,

what you got against the Russians? they're not that bad, man

I've heard Steve Gibson called a lot of things over there years, but this is a new one on me.
I’ve used Gibson research scanner for a damn long time. However the meltdown checker tool screenshot has no relevance to the bios patching tools I am referring to.

Nice, you bit the hook.. can we expect now a 8600k vs 9900ks overclocked review? ;)

Fine. Let me re-phrase-
I’m not patching my bios with anything in an erek thread.

UBU is just a script that uses the same modding tools motherboard companies like ASUS use. The microcode is produced by Intel, ever heard of a hash? You can use the tools to pull the microcode/oproms from other motherboards. UBU has been around quite a while now, I'm sure if it was doing anything malicious it would have come out by now. Lots of people have used it to update bios/uefi components that motherboard manufactures abandoned years ago.

Apology's for the thread hijack.

Your post was right after one showing a screen shot of a GRC application. I saw an opportunity for a joke and took it.

There are certain things I will hack. The bios on my motherboard is not one of them. It just my thing. I want an official release from Asus. I appreciate the tip, but don’t shove it down my throat. To me, the risks outweigh the gain. pcie 4.0 would have to be there.

NVME and M.2 support is something I care about, and PCI-E 3.0 if you have a fast enough graphics card to take advantage of it.

already have pcie3 and (nvme) m.2 vs sata3 ssd isnt enough to matter that much.

I'm curious if anyone has actually tested if the hardware mitigations work. Intel's track record doesn't make it hard to believe that they'd just set a firmware flag with some half-ass mitigation to get around the perf hits of real mitigation.
