Red Dead Redemption 2 Coming to PC November 5th

To the people who have played this already, is rd2 plagued with cutscenes every other minute? Something I couldn't stand with mp3 to the point I had to quit playing quite early on, (and the fact it felt like garbage). I'm thinking this one is going to be similar, but I hope not because I'd like to give it a try. Lots of good info in here already, thanks.

There are some pretty long ones, yes. I don't know if it's "every other minute" but there are a whole lot of "ride a horse a long way while listening to an NPC talk" sections, so ostensibly a cutscene. And by a lot I mean, I felt like 30-50% of the gameplay time was spent riding a horse to and from places.

I wonder if people who never played RDR1 will appreciate Part 2 more...maybe it's a case of too high expectations

Heh. This is like pointing out that in Fallout 4 you spend a lot of time walking. It's a sandbox Western, designed to reward stopping to smell the roses with random world events, and generally just taking it all in. People that are impatient can of course fast travel.

Some of the most hilarious stuff happens on those rides from A to B.

I would agree with you, except the fast travel in this game SUCKS. You can only travel to a very small list of locations and only one-way, so you inevitably have to ride a horse back to camp regardless.

It's okay the first few times, then it's mostly repeat "ambient events" that get old after awhile.

I dunno, I can't speak for everyone but I was fucking sick of riding a horse by the end of this game.

do you have to ride a horse in the game?...can I walk from place to place?

I mean, you can, if you want it to take 6 years to get between locations. Most towns are pretty far apart from each other. There are other travel options, one-way fast travel from the camp becomes available at some point, and you can also take the train or take a carriage, but I believe most of those are in real-time (I can't remember if you can skip the trip or not).

Realistically, you want to try to get a fast horse as early as possible, otherwise you'll be spending even more time riding. I had one of the fastest horses in the game as soon as I could get it, and I still felt like I spent too much time on a horse.

sounds like they're really pushing the realism aspect...Wild West simulation...as long as there are side missions or activities to do while riding from town to town it shouldn't be too bad

Yes, it's realism for the sake of realism, at the expense of gameplay flow a lot of the time.

Sometimes you will find random events on the road, and very rarely they can lead to side quests, but most of the time it's something like an ambush, or some guys riding by with someone tied up on the back of a horse that you can rescue or not...that sort of thing.

The game was great. People say it is boring and monotonous, it is the least boring AAA game I have played in a while, and unlike other AAA games (which I can only play for a couple of hours and then never play again) I actually finished the story.
The detail in this game immerses you in world, probably why I did not just play for an hour or two and decide my time was better spent on something else.

Does it have replay-ability, probably not but it will be hours of entertainment the first time around.

Yeah, you are right, the story and immersion are great. I would definitely say there is a lot of tedium, but I don't think I'd necessary call it boring. Just sometimes you are stuck riding between locations with not much happening, and a lot of the "realism" gameplay can feel tedious.

I wonder if you can transfer saves between PC and consoles with your Rockstar account or whatever? If I could continue my PS4 game on PC and visa versa, I might pick this up again for PC then. I've already beat it, but kind of wanted to go finish all the side quests and collecting stuff too at some point.

Considering they are adding stuff to the PC version that the console versions don't have I doubt this will be possible.

I'm betting they'll eventually port all of that to the console version, but even if they don't, they could still at least let us transfer from console to PC. It's little more than an XML file that tells the game all the stats/items/progress you have in the game. If the content you have on PC isn't on the console, all they have to do is tell you it won't be available when you try to load it up on the console too.

Would this load incredibly slow on a WD Black HDD? Bought new, retail this year. Though I can afford the 150GB on an SSD. Still insane.

Good question-I'm in the same boat-I finished it on the Xbox1X when it first came out.

This had to be the longest game I've ever played-I got it when it first came out and put in a few hours every day-maybe longer on the weekend if I didn't have anything to do and it still took me almost a month to finish it. I was so burnt out on it that I really didn't get into the online parts of it. Plus didn't want to tie the TV up on the wife.

I preordred the PC version mostly just to play online.

Considering the consoles play it fine on their standard 5400 RPM HDD, I think it'll be fine. It shouldn't matter much aside from the initial game load or fast traveling, as the rest of the game is streamed into RAM. So maybe if you only have 8GB of RAM (which I'm guessing it's the minimum requirement anyways) or less, I wouldn't see the HDD being much of an issue.

I totally forgot that game ever existed, and even now that you reminded me I can barely recall anything about it.

I believe it's the first FPS with a Sniper Zoom. Beating out Goldeneye 007 by five months.
